I had high hopes for this establishment but was greatly disappointed. I use the yelp app on a regular basis especially when I'm in new towns trying to find local places that I want to try to go get something new to eat. The pictures and menu was very inviting but when I received my breakfast and drink my coffee at Sophia's I was again disappointed. The coffee left a bitter aftertaste. As for the breakfast is sounded delicious but the potatoes were disgusting. They tasted like they had been previously cooked left in the fridge for about a week and then pulled out and warm back up. I am visiting Billings for work and on my way into town I was starved after not eating for many hours. As soon as I landed I googled "brunch in Billings" and this was the first hit, so I ventured to Sophie's. From the outside it looks like any other generic restaurant under a new-ish apartment complex but let me tell you this place is a hidden GEM!!!! I sat alone at the bar and the service was spectacular. The employees were attentive, kind and helpful. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich and bottomless mimosas and neither disappointed. The food was hot, fresh and definitely tasted homemade. The tots were a perfect substitute. Portions are huge!! I highly recommend this place for both the food and the service and I will definitely return the next time I am in Billings. read more

You have a choice of indoor, semi-indoor (near an overhead door) or the patio (I went with the patio). While the menu isn't packed with options, the staff is clearly going out of their way to curate the selections and the ingredients (from local farmers) to provide something for everyone. Expectations. It's good to have those challenged from time to time. Sophie's Kitchen, still in the opening phase, seems to have found a way to do that. My visit was during a brunch period and there were only a few tables taken. When I walked in, after confirming they were open, I was given the option of sitting at the counter (not an uncommon event). I'm not sure what prompted it, but although there were about 6 or 7 seats at the counter and only 1 was occupied, I was seated at the spot immediately next to the occupied one. What? Really? I moved myself over. It may be weird, but I didn't see the need for sitting at the next open seat when all the seats were available and there was no one waiting in line. The restaurant is modern, open concept, taking advantage of the tall windows and natural light with uncluttered tables and earthy colors in the green walls and dark floors and table. It's both current and classic in an upscale way. Sophie's Kitchen has an interesting menu: separate pages for egg dishes, brunch sides, lunch, appetizers, and drinks, and each page notes the days and times of day the items are available. I don't know if there's a separate menu for non-weekends, but I would guess not, given what I gleaned from the times and the various menu choices. It's comfort food, with a modern spin. There were several things on the brunch menu that looked good, but I chose an egg dish that included salmon and capers on grilled bread. It came with hash browns. This is where usual expectations were challenged. The hashbrowns were very good with exact right amount of crispy. The star item, the scrambled eggs with dill were excellent. It was served on cream cheese with shredded salmon, capers, onion. For me, the temperature was off, but I think had this dish been combined with something other than a food associated with breakfast (hash browns), it wouldn't have been a disconnect. I could see it as a non-traditional egg dish on the grilled bread, alone, or with a less-traditional side. Overall, it was very good and I'd definitely get it again. I like having expectations challenged and this particular combination made me look at this in a different way. The kitchen staff did a good job. It was all delicious, and there was enough for a second serving at home. Once its' been opened long enough to smooth through the inevitable opening jitters, it will be a nice spot to come for something different. With expectations in check, of course. read more

Great food and great service! We arrived on Friday morning and Sophie's was fairly busy. The staff was hustling and we were seated promptly. Our waitperson - JT I believe, was welcoming, efficient and friendly. Since they were busy it took a while for our food (not unreasonable by any means) and JT came to our table to apologize for the wait. That is always appreciated! We visited Sophie's for breakfast on the first Saturday they were open. There was a wait (to be expected with a new place.). We waited 15-20 minutes and were seated. All people must be there to be seated. The staff let us know the kitchen was backed up and to please be patient. There was an issue with the dishwasher that morning and something with the coffee maker. The food did take time but our waitress was great and brought our 3 year olds fruit first, a coffee cake to munch on (complimentary) and kept our coffee cups full!
