In looking towards having some work done that required a company capable of doing installations of two gas fireplaces, I looked at a company based in Bedford. Unfortunately, they could not meet the simple time frame that was partially due to poor sub-contractors as well as their own inability to have other sub-contractors to turn to. Thus I began to look elsewhere. I found Son's Chimney to be not only professional but personable. My experience was excellent. We set a plan and time schedule and it was followed perfectly. Their communication was very good and I am thrilled to recommend them to others in the area who require any sort of work for fireplaces or wood stoves or chimney repair. The pricing was very fair and transparent. They went above and beyond to correct a minor problem by a slightly challenged sub-contractor which was greatly appreciated. I spoke with Son's Chimney after having a horrible call experience with Fireside Living (see that yelp review) Matt at Son's Chimney was super helpful and nice. I had a ton of questions about what direction I wanted to a number of projects in my house. They came out service my current gas stove and gave me a window from 2p-4pm and a requested courtesy call a half hour so I didn't leave work and waste time. They were there at 2pm waiting in the driveway for me. Really nice technician named Ron. Many years ago I had a brief dealing with Sons and was very un impressed. Today we showed up at their door. They were closed but when they realized we had a quick question they opened up. We needed to replace the glass on the front of our VT casting stove. The old Sons would have tried to make money off us. They referred us to someone else. I was VERY impressed. We will think differently about using them in the future. We will be back. We heat our house with wood so a good stove shop is imperative. read more

Honestly a 1 star is way too much credit. First and foremost I have never done reviews. All i have to say is STAY AWAY! Not to get into details because it was way too long to have dealt with these people. Very unprofessional from the start with the receptionist. A nice gentleman came out and attempted to do a job that he seemed inexperience with doing, but we were optimistic and went ahead and let him finish the service. Needless to say he did not do the job right. Someone else was sent out and blamed us for faulty equipment (which the 1st guy put together) but it was fixed with again a half ass job as well. I tried to call them again to fix the issue, but unfortunately those 2 calls went unanswered. I gave up and went with someone else to fix the problem that they caused! If you want a half ass job done then Sons are your guys! read more

Had a chimney repair and cap installed. Kate at the store was great to work with. Cap company sent the wrong cap and sons dealt with it very well. Jeff- lead installer-was very professional in handling the cap problem and was great to work with throughout the whole process. Zach was also very personable and professional. Both were great about saving some bluestone from the original chimney which I'll use to make some outdoor steps. They took the time to really pick up after themselves as well. Sadly, we've been twice disappointed with the service received from Son's. For the last two years, we hired them to do our annual pellet stove servicing. The first time, they didn't put the pellet stove back together correctly, resulting in the stove not turning the pellets. Ok, everyone makes mistakes, so we tried again this year. Same worker, but this time he didn't caulk it properly and there was smoke coming from where the pipe goes into the wall. We are done with shoddy service, and won't be calling them back. read more

At a routine chimney inspection/cleaning, I was told the chimney cap needed some minor repair work--some mortar was starting to crack, nothing major, but they couldn't do it that day. I asked them to try so I wouldn't incur another trip charge and was told they don't charge trip charges. The estimate I got for the minor repair was in the hundreds of dollars. I was hesitant, but had used them before without a major problem. The repairperson didn't show up at the appointed hour, but called late in the day to say they'd gotten busy, and would have to reschedule when they had time. They never called back, and neither did I. I hope to find a more reasonably priced and reliable chinmey service. read more

I had two chimneys cleaned, one had significant creosote glazing and required rotary brushing as well as temporary removal of a large bluestone chimney cap while the cleaning was being done. The smaller chimney was fine with manual brush cleaning. The cleaner and his assistant were on time, very polite, and thoroughly cleaned the chimneys and two wood stoves, including taking out/inspecting the catalyst bricks and making sure they were clean and in good condition. They also took off the stove pipes, took them outside and cleaned them, and then vacuumed out the basement clean-outs. I asked a lot of questions because one of the stoves was having some draft problems this past winter. I feel they really understood what I was asking and they answered my questions patiently and completely. It was suggested that I use a creosote burning spray to minimize build-up. My chimneys are good to go for another year of wood burning, and I am assured that they are both safe and sound, thanks to the excellent work by Son's Chimney. I would recommend them and use them again. read more
