And who doesn't love meat + cheese + bread? So when sustenance was needed on our road trip, a Yelp search for "sandwiches" led us to What A Blessing. I admit we were skeptical. The interior was small and... well... odd. It reminded me of my great-aunt Marie's farmhouse. Upon immediately walking in the door I saw that a large bakery case was empty. I almost walked out thinking the place was going out of business. However, we grabbed a table in the (small) dining room and perused the limited menu. We ordered roast beef, but they were out of it. We ordered soup, but they had none to offer. Discouragement set it, but we persevered. Finally, our subs and sandwiches arrived! They all came with a side of BBQ chips. Now... BBQ chips are my favorite, so I perked up immediately. Let me shout this: THE SUB ROLLS WERE HOMEMADE! They were delicious. Fantastic flavor. Perfect texture and crumb. The subs were piled with meat, which tasted high quality. Kid #1 swore her turkey was Boar's Head. Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't, but it was definitely quality meat. My cheesesteak was fantastic, and the Italian sub was spot-on. The burger was just average, but the delicious HOMEMADE bun made up for it. All the veggies (lettuce, tomato, etc.) on our subs seemed fresh. The owner(?) dropped some free pastries at our table, too. Sweet, tender, and tasty! I would recommend you grab a donut or two to go, too. In the area and want a sweet or a sammie? Check out What A Blessing to support a local guy and a Christian.

The food here is so on point! The service is even better if that's possible! This sweet crew takes very obvious pride and pleasure in what they do and it shows brilliantly! Freshly baked breads and delicious fresh ingredients and meats that create works of art for the stomach! But save room for the fresh baked desserts! Out of this world delicious! The best chicken salad around and the subs are so fresh and flavorful! I can't decide which is better, the kind and attentive folks that work here or the food! But one thing is for sure, you'll feel blessed by both! Can't wait to return! PS they use to provide a Saturday breakfast buffet but have stopped since covid because not enough people have returned for it to make it cost effective. I can't even get my head around this! You have no idea what you're missing! Hope the buffet returns! We will be there for it every Saturday we are able!

They're not rude, per se, but they're not not rude if that makes sense. It's just a bit jarring. Sand the edges off, ladies. Make some better eye contact and save the decibels and gossip for the bar after work.

They also offer homemade desserts and salads. The store itself is clean, with plenty of your standard gas station snacks and drinks. For our sandwiches, we ordered the #9 Virginian, #8 Humpback Bridge, and #4 Wintergreen. They were all made fresh to order and you had the option to customize certain aspects of your sandwich. We opted for the meal option, which includes a drink and chips. This was definitely a good deal considering the meal option didn't add an additional charge! It took roughly 10 minutes for all our sandwiches to be made. The Virginian included Roast Chicken Breast, Deluxe Ham, Bacon, Swiss, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, & Honey Mustard. Toasted & melted on a Bavarian Sub-Roll. The Humpback Bridge included Deluxe Ham, Turkey, Bacon, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, & Mayo. Toasted and melted on a Wheat Sub-Roll. And the Wintergreen included Smoked Turkey, Bacon, Swiss, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, & Deli Dressing (O&V). Served Cold on a Croissant. We all really enjoyed our sandwiches and found them to be very filling. They all had ample amounts of meat and cheese, with fresh vegetables. I really enjoyed the Bavarian roll on the Virginian sub! It made for the perfect dinner on our little road trip. We also ended up eating there, as they have plenty of seating outside! Overall, really great little hidden gem. We've been coming through Fishersville for years now on roadtrips and I can't believe we just discovered this place, will be returning :)

I will immediately assume that within awaits a superior Reuben, a potato salad with the peel left on, and possibly a slice of pie made the day before. Anything less, and I mean anything, is unacceptable and very well might ruin the rest of my day. But this was not that. Upon entrance I did have concerns, as it has a contemporary cafe-ish feel. The lighting, decor, etc. might initially lead one to believe they can order some bland panni and continue with their day. Do not be mistaken. This feels like the home of someone's grandma (sidenote: "Lola" is the combination of the two owner's names, Logan and Lauren) with the aroma floating through the air like a "dinner's ready" call from the front porch. There was no hesitation in my order; Reuben and potato salad. The marbled rye, corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut, with the house made dressing...oh such a work of art. The potato salad, why did I order a small portion?! It was delicious and served by some of the kindest people I have ever encountered in the food industry. If the weather permits, I highly recommend the outdoor seating. And I which I could give insight on the desserts, but alas the sandwich and salad did me in. Next time, next time for sure.
