Since I've been trying to limit trips out of the home, I've found that its fresh vegetables I run out of most quickly. So getting a weekly box has been perfect. I also ordered a month's supply of frozen meat and it's a huge amount, with beef, pork, and chicken. I actually started using Our Harvest Cooperative maybe 3 years ago but stopped for a time because pick up wasn't fitting in my schedule. I'm really glad to be back at it. The vegetables are always fresh, with a thoughtful variety too - rotating zucchini and tomatoes right now so we don't get bored of just one thing. They also give us basil, chives, parsley, so that also helps with recipes and staying out of the store. Lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to the staff and volunteers with Our Harvest - one more than one occasion they've reached out to me to make something more convenient for me if there was a hiccup. I have also visited the farm and I was given a tour and felt like they were excited I was there, rather than a nuisance. I definitely recommend this community supported agriculture, or CSA organization.

It's hard to believe this peaceful farm exists less than a half hour from downtown Cincy! Gretchen runs the farm and is always so kind and patient! I don't have a farming bone in my body, but Gretchen has taught me so much already! By the end of the season, with her help, I'll be a pro! The farm also occasionally holds various events like classes, festivals, weed dating (yup!), and dinners. It's a great space! The farm stand just opened for the season and you can check it out Fri 6-8, Sat/Sun 10-2. Oh! And the Garlic Festival is this June! Be sure to come down for that! See you on the farm :)

In under an hour, I picked over 12 pounds of strawberries, giving me 16+ half pints of strawberry jam. Every time I had a question, either over the phone or in person, they were more than kind. Their service is super friendly and always with a smile (even when it's freezing cold out and they're sitting in a truck to work with the u-pick hours). If ever you're looking for a place to pick your own berries, I highly recommend Schaefer's!

I am a farm share subscriber with this somewhat new farm. The produce really is as good as it…read moregets. Right now, this farm is selling only to restaurants and to CSA (community supported agriculture) subscribers but if you either encounter their produce at a restaurant or have the chance to buy a share for the season, you will be in for a treat. With CSA shares, you don't pick what you get. Seasonal vegetables rotate and yes, sometimes you get a ton of cabbage or kale or whatever. However, when the vegetables are this fresh, it is easy to make them last because its amazing how long lettuce will stay fresh when it wasn't already sitting in a transport truck and a grocery shelf for a week or two. Even delicate vegetables like garlic ramps are still on my recipe list 2 weeks after delivery (and proper storage) because they were so fresh to begin with. Some vegetables work well for pickling or other preservation methods like making kimchi. The vegetables are as fresh as you can ask for, delivered to your door as scheduled. With recipe suggestions emailed the day before. This is organic farming with many heirloom seeds and some veggies won't look just like "normal" but that doesn't mean they aren't even better tasting than normal. I've tried fresh lettuce and kale and turnips that I have never heard of before but that have won the taste contest from store bought.

They also have great fruit in season and fresh eggs, delicious baked goods and more. Today I made a delicious skilletmeal using cabbage and Kale from Doves Landing. I also sautéed onion, browned ground beef and added quinoa that I had cooked in my instant pot. This can be done with lots of different vegetables from Dove's Landing and meats of your choice.

I'm delighted to be able to say I have an 11-year history with New Roots and I see every year how gutsy and passionate and impactful this little operation is. The chieftain, Karyn, is a one-person wrecking crew who has a knack for finding a way to keep this thing going, but she's also learned to recruit a great band of impassioned acolytes to keep the cause afloat. In short, New Roots connects local farmers to lower income communities, the sort that the Krogers don't want to serve, and they promote and subsidize healthy eating throughout the entire growing season. New Roots has grown and flourished, survived a pandemic, and has served the underserved dating back to the time when Louisville had just a couple of small farmer's markets. Me? Yeah, I've given a lot of time and a little money to the cause, but that's only a small thing compared to all the great fresh veggies and tremendous community engagement I've enjoyed in return. Not only did they rob me of my neck and giblets and cut out a chunk of the turkey, most real farms include herbs from their garden for brining. This heritage turkey had absolutely no flavor of game to convince me it was raised wild. I have prepared and roasted goose, duck, and wild turkey for over 20 years for my family, and this farm is not authentic. They are a mass prouder that can't keep their facilities straight enough for quality control! Hello Via, Thanks for your message, I am thinking you are not finding the bag of giblets in your turkey? We use a local USDA butcher to process all of our meats, and he packages the giblets and neck from each turkey and then adds them back into the cavity. The package can be difficult to reach and you may have to try from both ends of the turkey. You will also need to wait until the turkey is completely thawed to reach the pack as it will be frozen and stuck inside. We have never encountered a situation where the neck and giblets are missing, but it is not impossible, as each turkey is handled by a person, not machines. We hosted our 25th wedding anniversary at Teter in July of 2023. We rented the entire complex for…read morethe weekend, including the 4 cabin spaces, the lodge and the pavilion. Friends and family dropped by to enjoy the gathering, food and games. Kids were free to roam and play, and adults were free to reminisce and renew connections. It was a beautiful and rich time for us, and the site was perfect. My nephews rented the cabins, we were able to spend time with their wives all the grand nephews as well. The lodge worked well for serving food and for after hours relaxation.

I Love being a CSA member here! Every time I pick up my vegetables, I see the volunteers that help…read morestaff the farm, and I see how much my membership supports. The farms primary mission is to help fight food insecurity in Hamilton County and to provide nutrient rich organic vegetables to our local food bank. It is primarily staffed by volunteers, and I am one of them. I see people who believe in this mission out there working their butts off to help other people they will never know. That brings a tear to my eye. The vegetables are always first class, and last much longer than anything you can buy in local stores. I know where they are grown, I can walk among the fields and touch the carrot tops, I can smile at the chickens. They have gorgeous flowers starting this year that are part of the CSA membership. Get your veggies, get some flowers for your table. They have honey also, with a beekeeper who is dedicated to helping the farms mission. Too often when we think of what we receive, we judge it by its value against other similar items. In this case, with the volunteers that staff most of the farm, and the mission to fight food insecurity, there are no other veggies like this in Hamilton County. When comparing to a farmers market, it helps to understand that other local farms are not helping to feed the hungry, and are also not trying to grow sustainably. Teter is. I believe you can find them at the Eaton Market these days, or you can visit their farm store just north of Eaton. Expensive, you say? Well, unlike McDonald's and Wal-Mart, Boulder Belt is not subsidized by the government. This is the cost of healthy, tasty food.
