She has a wonderful kitchen that's sets the tone for a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Monica is a great teacher. She's great at answering all kinds of food, food prep and cooking questions. She showed us how easy it is to make amazing dishes that I look forward to trying. And the great thing is she's a phone call away if I need help when I try these dishes. Not only will you get to sample the dishes she'll make, you also get to bring portions of each dish home with you -- so don't forget to bring tupperware!

This was such an amazing experience to with two incredible chefs dual it out on three courses, over…read morethree hours. Sitting up close to the kitchen, we got to see them cook and plate their appetizers, entree and desserts dishes from scratch, incorporating the ingredients that were given to them. Throughout the cooking, we also interacted with the chefs, asking them about the dishes, and also getting some samples of the dishes before they were served. We arrived for Sunday dinner reservation right on time. It was small space with about 20 spots. BYOB place, no cork fee. Half of the seat were around the kitchen. There was a scoring sheet for each guest with names of both chefs, the ingredients of the day and the rules. The chefs got 45 minutes for preparing their appetizers, 35 minutes for entree and 20 minutes for desserts. It was impressive to see both chefs were precise with their timing. The dishes prepared by both chefs were so masterful, had intricacy of combining the ingredients and coming up with some sumptuous flavors. Salmon and steaks were cooked perfectly. It was extremely difficult to score the chefs on barest of margins and pick a winner. But per the rules I did pick Chef Ryan Beegel over Chef Alexis Sicklick. The host was also super nice and funny. She did a super job of explaining all aspects of the dinner, cleaning out plates after each round and serving all the drinks. Truly it was one of a kind TV Show like experience for us.

For $125/person, I had expected better tasting food though. The small appetizers (spinach salad, prosciutto, Parmesan, olives) may have been put together from a grocery store. For the pasta that we rolled out, the staff only added a plain tomato sauce. The side of vegetables was overcooked and mushy. Tiramisu was all right. We can blame the taste and texture of the pasta on ourselves, because we made it, but I had expected the rest of the food prepared by professionals to be better. No drinks were included -- Healthy Italia is BYOB. There was a nice intro video from the owner telling us about her history and philosophy. She said that she doesn't measure ingredients, and only mixes by feel. How does one teach a cooking class like this? If someone is taking a cooking class, they are less experienced and need precise measurements and instructions. Our flour and water were measured for us, so I guess they do measure something. We were never told the measurements, so didn't have any recipe or any specific learnings to take home. I enjoyed the social time with my group, and especially the long table set out for our group in true Italian fashion. It made us feel like a big cohesive family. However, for $125/person, I felt like we could have had a true learning experience elsewhere or had a much better Italian dinner at a restaurant with drinks. In fact, on the subsequent evening, a few individuals from our group went to a restaurant and ordered similar items served at this cooking class, and the food was remarkably better. And yes, it was less than $125/person with drinks.

Showed how easy it was to access the recipes and allowed customers to partake in cooking on the machines. I had told everyone at home about what I was doing, and how much I was looking forward to it, and how cool it was. And then Chef Denis canceled the day before our reservation. I know things can happen but he did not use the word "emergency" when leaving his message that he was canceling. Fortunately I have world's greatest nephew so he took me to an amazing Italian restaurant, instead, for my birthday, after we spent a glorious day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And he bought me beautiful earrings. He really is the greatest nephew. I had a wonderful birthday. When considering this business, I think it's important to know that canceling can, and does, happen, and apparently in the absence of an emergency.

I'm not a huge fan of seafood, however I also had the opportunity to try the whiting, and it was fresh and light! Chef Talon has constructed a menu that plays to perfection and isn't overwhelming when viewing. There are also specials on occasion and brunch items, so you are never bored with the offerings.
