Sonya is so sweet. She gave me lots of tips and great interaction. I told her what i wanted and she shaped my hair wonderfully. I have kinky curly hair about a 3c/4a mix. I didnt like the way my hair was growing in and told her my woes and she fixed it. She gave me a great consultation to find out what my main issues were. She was knowledgeable about natural hair and different products. The salon is beautiful and calm, with a great playlist! My only issue was the "styling". I think thats probably just one area that needs work. After my wash and cut she twisted my hair and it just wasnt cute and kind of kinked my hair up, so i had to re-wash when i got home. But im very happy with the cut and her very sweet personality. read more

Sonia is the BEST hairstylist I've ever had. I've been seeing her on reference from my Austin hairdresser for about 2 years now. I've never been able to grow my hair this long, but thanks to her amazing skills, it's the longest I've ever had. I also have very curly hair; I actually didn't know how curly it could get, until I sat in her chair. It's now ringlets where before it was merely frizzy waves. No one else "got it" when it comes to curly hair. They would only cut blunt, fat, chunky layers when really Sonia knows the trick to having the curls wrap around each other as they cascade down. Simply amazing talent. I WAS NOT PAID TO WRITE THIS!!! She really is worth every single penny. I have to say she is my favorite hairdresser I've ever had. I have also never seen anyone pay attention to my requests. Every single time I walk out, I know I got EXACTLY what I wanted. 1 inch = 1 inch with Sonia. I am amazed she knows exactly what to do...when I've said the exact same words to other hair dressers, but never got the right results for curly hair. Okay, I have a tragic story to tell. My boyfriend told my last stylist that he wanted my light brown hair dark, and so , before I knew it, was a shade of REALLY dark brown completely unflattering to my pale, Irish complexion. After months and months trying to keep up with the roots myself, which were horribly apparent every week or so, and enduring countless suggestions from my mother to go back to that "beautiful color you were born with," I came upon Sonya, who was recommended by of all people, my chiropractor, who has fabulous hair. Sonya took one look and knew what to do. What transpired was four hours of her working her hardest to restore my hair to it's original brown, which she did, beautifully, and with a terrific cut and some subtle highlights to boot. If that wasn't enough, she insisted on taking lower than her usual hourly rate, because it ended up taking so long. I will never go anywhere else for my hair. read more

Sonya is amazing! I saw her a month back where she gave me a complete new look. Kind of like - new look for the new year. My hair is not only more managable but she taught me a ton of styling techniques based on my hair type. She suggested a ton of products that may work and actually wrote it down in an email for me - it stays forever! Not to mention that I went back for an adjustment with the bangs and she totally fixed it. All in all, its worth the $$$ and even though I am moving to San Fran, I know that I am planning NY trips around my haircuts. One last think- Sonya is amazing for curly/wavy type hair! This review is way overdue on yelp (though Sonya has quite a large fanbase on citysearch). The bottom line is, Sonya is an AMAZING stylist. I found her about a year and a half ago after reading some reviews on citysearch indicating she worked well with curly hair. I have "mixed" hair, black and white with tight S-shaped ringlets. Since moving to the city a few years ago, I've had my hair cut at both Devachan and Christo Fifth Avenue. I liked Devachan, but it was hit and miss with the cut (and extremely pricey) while Christo was just a miss. After much research, I decided to give Sonya a try. The first cut was incredible. I gave her some vague description of what I was going for, and by the end it almost exactly matched the picture I'd never shown her. And the price was very reasonable (though now more than those listed below. Still worth it.) I received compliment after compliment. I went back and the second cut was as successful as the first. Upon going back a third time, I decided I wanted something a little different, and shorter than I'd gone the past couple of times. I will tell you that my type of hair can look pretty disastrous with the wrong short cut, so the fact that I was doing this was pretty daring. But it looked fabulous! Many, many compliments. i came for sonya for haircut by search her on yelp. scheduling appointment was pretty easy and sonya really reply your vm or text promptly. she listened to what you asked for and give you a great cut.. she also give you trick and how to style or maintain your hair. the haircut came out ok- im not really wow! but i didnt hate it either..but sonya is really sweet though, the price is around 95$ for haircut- oh well, my search for my hair stylist is still not over yet. read more

as good as it gets. let's see, i live in freaking.san.fran.cisco and she cuts my hair. i make trips to nyc that revolve around my hair appointment with her. she has been cutting my hair since '08 or so. she gave me the BEST and CUTEST pixies and has helped me grow out my crazy fine and curly hair for a while now. she just gave me a keratin treatment and i am now entering the flat iron world for the first time, and she has been nothing but extraordinarily gracious at answering all my noob questions. (i have not even blow dried my hair in about 15 years, so a flat iron is a jumbo step!) she's also a fantastic colorist and is just a really nice and smart person. i lurve her!! read more

Just came back from a fantastic haircut experience with Sonya. She transformed my frizzy overgrown mop into a stylish, controlled, softly curling bob. I love it! Sonya was extremely professional and took her time consulting with me as to how we wanted to approach my haircut. The atmosphere was very relaxed and Sonya didn't even give me a hard time about my self coloring (although I'm sure she'd do a great job with the color as well.) I have hard-to-style curly hair and I've been to all the top salons. However it wasn't until I found Sonya that I was truly happy with my hair. Not only does she give me a fabulously stylish cut that suits my style and personality, but I've always been thrilled with my color and highlights. To put it simply, Sonya is the best! I have natural kinky-curly hair, and it's hard to find someone who can cut and style it well. In the past I have gone to some of the more prominent curl-expert salons in the city, and while I have been generally happy with their cuts and styling, I absolutely LOVE how Sonya cut , highlighted, and styled my hair. She gave me a cut that is incredibly flattering, lets my curls fall naturally, and is also brilliantly versatile - it's a little wild and funky, yet I can still pull it off in a professional environment at work. The highlights are also really nice, and subtle. Sonya herself is a delightful person, and she is the first stylist (in over 20 years) who has been able to style my curls better than I can myself. Her consultation for styling techniques and products was invaluable. I have spent over 20 years trying to find a great stylist and the right products for my hair. Well, I finally found all that, and hope she doesn't ever move out of NYC or stop cutting hair! Other people clearly think she's an incredible stylist as well. I went to her for the first time about 6 months ago, and have not stopped getting compliments about my hair ever since. Women literally stop me on the street or in stores to ask who does my hair. And as if all that weren't enough, her prices are about half those of the more prominent salons. read more

Sonya is fabulous! I've been going to her for several years -- it's been so long I can no longer remember exactly when. I just know that my hair looks awesome after she works her magic. And I don't mean to brag, because it's HER, not me, whom I giving credit to! I met Sonya at a shoot where she did my hair and makeup. I have incredibly thick hair, that's kinda wavy and very hard to tame. Her confidence and skill in styling my hair made me decide to go to her for a haircut, and I'm so glad that I did! Aside from the great cut--she managed to give my hair enough layers so that it's manageable without it looking poofy or choppy--my favorite part of working with her is how well she listens and works WITH you.
