I just happened to be reading the reviews and I must say I have had the most incredible experience with Dr Datta and Danielle PA. They literally saved my life back in 2017 and 2018. I had had 3 cervical fusions with another doctor prior to going to Sonoran Spine. I was living in extreme pain and found out that doctor's fusions had failed. Dr Datta was kind enough to take me on and did a revision surgery in 2017 on C4/5 and a year later 2018 revision on C6/7. I finally had relief from the ex reciting pain I was in from the previous surgeon. I feel like they gave me my life back! read more

I want to thank Sonoran Spine Specialists for changing my life. I made an appointment not wanting meds or surgery. I completed my physical therapy and spinal injections but after all I decided surgery waws the best thing to do. Each and every visit I felt respected and listed to by all staff and doctors. The care I received from the first consultation through surgery in December 2024 was phenomenal and have happily referred a few people to get the same care and concern. Have had 2 successful spinal surgeries from this provider, Dr, Michael Chang, a few years later I have a new concern. Made appointment for new evaluation. I completed all required "check-in" paperwork ahead of time, online. Upon arrival, receptionist confirmed my information as accurate. Confirmed that I had submitted all paperwork, She handed me a thick stack of "new patient paperwork" to complete. I reminded her that I had completed all as requested, on-line. Her response "That is HonorHealth, we require our own paperwork." I commented that it is the same information, she insisted, so I left the office as my time has value. I shall not return, shame because Dr. Chang is an excellent surgeon, but I'm certain I can find another with a staff that cares. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I have been a patient for almost 10 years. Working with Dr Mosallaie and his revolving door of physician assistants. Things were great the first few years. It all went south when his 2 medical assistants quit. They ran the show. They were organized and on top of everything I could list the multiple issues I've had over the years, but will only describe the most outrageous. I have a steroid allergy. It's written all over my chart. On the day of my surgical procedure I was given a red allergy bracelet stating that. I was asked 4 times about the allergy, but guess what .....I was injected with steroids anyway. It has been a month of hell for me with this steroid in my body. When I called to talk to the Dr I was told I could talk to the office manager. Hmm what? I was told it was just a small amount. No biggie. Would you say that to someone who had diabetes as you'd put them in a coma if injected with steroids. Dr finally called. Only after I threatened to report the incident. He blamed his staff. Didn't take an ounce of responsibility for it. Didn't offer anything to help me. They run the surgeries like an assembly line. In and out so fast. Even the surgery center talks how rushed it is. Right before my procedure was an elderly man. He wasn't coming out of sedation well and they still just flipped him a chair and pushed him out. I stayed as a patient for so long as I still felt the Dr could do the procedures well and I worked through other issues, but the incompetence of injecting someone wearing a red allergy bracelet is too much. Do better. Take responsibility. Slow down! read more

This man hurt me during an independent medical exam. He sounds so nice but when I called him out putting words in my mouth, after he said 3 times that my fingers were numb & each time I said no. They weren't. I also made a comment about how lightly he was touching me. He was not happy about it. He then came back over to me and pushed my arms down while saying if he did this, pushed my arms down forcefully he would injure me, & he sure did. This is on video. I have had great service at Sonoran Spine. After crushing a vertebrae, Dr Mossalie performed Kyphoplasty and I was able to walk without a brace. Now am undergoing ablation surgery to help with the back pain. Pretty amazing considering that I was flat on my back last October. Great doctor. read more

According to the Sonoran Spine website, they are a referal center, and want each patient to have all of their questions answered. But when the patient is never seen by the Orthopedist, how is this possible? I would like a trained professional to explain why, under any circumstance, a new patient would not be seen and assessed by the orthopedic surgeon (aka doctor) on their case. A physician's assistant is not trained to diagnose complex issues in the same way that an orthopedic doctor is. According to Sonoran Spine, their Orthopedic Surgeons do not need to see the patient in person unless they are a strong candidate for surgery. So, who looks at the body? Who assesses the spine, in relation to the rest of the body, the organs, and the undue pressure put on the pelvis from a crumbling spine? Who watches the patient breathe, with the eyes of a trained surgeon, to make sure the body is in harmony with itself. The evidence I have observed is that Sonoran Spine's top priority is increasing its margin of income. Should a patient become a casualty of the system, so be in. Especially, if the patient is elderly. read more

Dr. Crandall is the most unethical, disingenuous and worst surgeon in Arizona. My review is 100% transparent, as I'm a patient of Dr. Crandall and he performed lower lumbar fusion on me. His bedside manner's are atrocious, moreover in my personal opinion having been operated on by him his technical skills are nonexistent. He flat out refuses to take the time required to sit with patients and listen to their needs he's too busy and concerned and worried about getting to the new patient in order to get them into an operating room to make money. I just went in to see him an hour ago after having fallen off a horse last week. I waited in his waiting room for an hour and a half before they called me back. I waited another 20 minutes, that's when his assistant came in and took me for x-rays. I saw Dr. Crandall when I was being taken into the x-ray room, and then minutes later his assistant came in the room and stated Dr. Crandall will not see me. There was no genuine medical reason given, other than to say "he cannot help me". How can a doctor say he cannot help me when he never stepped in to take a look at me, he also acknowledged he would not look at the x-rays. What kind of back surgeon puts you on the schedule, takes your money, makes you wait an hour and a half, takes an x-ray and then doesn't look at it and won't see you? In my opinion as the patient that is not how you treat people, it's not how you treat your patients, lastly he has no business being a licensed orthopedic surgeon in the state of Arizona or any other state. Please please please do your homework read the reviews, do research, look at the internet, the Arizona board of medical examiners website, his license, Arizona superior court docket, how many times he's been sued... Do not allow Dr. Crandall to perform surgery on you you will regret it. I hope this review hopes you make a better decision than I did. read more

The worst I would not recommend this office to anyone in pain. After over a month I called them to see about my husbands appointment for an Epidural shot to ease the pain he was having. They said they were still waiting for blood thinner info from his cardiologist. I feel they should have at least called him to let him know this sooner so he could contact his cardiologist and get that info sent to them. They do not care about my husbands pain and he will not risk getting any shots from an office that has no sensitivity for its patients. thank you Thomas B. read more

My husband had seen a pain Dr for his back issues that continued to get worse, over 5 weeks. He went to Sonoran Spine for his first appointment and Vanessa Lo, Pa saw him, she looked at his MRI and admitted him directly to the hospita. They found in addition to his back problems that there was a mass at his L4 which turned out to be cancer. Dr. Waldrop, in their practice, is one of only eight Drs. In the US which does the type of surgery my husband needed. I know that Vanessa and Dr Waldrop have saved my husbands life. We are so grateful for such great care. read more

Sonoran spine. This has been an absolute waste of my time. I am unable to work due to sciatic pain and lower back pain. I feel that my time has been wasted with my past 4-5 appointments, all to here that my "solution" surgery is approx 4 weeks out. So what am I supposed to do for the next for weeks? This is not a surgery mill as expressed in reviews below. I have seen Dr. Young and wish he was able to do surgery to relieve my severe pain in both legs. I hurt so bad and I would be willing to do anything for relief, but surgery to fix my problem is not an option. Dr. Young is so patient, he took time out to listen to my concerns when most doctors try to push you out the door. I was given medication for pain relief other than Tylenol or Advil. I had a very successful lower back surgery by Dr. Candall in 2015 so I thought to head back to have them take a look at my neck. I work full time, I do not take pills and I love to get out and try to be as active as possible. However, over the last year, with significant consistant pain in my neck/left trap area, loss of some mobility and sometimes sharp pain, I thought I'd have another positive outcome. I was referred for pain management, Dr. Mosallaie. My first two appointments, I was able to meet with my surgeon's PA who guided the initial approach to the epidural, which helped a small bit. I met Candall's PA again for the second approach to an actual temporary block and it was the perfect solution. When I was at the 2nd appointment time with Dr. Mosallaie, he questioned why I went to my surgeon's PA for follow up instead of him. So as a follow up to the second procedure I visited him instead. I told him the second was amazing and gave me much relief. He scheduled a second block appointment, when he evidently added another level instead of confirming the second block was the best. The second block did not prove at all helpful, in fact I noted to him that it actually negatively impacted the positive results from the first block. He said that he knew what to do, scheduled me for an oblation and did exactly what hurt me the most, he oblated the one extra level that was not involved in the first block and hurt so much in the second block, as I had told him at the follow up. I thought maybe it was just a matter of healing time. It is not. It is horrible, I hurts all the time, it feels like I am carrying a yoke across my neck and shoulders, I cannot sleep comfortably at all. Each day by mid day, it hurts to even hold my head up. I dont understand why this happened, he seems like a nice man but he did not listen at all and unfortunately I genuinely thought he was. It's difficult when doctors do not fully explain procedures, make sure their goal aligns with the patient's and work for the best outcome based on the information that is conveyed to them - without the doctor filter that makes them think they know how you feel vs trusting the patient knowing their body and what they know they feel. This pain on top of being confined to our house for CV-19, I should have trusted my gut on this one. I will change the review if a resolve is found and Dr. Mosallaie is able to solve the issue. I highly recommend Dr. Crandall, a great surgeon and a great surgical team. But as of now, not the place to go for pain management. read more

Laura Rawson is one of the best medical assistance I personally have ever done business with. I have had awesome customer service through Laura. If you ever need to be taking care of by one of the best you would be wise to use Laura. She is always quick to respond and return phone calls when trying to schedule appointments. One of the most pleasurable things about Laura is that she is always in a good mood, full of energy and represents the organization well. I quess that I miss judge this group, now I know why they are 2.5 star rating, I have live with a spine problems for over 40 yrs and have had everything done under the SUN to help with the pain. I have shots, nerve burn, electric & pain patches which has only provided little or no good results. I finally had surgery on my lower back which was great results, it became the strongest point of my spine with 100% positive results. But knowing that I have degenerated disk problem in my entire spine I would be having additional surgery. I had my neck complete rebuild in two different surgery, in short I have had both knees, both shoulder done so I have tried everything before surgery, but in results is surgery. It took me almost two month's to see this doctor, (had to VA approval) to see this group, day of the appointment the Doctor came in and ask me what was wrong with me, this was a shock to me as he had all my VA MEDICAL RECORDS and told that I needed more surgery that's was I was send to them. When he had no quess why I was there and told me that my age (68) that I was to old for HIM TO DO SURGERY, I told him that I was wasting his time and most important he was wasting me time. Sonoran Spine is everything BUT patient orientated. While it is understood that surgeons and even their staff are busy; one would think that calls could be returned. That a doctor would care about debilitating pain, the inability walk, use the restroom or even shower. What about the pain that has increased since surgery was performed? None of these things seem to matter to the staff at Sonoran Spine. My husband is in more pain now than before surgery was performed. Days have turned into weeks and weeks into months, and yet no resolution. Not even a phone call that was promised by the close of business today. He was told there is a large mass of fluid buildup in his back between the skin and vertebrae that needs to be address. 2 weeks and counting and nothing heard from any type of Dr, MA, PA....just crickets....despite him calling every day to try and get an update. To say that this business has affected our entire families well being would be an understatement; the physical and mental anguish from lack of care resonates within our home LOUDLY. read more

I had RFA done last summer with Sonoran Spine. The doctor was great and all went well. Trying to repeat the process this spring was the most frustrating endeavor. The doctor again is good, it is the office staff that is seriously lacking. I tried calling for over 3 weeks to get the procedure scheduled and 90% of the time got nothing but voicemail. I did manage to get through 2 times and leave a message with an actual person for Mercedes (the procedure scheduler) to call me back about scheduling. She never did. I received a notice in the mail that the procedure was approved by my insurance 3 weeks prior and I had not received a call. I actually drove the 30 minutes to the office and asked to speak with Mercedes in person to get the procedure scheduled. She made me wait in the office for a good 15 minutes before coming out and rudely telling me that while the procedure was approved 3 weeks prior, their tax ID had changed and it would need to be sent back in for re-approval. She did not apologize for not returning the calls or scheduling sooner. She was extremely rude and treated me like it was somehow my fault she could not do her job. I have never been treated so poorly before. I promptly took my business elsewhere to Desert Pain Institute and have been treated much better. I would not waste my time trying to deal with a most incompetent and rude office staff I have ever encountered. Go elsewhere if you want to actually get help. read more

My husband has had back issues for over 20 years and we were hoping we could get some good solid answers from this place. After 2 visits an MRI and treatments suggestions from the PA, we cannot get a phone call back from these folks. They said nerve ablation was the next step but when I wanted to know cost, recover times, when we can schedule it, etc, after calling them 3 times and leaving 3 messages, still no call back. Finally went on the contact us page on their site and it got someones attention and they had someone call me from a different office who said there was no such info in his chart and that physical therapy was recommended. So after spending $620+ we are back to square one and still no call back from the PA he met with. Instead we were told he would need to meet with the pain management person for yet another fee of over $100 before they could discuss treatment options. This place is a joke. read more

. I am a former patient of Sonoran Spine and had two spinal injections done by them. The first injection had no affect and was a failure. I then contacted my former provider, and had them send me the description of the successful procedure they performed on my back 9/2015. That procedure was effective for over 6 months. I brought the description of the successful procedure to Sonoran Spine on my next visit and asked them if they could replicate the procedure. I was assured they could replicate it, so I went ahead and scheduled it. When Sonoran Spine performed the injections they promised they could replicate, it again had no effect and I was still in pain. I then went back to my former provider and had them do the same procedure they performed two years and it was successful. I no longer have any back pain. So either Sonoran Spine did not replicate the procedure I brought them a written description of, or else the technique was flawed in that it did not work. read more

This is a great practice! All of the staff are very kind and attentive! I was seen within 10 minutes of my appointment, which is practically unheard of for a specialty practice. During my MRI, the technician talked to me about all sorts of fun things and noticed that my birthday had just passed, so she wrote me a little note on my MRI CD! The Staff for Sonoran Spine are rude and unprofessional to say the least. I was treated one time by their Doctor who was very good but the practice charges patients on insurance more than 300% than other pain management practices in the valley. I would never recommend them to anyone and by the lousy staff I'm pretty sure the partnership amongst the physicians will dissolve quickly. I have witnessed this before in the pain management arena. Lousy staff equals lost patients and word of mouth kills off the business, the partners don't make the killing off of patients and insurance companies and the physicians leave due to lack of expected profits. Can't wait until Sonoran Spine has folded and the staff goes to a minimum wage job in the healthcare arena due to their poor people skills. read more

The entire staff at Sonoran Spine Center and especially my surgeon, Dr. Jason Datta, have been beyond remarkable in my nine year battle with degenerative disk disease. Less than a week ago, I underwent my second spinal operation. I was extremely nervous this second time around because it involved full removal of my prior fusion hardware and a new double fusion replacement, with added hardware. The morning after my six hour surgery, I was able to get in and out of bed on my own AND even walk a few feet with little to no assistance! (Very slowly, of course) Dr. Datta drastically improved my quality of life eight years ago, after performing my first double spinal fusion. I have been able to work out daily since, until recently when my spinal degeneration called for a second surgery. I am quite positive this second surgery will produce even better results than my first and feel honored to have the Sonoran Spine Center and Dr. Datta on my team to a much better, pain free way of life!! read more

Please, Please, do your research. Sonoran Spine is a surgery mill designed to get money. Look up the AZ Medical Board. Sonoran Spine was sued for malpractice when people died during surgery. I was told that Spinal Fusion would be successful 70% of the time, in truth it is 40%. Not only that, I was told that Crandall was successful 90% of the time. Since my surgery, I have not been allowed to see Dr. Crandall once. My surgery has failed and I was told by his attendants that I probably need another to fix the first one. read more

I waited two months to see the pain specialist. I get there and they don't even have my right chart so they are putting in some other persons information in my chart and I told them all their information was wrong and they didn't even care, they just went and got the right stuff. Very unpleasant doctor who came highly recommended, didn't seem to care at all. Wasn't even interested in trying to figure out what could be wrong or trying something else. Just told me there was nothing he could do. Very rude demeanor. I will never go back and will make sure everyone knows how awful the doctor was and how unorganized the staff was. read more

Awful customer service!!! I was the first customer in the building because the appointment was at 8:15 and they said to come 30 minutes early. So I did, and needed a wheelchair so they said just to call when I got there and they would bring one. But they don't open till 8. So there I was at 7:45 with no one answering and having to walk while being unstable and in pain. Luckily they let me in early, 8 to 8:30, 7 ladies were talking about their personal life upfront, while my appointment was at 8:15. The front ladies are rude and I noticed as people started walking in they were rude to others too. Nice to know it wasn't just me. read more

DO NOT GO HERE, especially Tempe. I went to Sonoran Spine for a lower back problem, chose the one in Gilbert since it was close to home. I had two appts, one before and one after an MRI they sent me out to get, cool $35 copays per visit. I got some meds that don't help, but the doc says the MRI did find some stuff. Here's where it got sketchy. The doctor tells me I have bulging disks then refers me to a doctor that works at the Tempe Sonoran Spine to do an evaluation to see if I'm a "good candidate" for injections. So another two weeks and $35 copay later, I'm at the Tempe location where they have me change into a gown (didn't have to do that in Gilbert, and wait nearly 45 mins in a waiting room for the doc. I think his name was Mosul or something. I can literally hear him chatting with another coworker about some unimportant billing thing for 15 mins before he entered the room. He comes in the room and proceeds to do all the same stuff and ask the same questions that they did in Gilbert. So after this repetitive nonsense that I know is all in my notes anyway, he tells me the exact same thing the last doc said. I end up getting 2/3 injections ($150 copay at a different facility) and they of course don't work, read the other reviews, but then they bill me for an additional $15 because apparently this doctor is considered a "specialist". I've paid $270 plus the $120 for the MRI, my back still hurts like crazy and here's the kicker, it's mandatory that I go to another follow up, another $50, for him to approve me for the 3rd injection, THAT I ALREADY PAID FOR. Well Sonoran Spine, keep the damn injection and your phoney specialists, it's all fraud. Go to a real doctor, at a hospital... or just suffer through the pain because the everybody is looking to get that insurance money. read more

It's amazing what customer service can do...I got a call from Jan this afternoon to follow up on my post on this site. With sincere curiosity and a desire to fix the problem, Jan asked me pointed questions to understand the the challenges I experienced. I appreciated her effort to reach out to me, and believe she has the information needed to address the problem. As I read my review, I feel obliged now to point out that it was never a people issue, but more a process issue. After going in to Sonoran Spine in Tempe for a lower back examination, I had started to have several severe back spasms in their office which dropped me to the floor. With the caring help of Kathy the MRI tech, Susan the RN, Kellie the MA, Don the PA and especially Laura the Back Office Manager's help, these folks took me at a time when I was the most vulnerable and in awful pain and helped me in the most caring way I have ever seen a group of people do. They went way above their pay grade to make sure I was to as close to 100% as I could have been before I left their office. Thanks!! read more

I was referred to Sonoran Spine to see Dr. Mosallaie for my lower back pain. As soon as I walked into the office, I quickly noticed that the front office staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. After I saw the doctor, he said that he had to do two procedures at the surgical center, both of which required injecting local anesthetic before doing the epidural steroid shot. When I asked him why he needed to do two procedures only using local anesthetic rather than the steroid shot, he said that my insurance will not cover the epidural steroid shots prior to the results of the first two procedures using only local anesthetic; I definitely believe this is a scam to charge my insurance and then bill me for it. When I went to the surgery center, they were rude and treated me as though I was a burden to them. The front desk lady threw my credit card at me and said, "stand back". When I was brought back to get the procedure done, Dr. Mosallaie did not explain any aspects of the procedure and was aggressive. The bedside manner was awful. He and his staff were discussing cars, the amount of money they spend on gas and all other personal matters rather than focusing on the procedure being done on my back. After I was released, my pain was significantly worse. I called the next day to speak to the doctor regarding my pain. I was only able to leave a message for his nurse. No one returned my phone call so I called the next day again, only to leave another message. The third day after the procedure, a staff member finally called me and as I asked to speak to the doctor about my pain getting a lot worse, she said "He won't talk to patients on the phone and if you have any concerns you need to come to the office and see him." As a healthcare provider myself, I do not recommend this office and this doctor to anyone. This office and doctor will definitely waste your time and money. Do yourself a favor and do NOT go there. I went to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion for my pain. I am happy to say that I am significantly relieved of my pain and am confident with my choice of continuing my care with another physician at Mayo Clinic. read more
