Mixed feelings about Della Terra Catering, hence the three stars. I would certainly recommend them for a smaller event--their food is fantastic and JoAnne Morton, the owner is for the most part a pleasure to work with! I loved that we could get locally sourced food within our budget and integrate our and Della Terra's creativity into the menu.
I would NOT recommend them for a large scale event, like my wedding of 120. The cocktail hour was amazing and all our guests raved, however when it got to the main course, dishes were inconsistent. Some undercooked and some practically charred that they needed to be sent back.
The schedule was horribly off--our wedding cake was served 5 minutes before guests were leaving. Della Terra provided a detailed schedule for the dinner and I incorporated the important dances, speeches, etc into that schedule. The main course was hugely delayed, messing up the rest of the schedule.
We purchased our own wine, from vineyards very special to us. We purposely ordered more than necessary to make sure we did not run out and so there would be left over bottles after the wedding. Mind you, these were not cheap bottles. Della Terra's staff opened ALL the red wine bottles, so the next morning we found ourselves confronted with 2 cases of uncorked wine. So much for saving. Plus there was at least 1 case of white left in the kitchen's refrigerator that the staff must have thought was part of their "tip" because it was not there the next morning.
The worst part of the entire experience was when I emailed JoAnne (and so did my mom) a few days after to thank her for everything and point out a single negative about why they staff uncorked the wine (I decided not to blame her entirely on her own faulty schedule), she never responded. For someone who had been so responsive through the entire event, but then can't admit a mistake and runs off after she's paid, I start to debate her professionalism.
If you're planning on hosting a small dinner of 30 or a cocktail party of less than 100 and want creative, inspired food, I would certainly recommend Della Terra. But if you're planning a large wedding or other event, stay away or make sure you have your own event planner who will keep tabs on the schedule and your alcohol! read more
