My 7yo had his first official martial arts training here last week. Its especially tough cuz he was…read moreintroduced to take the class on his trial day, full on. Having been taught never to lay a hand on someone, especially girls, let alone pushing and grabbing, along with tumbling is still a learning process, but mostly positive. Its most difficult because he doesnt know what the martial arts is about. I even dont. Its not anout a knock out or hurting. He learns a move a day and may be repetitive the following day. But its not like karate where you might learn a move, repeat that quick motion, and move on. It had to be learned and almost instinctual. There are steps to follow for the move to be purposeful. Its difficult for my kid amongst others to comprehend and learn and that I (and theirs) need to pay attention from the narrow seating area to recreate at home to get the most of the teaching. Overall a good experience. Waiting to experience the Texas heat in the small space with large attendance. Btw, if you want "Brazilian" Jiu Jitsu, you'll get the emersive accent and light language barrier if you can handle it. Quite authentic culturally in this small local business. They seem to be very people loving, relaxed, yet strict with their dojo behavior as expected. I would actually appreciate more obedience and respect training like original japanese jiu jitsu.

We were introduced to Coach Colin through a friend as he was just opening Hutto BJJ. He was extremely flexible and met our weekend schedule needs. We immediately liked him for his communication style, diverse martial arts knowledge, and is great with kids. We recently had another private...our son is now 9, and coach is now a Professor! I think its going to be our thing to book a private before tournaments. He goes through as many topics and scenarios as you can handle. Its like cramming before a test and I think its invaluable and affordable! As a side note: My 2yo was going nuts with his play setup. She also liked him instantly. She quickly learned him name and still talks about that day. FYI I think he might be starting something for the little littles

Unexpected fee after cancellation + refund refused…read more We enrolled our son, Talen, at Johns Gym in Austin and withdrew/cancelled his membership in April as a result of a blood clot and condition that does not allow him to box anymore. After the cancellation, we were still charged an additional fee. We contacted the gym right away to request a refund, but we were told we missed the reimbursement/refund window, so a refund would not be provided. I understand businesses have policies, but this felt frustrating and unfair given that we had already withdrawn him. I'm leaving this review so other families clearly understand the billing and refund timelines before signing up. I'd appreciate the gym revisiting this situation and making it right.

So I went to unity combat club today and I honestly hate to type this but it's not a welcoming gym…read moreespecially on SUNDAY where it's supposed to be open mat sparring. I was told have too much pride by a student there in the mist of him yelling. He also called me out saying letting me get in there with him. I replied your 100 lbs heavier than me. He continued on and on and approaching me even calling me a bitch. That is when the coach started to intervene and say you might as well shut up because there's only so much of him that I can control his exact words as I caught the drift and he continued on saying that I teed off on one of his guys as I hit him with a body shot and he was the second guy I faced, but they were trying to drop me with headshot so I see no issues as that's what the Coach was calling for them to do to me and I went to his body. But as soon as I disagreed and said, I did not tee off on him he took off his glasses and said you're really starting to piss me off proceeded to jump down from standing ring side grabbed me, shook me up as I was out of breath still trying to walk out the door because he was kicking me out I couldn't even make it to my stuff and pick it up in a timely manner as he was stalking me tell me I wasn't moving quick and then again proceeded to snatch me up and push me out the door as soon as I could pick up my bag, I agreed on leaving and this action was totally unnecessary and humiliating as a fighter as I just let him do his thing as it's his gym and I felt like I was in position to get jumped. I called the police so a police report has been filed. As if I even tried to stop him from assaulting me, I know there would have been greater conflict as once he took off his glasses and didn't try to reason I started to realize there was no bringing him back. I have not been training long or any really in a boxing gym and would have loved to know what I did so wrong especially since I did not start the confrontation and ultimately this is just unsettling and I don't want anyone else to be in the situation that's why was a necessity for me to type this to go ahead and move on as the Coaches name was BRIAN MOSS and even after calling the police they just wrote it up as assault by contact which most likely nothing will be done, but that gave him opportunity to file trespassing against me and I am not allowed in that gym for at least a year this is now conflicts with me doing a smoker and other training so coming out of the situation I actually lost more. There are so many places to train in the area but none that we have encountered have been so…read moreexceptional for the youth. Our 3 children ages 14 (115lbs), 12 (70lbs) and 10 (50lbs) have tons of partners including highly skilled partners to train with which historically has been a challenge to say the least. Professor Bruno and all of the Coaches provide a very structured class where discipline, respect and good behavior is expected and they have an amazing way of pushing them through adversity. The advanced youth classes are also 75 mins long which is huge and not the norm anywhere else that I have seen. This means plenty of time for technique and plenty of time for live rolls. The Adult classes have also been exceptional and I can only speak for the Tuesday and Thursday afternoon classes but they are an amazing group to train with and are all super welcoming. My Wife and I have been leveling up quickly thanks to great instruction and partners. This place is a 10 out of 10 in a very saturated BJJ area. If you have a young highly skilled child and they are not currently being challenged, don't have enough partners or their class is short and full of games, this may indeed be the change you have been looking for!

We have have seen a great improvement in their behavior and performance both at home and school. The values we instill at home of manners, self respect, respect for others, self confidence, self improvement, and accountability are all reinforced at Peak as well as all of their various athletic programs. In fact, I have enjoyed their involvement in the Soul Fighters BJJ program so much that I have recently enrolled as well. The connection I will build with my sons through BJJ will be a fundamental block upon which our relationship stands and evolves as they age and grow into their individual personalities. I couldn't be happier with the prospect of such a bright future.

My child joined for two weeks and now vortex wants us to pay for the entire class, I'm not going to pay for a service I didn't use this business must be struggling this bad to harass folks to pay for a service they didn't use.

I've never been to Rico's Muay Thai class, but I hear great things about it from the people who attend. There's a family vibe at 10PGTX. Lots of positivity. You can get as competitive as you want here, but you won't find people trying to hurt each other. I came here with zero grappling experience, and can honestly say that this is the best thing I've done for my health as an adult (mental and physical). I've lost 30 lbs in a year. The only change I made over that year was starting classes at 10PGTX. No diet changes, no additional exercise. The only regret I have is not starting this sport sooner! Try it. If you catch the bug, you'll no longer be able to imagine your life without it.

The Professor/Black belt is incredibly knowledgeable and made me feel very welcome. The Jiu-Jitsu classes are a great conditioning workout as well as Self Defense classes that are very practical for anyone! My wife loves it because the Professor will have Self Defense classes for only women. If you want to join a gym that all the classes are 100% instructed by a Black Belt, you need to try Soul Fighters Georgetown. I love the family atmosphere here and can't wait to get both of my sons into Jiu-Jitsu with me! I'm looking forward to my family growing with Soul Fighters Georgetown!
