Riding nerdy! I booked a tour for a group of seven friends for my husband's birthday last weekend. Hunt and Yuni were super helpful while working with me to organize my large group. They even rented an extra Segway to accommodate us (they only had 6 available). Our guide, Gerardo, was friendly, funny and very informative. I was born and raised in Sonoma, but I still learned new facts about the town's history from him! Learning to ride the Segway was a little scary for me, but I got the hang of it within 5 minutes. My sense of balance was definitely thrown off at first, but by the end of the tour the Segway felt like a natural extension of my body. Everyone else had an easy time riding, and dare I say, tested the limits a bit (thanks Gerardo for putting up with our silly group!). We were able to go to two wineries on this tour, Buena Vista and Bartholomew. Gerardo gave us two for one tasting coupons for Buena Vista, which was awesome. Wine is always great, but the cheese tasting at Vella's was the highlight of the trip for me. You get a full tour of the cheese making process in a facility where everything is done by hand. The cheese platters we had were amazingly delicious. I ended up purchasing Toma, Dry Jack and a Smoky Bleu. So good! Nothing like rolling around Sonoma on a gorgeous summer day with a slight buzz and a belly full of cheese! To sum up the experience, yes, you will feel like an absolute dork while riding a Segway. Yes, the locals will stop and stare, wave, and laugh while you go by but the tour is so much fun, none of this will bother you. Our group actually felt like we were spreading cheer throughout Sonoma because everyone was getting such a kick of seeing us ride by. We had a stellar time for our 18th Wedding Anniversary. On this trip we decided to bring our teenagers 13 and 16 yrs old. I've done the Segway tour with Hunt for a corporate event a few years back. And have been telling my wife and kids about it ever since. So this year instead of doing the spa day, decided to change it up a bit. We had a stellar stellar day. Sooo much fun on Segways. My kids picked it up right away and my wife who is catastrophe prone and very nervous to get on a Segway was gliding around within min like a pro. So anyone nervous about getting on a Segway should know. It's extremely intuitive and simple to learn. There are risks. But those that are typically due to user error. Hunt spoke often about the imaginary bubble of space you need to create around you when riding next to others. Bump into another Segway or a curb can result in a not so fun moment. But I can say we felt safe the entire trip, never made any mistakes with our bubbles, and had the best time ever. Thank you Emily another guide on the tour as well did a great job!! Hunt provides so many great stories about the history and culture of Sonoma and of the wineries and cheese factory you visit, it is not only fun but very educational for all. I don't want to give it all away but I will say even for a 2nd visit for on the same wine tour was money well spent and a great time had by my family. I was surprised at how much work goes into manipulating a Segway. Riders always looked so dorky to me in the past, but I have a newfound appreciation for the art of Segway-wrangling. Hunt (our guide) was extremely patient as he taught my parents, sister, and I to roll forward, back, and sideways without crashing. I had such a great time being a dork and waving at all of the locals. The tour lasted 5 hours altogether. We went to 2 wineries and Vella Cheese. Hunt personalized our tour to our unique interests and knew the answers to all of our questions (unlike some tours we have been on in NorCal). The cheese tasting was the best. Hunt has an inside connection, so we got to see the back areas where the cheese is made and aged. He was also great at posing the four of us in memorable places to take photos - much better than trying to take pictures from a Segway. The only warning I will give is that Segway riding can be hard on your back. You have to bend your knees over every bump and ripple in the pavement or a painful jolt will shoot up your spine. Also, there are limited places to sit during the tour. It is definitely doable, but you should schedule time for a rest afterwards - don't count on charging ahead to the next activity immediately. read more

RUN, do NOT walk to your computer and book this tour. Not only was Hunt extremely knowledgeable on wine BUT ALSO BEER and it's history in California. My husband and I were celebrating our 25 year anniversary and this tour was our favorite part. We learned so much more than we would have on our own. (its clear that all the staff at the wineries know him and trust him with the rich stories and journeys the families have taken, Hunt's a true local.) A friend from Oregon had told me that I must-do this tour... I was on the fence, but did it purely on her recommendation. I AM SO GLAD I DID IT! Seriously folks, if you want an outdoorsy journey on a fun segway smelling the eucalyptus trees, biting wild blackberries off the vines (and a wine grape or two) - look no further. The cheese factory was a surprise as well - old school - had to take some home. At all times of the tour, I never felt rushed or that our guide wished he was somewhere else. The girl serving us in the tasting room was really cool and did a great job of making us feel welcome. Our second stop was the Barthalomew Park Winery. The grounds were beautiful and our picnic lunch was great. The wine was just ok and the woman in the tasting room wasn't as good at her job as the girl at Buena Vista, but it didn't kill the good time we were having, so no big deal. He took us to two beautiful wineries and a local cheese shop. He knew everyone everywhere and the wineries let him give us a tour of their private wine making spaces. We rode for miles along beautiful streets with unbelievable scenic views. He genuinely cares about meeting the interests of tourists and will customize the tour for you. Friends were visiting from out of town who know wine country really well so we suggested a completely different way of seeing and enjoying it. We were not disappointed. The day exceeded our expectations. First, riding around backstreets and country roads in and around Sonoma on a Segway is a blast. Second, there are really nice homes, vineyards and vistas to see and enjoy. Third, the owner, Hunt, is a consummate host and tour guide plus he got our novices up and running confidently on their Segways in very short order. He proceeded to take us on a thoughtfully designed and unhurried visit to two great local wineries and the Vella artisanal cheese factory which was a real highlight for our group. When we arrived at the second winery, a table was set for our group with a table cloth and we enjoyed a nice sandwich platter, cookies and, of course, grapes. Hunt is an entertaining and informative guide who grew up in Sonoma, knows everyone, has special access to parts of the wineries and the cheese factory that really add to the overall experience and was no stranger to the staff at each stop who greeted him warmly. After meeting near the main square in Sonoma at 10, we returned about 4 with great memories along with plenty of great wine and cheese acquired at good prices during the day. 5 out of 5 stars for Sonoma Segway. What a fun experience! I was in Sonoma for a girls weekend with some family and I'm so glad we decided to do this tour. Hunt made the entire experience fun and memorable. We all swore that we would never look at a Segway as dorky again. He taught us all how to ride and I felt that he taught us very well. He was funny, personable, and knowledgeable. He was also flexible when the group decided that we would rather do more riding than wine tasting. Though I have to say, the first tasting was really cool. He took us to a few historical sites and to the Cheese Factory, all of which he had extensive knowledge on.
