I have never been to DeSerres before. I was at Future Shop and decided to drive across the large…read moreparking lot to get there. I got a two-headed Itoya calligraphy pen for $3. It is comparable to other art stores. They have Speedball and Sheaffer calligraphy pens, too. There were also some good storage containers on sale, but I don't need any! The woman cashing me out was nice, despite the wailing child who was at it for five minutes by the time I got to her. I would go back again to explore some more, but this pen should keep me busy for a bit!

It's a pretty typical Indigo store with well stocked shelves and counter. It looks like a mix of a library and museum. Also, it looks newer than the once I have been to but a little more busy.

However, I find that I am most often buying cards from here. Walk to the back, and there is a really stunning section of (Canadian made only?) greeting cards on a wall at the back. Really beautiful stuff and a rotating collection is much appreciated. When they have sales, I scoop up several at a time for toonies. Otherwise, it's the kind of place you could browse for hours, fully entertained. Or you might just walk in and buy the whole shop. Come to think of it, I haven't bought many things for myself here, but now I want to.

It totally surpassed my expectations, I was expecting a strong "Toronto gift shop" vibe but it turned out to have a unique spirit of its own. They have a very nice selection of ceramics, a crazy pipe collection, and overall well chosen home items. I ended up buying a nice striped apron. I asked the employees for help and they were super on the ball and not at all too cool to help me out, which is something I time happens a lot with trendy places in the area. My only note is that a lot of items seemed to be quite pricey, but I'm sure everything is locally and well made so I'd hope that's what warrants the hefty price tag. I will be back!

It is conveniently located across from Trinity Bellwoods, with lots of lovely coffee shops nearby. The space inside is very inviting and organized. I love the origami paper section; the papers have so many beautiful designs and patterns. I don't think they sell any regular ball ink pens here but you will find lots of colourful, thin, marker-type pens and black drawing pens.

Holiday cards. But that's it. Yet, I still yearn for and cherish all things papier. So yeah, The Paper Place? Very VERY for me. These types of stores are like dinosaurs, without the recognition that art supplies are very easily available in the much more extensive and often more affordable digital marketplace. Easy to see, but parking is dicey as it always is along this section of Bayview. As you'd guess from the name, they carry a good selection of writing implements like Lamy as well as more affordable options (but you won't find a Montblanc.) They have wrapping paper you can buy cut to measure from rolls, and many high end greeting cards you won't find elsewhere. They have a decent but not exhaustive selection of notebooks and calendars. As you also might guess, there are loads of cute decor knickknacks, toys and puzzles, and personal items like wallets and purses. The best part is the uniqueness of their items. It's a good place to find gifts. I wound up finding a great Lego Animal Crossing set for a Christmas gift. The prices are a little high, but not outrageously so. The service on my recent visit was lovely. The lady obviously enjoys working there and her good mood is infectious. She had an especially friendly attitude toward the dog ahead of me with its owner in line. I'm glad they've continued to stay open. I always look forward to going in again.

Love how everything is clearly displayed and numbered so it's simple to write down what you want and order. Staff were really friendly and helpful. They looked up an item they didn't have and told me where I could find it or get it shipped. They also gave me lots of adhesives for free when I mentioned I'm not from Canada. They also have a blind box vending machine, a trading area for opened blinds and two photobooths in the back (with the cutest frames!!). As well for the photo booths, they also have a shelf area with props and dress up items for you to use which is nice. Staff are very friendly and helpful in assisting with your purchases. It may be a bit confusing at first but there are small order sheets for the artist alley and you can mark down the artist code and their item number and the staff will grab the corresponding items for you when you cash out. Also very happy that Mr surprise has a point system for purchases because those blind boxes add up!!
