These guys are AMAZING! I had a tree that had wires are in it. Many companies wouldn't touch it! Soppa crew came over and within 2 1/2 hrs. Had the work totally completed!! We are talking having to remove part of my wooden fence, Com Ed to take wire down, they took down cable wires, telephone wires, moved three Arborvitaes in pots, Take down a massive tree, reconnected wires when done, called Com Ed to replace my electric wire, move my pots back into place put back my fence, totally cleaned up everything and left. All in that short of time!!! They where like a well oiled machine as a crew. Everyone knew what they had to do and did it well. I'm beyond impressed. No doubt a 5 star rating. Tony came out to give me a quote and handed me his proof of insurance paper. He took time assessing what I needed done, some of which needed care not to hit our house. He followed up with a detailed quote explaining what all they would do which included dropping a 75 foot oak which had a lot of rot, trimming oaks which were close to the house and grinding three stumps. I can't say enough good things about Tony and his business. I've used them twice now. The first time a couple of years ago when I had a tree that was growing too close to the house and I couldn't get it down with out damaging either my property or the neighbors. He and his crew came in and did a fantastic job removing the tree and cleaning up afterward. Then just this last weekend amidst all the straight line winds and micro bursts that plagued Rockford last weekend I had a very large pine tree blow down on my garage. I called late on a Saturday leaving a message not expecting to hear from anyone until Monday. Tony called me back Saturday night to touch base. He came out on Sunday and gave me an estimate the same day. We had to wait to move a dumpster out of my driveway so his equipment could get in to do the job. As soon as it was moved he was there the next day with his crew. He gave me an estimate and went over what I wanted and what the estimate covered. He told me what additional he could do and how much extra it would cost if I wanted it. (IE Stump grinding vs bare minimal tree removal) They were fast. They were professional. They cleaned up after themselves. They did good work. I can't say enough good things about them. Right off the bat, I rate Soppa's Tree service at five stars. The phone service was excellent when taking preliminary information. The rep showed up on time, evaluated the service needed, and gave me a copy of their Certificate of Liability Insurance. Within a day, I received an email with the particulars of the service and estimate. The tree and trunk removal was accomplished within the day without damage to the lawn by equipment, and there was not one stick of debris. The mound left from the trunk removal was neatly landscaped and enhanced the appearance of the grounds. The workers were totally professional in their work skills, cordial, and friendly. read more

Highly recommend Tony Soppa's tree service. My review is very similar to the other positive reviews here. We had a large pin oak, that was planted by the original homeowners too close to the home, and was becoming problematic for multiple reasons. Tony came out within a day after contacting him. He provided the proof of insurance, discussed all our needs and options , assessed the situation, etc. They followed up within a day with quotes that were fair and competitive to another company's quotes that we received. They were able to do the work shortly thereafter, and on a cold December morning also . The crew members were very friendly, knowledgeable, hard working, efficient, and thorough. They took care as there were issues like a small flowering tree nearby that we wanted to keep , and part of the tree to be removed was over our home. They also had to be careful when grinding out the stump, as the tree main trunk was basically over the not so deep gas line. They were also very accommodating to us and our neighbors as they had to approach the tree with the bucket truck from the neighbor's driveway and yard. read more

I had several LARGE downed hickory trees that blocked my driveway and were too big for me to cut apart on my own. I called Mr. stoppa and he came by that afternoon. He came the next day and he and his crew of 6-7 got the work done in the next 48 hours. I had MINIMAL lawn damage. And they cleaned up my entire yard, including all the downed hickory nuts. They left me the lumber so I can split it into fire wood. They took the mulch as I asked, but would have left that as well. Excellent, swift service. read more

We have my Dads pride and joy pin oak tree that is around 62 years old. It was in dire need of a canopy trim. Soppa came out with their bucket truck and about 5 guys worked on trimming up all areas while making sure the shape was eye appealing. They made my Dad happy from start to finish! I am VERY impressed with this service!!! I had a 50+ foot ash tree in my front yard that was dying/dead. I requested a quote, Tony showed up the same day and first gave me his insurance information. We've had trees removed by another area business and the experience was not good, in terms of both quality of service as well as professionalism. Openly hitting on the wife isn't going to fly, particularly after she's rebuffed you once in that non-threatening, Midwestern way. Following up with equal lack of attention to detail, and we're going to have issues. With this in mind, we've been hit --as have so many of our area elms-- with the very aggressively decimating dutch elm disease and within two years recognized we've 5 mature elms, all 40'+, admidst our yard's gardens and dead as the proverbial doornail. From leafy and lovely one year to shedding limbs and sloughing bark the next year...sad. But it is what it is and trees must come down. Of course we ruled out the apparently popular/widely used, aforementioned local service and poked around the web to glean enough positive response and narrow our focus toward the usual suspects: output, price, reputation. Short story, long, we contacted one crew seen in the neighborhood...but that didn't "feel" right. Ultimately, we ended up calling Tony Soppa. He came to our property at an agreed upon day/time, walked the property, discussed options openly and clearly, accurately summarized the intended and agreed upon direction of work, and within 2 days had a quote to us. The job was to be 7 trees: 5 dead elm, 1 driveway-crowding and buckling oak, and one lower yard, black walnut that was unruly, unwanted and really little more than a mess-making sun-blocker. 6 stumps ground, ALL debris removed. I'd share the price but, well, all job particulars can and typically are not identical to another, so perhaps our work order would show differently than yours, even with an equal amount of removal. We'll say the price was surprisingly "low" and WELL below another quote we received for fewer trees and lesser cleanup. With a healthly dose of cautious optimism, we agreed and scheduled the work. Unfortunately for us, after the work had been scheduled, we had a couple/few days of rain, which with our neighborhood topography always results in a colossal amount of runoff coming under/around our drive/street area, flowing freely through our yard and around gardens precisely where 6 of the 7 trees have lived and died. The ground gets and was, so wet merely stepping near the gardens brought water squooging (yes, squooging) out around one's feet and into shoes. I could easily envision the destruction that was going to result with heavy machinery, falling limbs and tree trunks. I wanted to postpone; got outvoted by my partner. Yesterday, Tony and his crew arrived promptly at 8a, walked through the agreed upon work with his crew and spent a bit of time with me addressing my now voiced concerns regarding the project. Within minutes, Tony's crew began setup and clearly had a logical plan of attack. Moreover, while Tony was doing a solid job of putting my mind at ease, his crew was attentively positioning thick plywood in an arc that quite apparently would serve as the avenue to the bucket truck blocked drive and the roadside chipper/truck for non-chippable wood. His crew began their work, and everyone clearly had a defined role as well as cooperative spirit. I watched for about an hour, from both in and out of the house, took some photos, and it wasn't entirely unlike watching ants work: quiet, efficient, energetic, focused. I had to get out of the driveway 3.5-hours after they began and shared as much early on. The crew leader pleasantly assured me they'd either be out of the drive by then or would be able to move out of the way ahead of my stated time. I appreciated that small, but important, element of detail attention that came up over and over during my observed portions of their roughly 5.5-hr job. When 11:30 came and i backed my car out of the garage, the drive was clear and the crew had moved to the lone tree away from the upper drive cluster of 6 others. When i returned at 2:15ish, the crew was gone -- and honestly, outside of the temporarily removed, too-close garden vegetation we'd pulled the day beforehand, the only real evidence of this work crew was a slight impression/flattening on the yard under the plywood track and some fine wood chips that were in the raked out earth where once were large, mature trees. I walked the gardens on both sides of our driveway, searching for damage or overlooked debris. There wasn't any to be found! We have in our gardens an abundance of hostas, as well as a smattering of other, flowering perennials and some smaller, ornamental trees and shrubs: japanese maples, hydrangeas, as well as some native, wild plants that we don't weed out when we hand-weed the entirety of our gardens and property perimeter, every year, to fight the fight of keeping nature at bay. This crew did an AMAZING job of protecting desired plantings, policing ALL debris, sweeping/raking/smoothing at conclusion. And at this low, low price? CALL SOPPA'S!!!! read more
