Soul Burger specialises in plant based burgers. They also offer shakes which are made from house made coconut ice cream. The burgers here are by far the best veggie burgers I have come across. We sampled the American Bad Ass Burger which was made up of plant based beef(veggie patty) veggie slaw, hash brown, onion rings caramelised onions mustard and ketchup. A solid burger with plenty of texture and flavour. We also shared the el capitan a Mexican style burger, with tortilla chips, guacamole, tomato relish and chipotle aioli. Another quality veggie burger. We added a serve of sweet potato fries, always a favourite for us. We washed this down with the choc banana shakes. Soul Burger was alot better than expected. So how do you know you're onto a winning thing when you own a completely plant based burger joint? When carnivores like myself show up purely on word of mouth, that's how! I rocked up to Soul Burger for lunch today on a sporadic tip off from the Yelp Community. Passing through the Eastern Suburbs, this place hit my radar quicker than my Mum knocking down the frail at a Uniqlo sale. Saddling up to the counter, I threw down the gauntlet & ordered a Cheeseburger (plant-based beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles, tomato relish & mustard aioli - $13), a large serve of Kumara Fries ($7) & a Chocolate Coconut Shake ($7). Ambitious perhaps, but I wasn't leaving this place without a decent go at it's menu. Having read reviews indicating that their burgers tasted as close to meat as it comes, I wanted to eat as much 'I Can't Believe It's Not Meat' as I could stuff in my eager face. With offerings extending as far as a Battered Fish Burger (which isn't actually fish at all), I found it intriguing just how creative this menu posed itself to be. Unfortunately for me - too much menu, not enough time & definitely not enough stomach! Taking a seat with my friend, the Chocolate Coconut Shake arrived no sooner than we'd gotten settled. Throwing in 2 straws, we buckled up & jumped in with both feet. For the record, let it be known the first words that left my mouth weren't at all work or child appropriate. This shake legitimately left every previous shake I've ever had weeping pathetically while I kicked dirt in their eyes. Henceforth, this shall be the One shake to rule them all. Setting the bar extremely high, our meal quickly arrived at our table. Very cooly plated on blue rimmed-white enamel plates, everything looked majestic. The Kumara Fries, served with a with a small side of aioli, were wonderfully crisp & perfectly salted. These fries were unreal. Not my first rodeo with kumara fries, I've often found these to be a real 'hit & miss' in the chip world. Not so here, not even close. Up next, the Cheeseburger. Mustard aioli oozing from its belly & a forbidding knife pointing skyward from it's vegan guts, it eyeballed me realising my intentions. On first bite, aioli covered my hands & face; flavour punched me in the mouth repeatedly. This was a seriously messy burger. Seriously messy = Seriously f*#@ing epic! While not one to mince words, this burger is legitimately made of the good stuff, minus the bacon. As a self confessed 'Meat Junkie' there are just so many unexpected elements I loved about my meal at Soul Burger, suffice it to say, I will be back. My head exploded and my brain dripped out of my ears like mayonnaise when I was eating these burger-tasting burgers that weren't actually burgers but vegetables. Are you following? Okay, stick with me. This place is veggie AF, and twice as tasty. I've had the falafel, the Sumo Burger, the Chilli Beef, and the Battered Fish. None of which are what they're called, it's Transformers More Then Meets The Eye all up in nyar, when did not meat start tasting so good? You have to get the red fries. Not negotiable, just do it. The shakes are also pretty boss hog, especially the choc coconut. Nobody that knows what's good for them doesn't like coconut. Plus they serve Young Henry's! Ahoy! Ain't no place like this in Sydney. So much to love about this place! 100% will be back. I have been trying a fair few veggie burgers here and there, but then there are times I just feel like a classic cheeseburger, and now I have a place to go which is amazing in itself but Soul Burger also has really tasty burgers. They don't taste exactly like the usual cheeseburger you may be used to, but honestly I don't need it to as these are better in a lot of ways. Also, tried the chilli beef and couldn't really pick a fav in terms of taste but may go back to the classic, just because. Loved the fries too - they are super generous with the sizes as well. Update - they're now completely vegan! This place is the bomb. My sister and I split the fish and the cheeseburger - both insanely delicious but the fish won for me. Crispy and ever so fishy - yes it's a winner. Just get to soul burger and support these awesome people! Oh but I am surprised they don't have a fake chicken burger.. Grrreat burgers here! Firstly let's talk about their whole philosophy - it's awesome. Soul Burger claims to be a flexitarian burger joint - they care about where the meat comes from and they offer a range of (amazing) veggie options. Totally down with this place and you should be too. I tried the falafel burger and was very pleasantly surprised - it was crispy, tasty and soaked up the sauce perfectly. Not dry and tasteless like other falafel patties! I also ordered the 'red' chips with aioli - delicious. On top of the food they offer a nice range of soda and beer too. My first visit here was on a very quiet long weekend not long after it first opened. I saw the potential & kept it on my list to return. So an Aprils Fool Day joke turned out to be on the menu for the whole month. A $35 plant based burger measuring more than 15cm in height, that's without the coconut shake underneath!! My biggest challenge with this experience was the communication with the staff that took my order. I do hope he learns soon. Or someone educates him & it's not a business that employs people just to carry out tasks. Despite this place being vegan, he seemed to not understand that I did NOT want milk of any kind in my shake. Soy or not!! No milk!! The debacle in my head & time to explain this simply was not necessary. Anyway, happy with my order. Looking forward to seeing what they have next month. Love love love the kumera fries!! We have dined here many times before and have eaten quite a few of their burgers, but their new vegetarian range is simply amazing and delicious. On this occasion my good buddies and I tried the Falafel burger, the Fish burger and their popular Sumo burger. The 'meat' is not meat, but it looks like meat and tastes like meat. It is a little wired but it's really, really enjoyable. The flavours on all of the burgers combine very well. I am a huge meat lover, but heck why not try some healthier burger options if you can. Pretty damn awesome. I went here for the first time today and was impressed to say the least. They are all plant based burgers. Some fake meat. Some not. I will eventually try them all but today I had the chilli "beef"burger and it was good. I am vego but usually aren't that into fake meat products but this was good. Nutty and gently spiced. The bread is also excellent and light. As you can probably tell I'm a bit excited about this joint and will be there again tomorrow. All these different layers on top of a shake. I believe what started out as an April fools joke has now become a special for the month. My only problem with Soul Burger is that I only have one stomach, but I wanted to order one of everything. All food is plant based and vegan friendly straight off the menu, no need for custom orders. They also do a good job of keeping that out of everyones face and letting the food speak for itself - so even die hard carni's would be tricked into giving it a thumbs up I'm sure. Amazing! Eat here if you want to mosh a huge burger and still feel good afterwards! As a vegetarian I was impressed (and a little freaked out?) how real the meat tasted. But in a good way, because it had that healthy clean taste that real meat doesn't have (ugh, one word: gristle). We tried the southern fried chicken and the pulled pork bbq, as well as the red fries.
