During the winter holidays I decided to give Class Pass a try and found myself checking out Soul Cycle Clarendon as one of my first classes. Hands down it was one of my favorite studios in the area and I had a BLAST! I have done cycling classes in the past, so I was fairly certain what to expect when I arrived. Although I came a bit early to try and get set up, that wasn't necessary since the classes on Sunday run back to back and the lobby can be pretty chaotic. Outside of checking in and grabbing my shoe rental, there was no way to access the studio early. About 5 minutes before classes started they opened the studio to everyone and had ambassadors everywhere to help people find and set up their bikes. I was clipped in and ready to ride in less than a minute. Class itself was SO FUN!! I fully understand the hype now. The energy, the music, the choreography is all A+. Shoutout to Sasha for delivering an amazing riding experience with an awesome playlist! It was clear she was a well enjoyed instructor as the class was at FULL capacity and everyone responded very well to her energy and instructions. Although I didn't stick around to talk to any of the staff or other members, it still felt like a very welcoming community that you can easily find your place in if you try. I highly recommend checking out Soul Cycle and look forward to coming back. Just be sure to get your parking validated before you leave because I indeed had to walk all the way back after reaching my car and realizing I forgot!

SoulCycle, welcome to Virginia! This location is conveniently in the Clarendon Market Common, across from Whole Foods and in the same shopping center as Crate & Barrel, The Container Store, Pottery Barn, and Lululemon. There is metered parking, garage parking, and is a short walk from the metro. The workout itself is a 45 minute sweaty, full-body workout. The instructors are motivating and riding with you most of the time! There are theme rides as well. FYI, if you're arriving 4 minutes before class, you can call the front desk so they will reserve your bike for you (otherwise, it gets released). Gender neutral bathrooms are fully stocked with all of the products (dry shampoo, lotion, hair ties, tampons, etc.) and there are some lockers with electronic charging capabilities as well. Classes are pricey ($30 for a single class and there's a small discount when you purchase a package) and shoe rentals are only complimentary for your first time. Thankfully, I have my own spin shoes (delta clips are highly recommended!) so I don't worry about the rental fee. Overall, SoulCycle is a great studio to try if you'd like to get into spinning and need the extra motivation. All of their equipment is top of the line and the customer service is fantastic! There's staff inside the studio who are there to assist you with adjusting your bike and making sure you're comfortable.

The front desk people could be nicer. The instructors were okay. The seats are hard so you will do a lot of standing.

As somebody who works out 5-6 times a week, this class wasn't too difficult or challenging for me. Not too difficult for me because: First, A few of us would've liked to see the 45-minute session extended to a hour long session, since 45 minutes doesn't seem like enough time to really get going. Second, The bikes do not have a resistance gear, so it's different from your spinning class bicycles. I wonder what it'd be like with added resistance not just water resistance. Here's what the session looked like: a few minutes of bike adjusting, then the instructor (Jackie) showed us three positions that we would find ourselves in throughout the class- 1st position: seated; 2nd position: butt off the seat, leaning over the handlebars; 3rd position: standing up on the pedals. We did a few "hills" where she told us to pedal faster and then cool down. We changed positions in several sets. There were a few upper arm exercises thrown in where we pushed our arms through the water and pulled them back. We also did arm circles while seated on the bikes. A third upper body exercise we did was when we had to do push ups (one hand on the seat, and another on the handlebar). That specific exercise was a killer for me. Other exercises we did besides cycling was where our butts were off the seat and then we did squats on the pedals. Other things to note: Our class was at the Liaison hotel pool, which does not provide shower facilities, just three bathroom stalls for women. I bought my water shoes off amazon for $13, which worked really well. Splash Cycle does provide water shoes, and one friend did borrow them after realizing her Keen sandals didn't fit in under the pedal straps. To conclude: a bit expensive and not challenging enough to make this a regular part of my fitness routine, but a fun way for friends to spend time together and go out for brunch afterward.

100% ridiculous, 100% delightful…read more I had heard about Splash Cycle when it debuted last summer but somehow summer always gets away from me...then a few weeks ago I saw it pop up on Classpass and had to jump at the chance to splash it out! It's definitely good to read up on the workout to know what you're getting into. It's not a regular spin class - the bikes are in water and there's no resistance so it's basically like thrusting your legs around in circles instead of riding. My initial thought was 'there's no way I want to do 45 minutes of this', but the instructor surprised me as the workout included a few songs off our bikes where we did ab and leg work, as well as a few that focused on arms. No weights and just water resistance is a *really hard* arm workout! It was super fun to be in the water and get sun during a workout and for that alone Splash Cycle is worth a try. It won't be my regular work-out as it's a little hard to get to and very weather-dependent, but as a random add-in I highly recommend it.

When I entered the studio, I was greeted immediately and checked in. Since I was a first timer, I got all of the "1st time visitor" things, including a cute welcome on a reserved locker. I loved the theme of the class I took and the energy from the Soul Cycle crew and the instructor was lively and welcoming! My shoes, with Delta clips, fit their bikes and the bikes were easy enough to set up. Plus, the crew (and my bike neighbors) provided assistance. During the end of one class and the start of another, the lobby area can get a bit tight with all of the people but it's not a deal-breaker. I will definitely be back soon!!

However, if the studio is flooded, the instructor is late, the sound system isn't working etc, (all of which I've experienced) we get nothing. The experienced and best instructors continue to leave. The new ones are ok but could benefit from more instruction. And their playlists are chosen by them, so it's very hit or miss. I don't really enjoy an instrumental ride for instance. And it's SO loud. I wear earplugs but it's still barely tolerable. On a positive note, the front desk people are very nice. Also, the studio is in the same complex as a grocery store which is convenient.

No matter what shape you are in, who you will be entrusting your body to is very important. I can say with full confidence that every single one of the what? three bad reviews? Of Sweatbox  should be cast aside because they are irrelevant since none of them talk about the actual sweat method and what it does to your body. Firstly, if you are worried if fat shaming/ageism exists here. The answer is a firm NO. I am older, I am overweight , and I was  welcomed with open arms, made a part of the family immediately, and that has not changed since the first class. I went to one OrangeTheory location a year or so back and was full on fat-and-age shamed and that made my self esteem spiral down into dark abyss for a very long time. Because words hurt, because I am already so vulnerable and frightened to cross the threshold of the gym, I need support, not otherwise. SweatBox is all welcoming, all inclusive type of place. Yes, they are located inside an exact copy of the Globo Gym from Dodgeball, (I got jokes) but just walk to the back of the first floor, to the Sweatbox counter, as far as I understand, gym and them are two separate entities. I purchased a 7-day, $34.00 unlimited trial pass online, came 30 minutes early for the instruction session (important to come early, instructors won't say no to you if you show up 5 minutes prior to class, but ultimately you are shorthanding yourself on the instruction part - don't you want to know as much as you can about bike set up, and components of training? And remember that instructors have other student s  to take care of prior to class) I began my training on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 and I made sure to come every day, dragging my self in sometimes, even if my body screamed to go get nachos instead. The instructors I've experienced during the trial week were: Alexx G Shawn M Kevin D Ashley D I loved all the instructors, Alexx is all tough love, just as described in his bio, but I love his light show and music choices. Kevin has an amazing aura and energy and makes you feel included. Then comes Ashley, wow. I don't know if she somehow hypnotizes the class, but you get in the zone, stop thinking of outside world, and all you focus on is her voice, her example poses, and her corrections, nothing else. At the end of the class, when you finally come to, you realize that you worked out for a full hour and  never looked at the clock once! Shawn is a rare soul. I have my collection of special, big hearted people, the list is short, but Shawn is on it. First of all the energy during his classes is through the roof, he is so charismatic, you WANT to do good to show him your appreciation. But my experience with him is also more personal. When I felt embarrassed, questioned myself, felt weak, cried like a baby after second class, Shawn in the gentlest of ways supported me, was there for me, helped me get past those hurdles and I cannot be more thankful. He always has words of encouragement, listens with attention, he is present. What an amazing human being. To sum up - 15 lbs. down (results will vary of course) and I signed up for an unlimited monthly. They got me good.

The music selection was great (think upbeat, fun, and kept you moving), and the coach was genuinely warm and welcoming when I walked in. If you're looking to switch up your routine or try something different, it definitely checks that box. That said, a few things didn't quite land for me. The space is very small and boutique, which is cozy in one sense, but also felt a bit cramped once the class started. I've been Olympic lifting for about two years now, and I noticed one person struggling with their front rack squat form. I didn't feel comfortable stepping in as a newcomer, and it was tough watching the coach not address or correct it. Form matters for safety, especially when we're working under load, so that was a concern for me. Also, the class flow was guided by a single small screen with a timer, and the alert to switch stations was super faint. I found myself constantly glancing around to make sure I wasn't missing transitions because I couldn't really hear the cue. Overall, I loved the idea of the class and the friendliness of the coach, but I would have appreciated more coaching engagement, motivation, and attention to form, especially given the style of training. I think with a bit more hands-on guidance and clearer structure, this class could be a really great experience.
