Next month will be a year since our daughter started and Professor Andre, Coach Eric, Coach Brayden, and Coach Stormy have been a huge influence on her and we credit them with helping her gain incredible confidence. BJJ has helped her grow so much on and off the mat in just one year. Professor Andre and the staff have such a way with the kids. They offer a free week of training to anyone regardless of experience, both of which is rare; it's rare for that length of time and it's only offered to new people. On top of that, the Open Mats on Saturday are free to all. An interesting quirk here is that the classes aren't divided into Gi/No-Gi classes. Miguel's approach is that everyone should be proficient in both so there's a weekly rotation between Gi and No-Gi which goes towards being well-rounded. I usually stick with Gi classes but by coming here I couldn't 'hide out' in my pajamas. What's more I know for a fact that Professor Miguel has always been willing to help out his students life situation he'll find a way to keep his students training.

I've never been to Rico's Muay Thai class, but I hear great things about it from the people who attend. There's a family vibe at 10PGTX. Lots of positivity. You can get as competitive as you want here, but you won't find people trying to hurt each other. I came here with zero grappling experience, and can honestly say that this is the best thing I've done for my health as an adult (mental and physical). I've lost 30 lbs in a year. The only change I made over that year was starting classes at 10PGTX. No diet changes, no additional exercise. The only regret I have is not starting this sport sooner! Try it. Unsafe training, bad mats, and poor environment I walked in fine and left injured…read more I decided to try out this gym because it's close to my house. From the moment I first walked in to ask about a free trial, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable everyone looked at me like I was some kind of intruder instead of a potential new student. No one greeted me or tried to make me feel welcome. That should've been the first red flag. During training, things went from awkward to dangerous. Someone decided to pull on my heel extremely hard not even applying a proper inside heel hook or any legitimate control and I felt a pop in my knee. I immediately knew something was wrong. That one careless move left me with internal damage in my left knee. I can barely move it now and can't afford the medical costs to fix it. It's been painful physically and mentally because I came here just to learn and have a good experience. On top of that, the mats were terrible. They had almost no grip super slippery even when dry. It's the kind of surface where you can slide around during drilling or sparring, which makes it way easier to get hurt. A gym that takes safety seriously would invest in proper mats like Fuji or Zebra mats, not the cheap ones that feel like plastic flooring. I'm not posting this out of anger I just want to give people an honest warning. The environment here doesn't feel controlled, and safety clearly isn't a priority. If you're looking for a competitive but respectful place to train, I strongly suggest going somewhere else. I train at Kingsway, and it's a night and day difference still very intense and competitive, but everything is structured, the mats are safe, and people actually look out for each other. That's how a real gym should operate.

I previously trained at the Gracie Humaita in South Austin. There I complained several times about…read morean individual named Creig O'Obrien. An obese white belt that would pick fights with the other lower belts on the mat and in the changing room. My complaints went unheard. I quit and over a year's time, several others quit too. They only removed him after he bit someone in sparring. Then he just went to the Humaita in Cedar Park, where I was attending the free veteran training days because I'm a Iraq war veteran with PTSD, but he would just show up to those classes too even though he wasn't a veteran. He would do it to harass me. So I quit going here too. Finally he was kicked out of there 6-12 months later. I cannot support a school that doesn't take harassment or threats of abuse from their members seriously. There clearly just shuffled him around from one Humaita school to another Humaita School. Creig is still in the community and he fights amateur Muay Thai at local bars. I cannot recommend this school because they allowed this problem into their school knowing his reputation, until he became too much of a problem for them. However I never made a complaint about him to this school. I just gave up.
