Cleaning specialist gave me a few pointers regarding on brushing, etc. Grateful to how clean my teeth appear after a cleaning. Sonia Bautista got me for close to $5K for some horrible dentures made for my husband. They'd call and want him there ASAP for another appointment for more fittings. This went on for months. She kept finding more and more things wrong w/him and in the end wanted to crown one of his last remaining front teeth. The dentures did not match his teeth at all, not even close. They were plain awful and he rarely wore them as they did not fit properly. She did not care, she just wanted more business, more money. Another greedy dentist that doesn't know anything but DOLLAR DOLLAR DOLLAR. Her staff are a bunch of pain shills that do whatever she wants, right or wrong. They charged me for a canceled appointment that I canceled because I was sick. I told them that, but they charged me anyway. I refused to pay, so I now have an overdue payment of $127. They require a 48 hour cancelation. I didn't know that I was gonna be sick! In these post-covid days, it seems like they wouldn't want me to come into the office when I'm sick! With this dentist, you are trading a toothache for a headache. The office staff are inept and unhelpful. The front desk said "sounds like you need a root canal" after I mentioned tooth sensitivity. I had major anxiety after this until the dentist said nothing about needing a root canal. The person imaging my teeth was so bad at it that the dentist had to redo it, which is an unpleasant experience to begin with. Regardless, it is difficult to get dental care here so I had made arrangements to increase my dental coverage and get work done with it before they stopped taking it. In November, I made these arrangements with the front desk staff who assured me I would be able to get my work done before they stopped taking my insurance. When I called to make the appointment the front desk informed me that they stopped taking my insurance already (January). Now I'm out double the cost in dental insurance. My whole experience with this office was unpleasant and unprofessional. Unless you have no other option, this is a good place to avoid. read more

I do not recommend going to this dentist. I took months to book an appointment despite calling nearly everyday and sending emails. I had to wait over an hour for a scheduled appointment. They did apologize for the wait. I had to hold one of their tools (sucking device) while they did work on my teeth. They charge for everything. I have dental insurance (100% covered cleanings) and still had to pay out of pocket $5 or $10 fee for the staff to wear masks. I was charged $15 to have my dental X-rays sent to another dentist! After suffering for years with bad dentures I searched for a dentist who took their job seriously and didn't just quick fix it for another dollar. I can't say enough good things about this team of angels, starting with the front desk of president knowledge of information and doing all the leg work with insurances (I love you), the hygienists who is very nice and helpful to the doctor who is in my apinion at the top of her game. She is very precise in her procedures and knows what will and will not work for you. You may have to wait for the right fit due to her having to send off to others to complete that work. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. I will repeat, DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. REASON: I made an appointment at noon. I arrived at 11:45. Two patients arrived at the same time, telling the window they also had noon appointments. The staff brought the other patients to the treatment area and left me in the waiting room for an hour. I patiently waited. I watched the two patients check out at the front desk, both patients were NOT happy with their treatment. Now, I work in the medical field, and this is an instant Red Flag. I figured they had only two working chairs. They over-booked and just figured I would wait. Not accounting for the fact that I left work early and loss 6 hours pay (side point, not important, just to point out their inconsideration). So, I assessed my situation. Do I allow myself to brought into their treatment rooms? I saw myself as the last patient of their morning. Being in the medical field, I knew I was going to be their last task before lunch. I respect myself too much, and did not want hurried treatment as a result of disfunctional scheduling. Just imagine, if their staff is unorganized? What kind of treatment should I expect? My husband and I both have went here since she is the only one in the area that was taking new patients and takes our insurance. The dentist is really good and very caring, but her staff is a hole other thing. The one that is up front does not seem to know what she is doing. It is like she cant remember what she told you a minute before, or she will ask for your card for payment while its sitting in front of her on the desk and she will argue with you when you tell her you already handed it to her. I came in with terrific pain that I'd had for 3 days over the weekend and into Monday. I called around and couldn't get in on an emergency basis anywhere. When I called Dr Bautista's office she agreed to see me immediately. They took x-rays and she found the problem, an abcess at the tip of the root of a root canal I'd had done 15 years ago. She told me this kind of problem has to be done by a specialist, a general dentist simply is not equipped for this specialized work. She prescribed antibiotics to start killing the infection and help with the pain, and then sent a referral to an awesome doctor that agreed to see me the very next day. Her staff did everything. They made the calls, they did the paperwork, they did the faxing for me, they gave all my insurance info so that was done when I arrived. Dr Bautista could have charged me more, done more, and got me spending a lot of cash because I was in pain and desperate. She didn't. She was quick, efficient, sympathetic and expertly found the problem and got me to someone who could fix it. They saw me when the first 7 dentists I called would not, even though I was in agony. They did everything they could for me. What more could you ask? This doctor and her office (Mark!) are top notch. read more

Total shit show! It's hard to know where to begin, at every turn it was more disrespect and disregard for professional standards. As you may know, it's very hard to find any health care provider in Humboldt County, and it seems that imbalance breads an attitude with many providers that this is still The Wild West, where professionalism is as they see fit, and what works best for them at the time. Dr. Bautista's dental office is a prime example of this decayed, dysfunction, disrespectful, nightmare that is the Humboldt County health care system. I won't waste your time here with details of ridiculous wait times for appointments. You will find that at all providers here. I first made an appointment, a new patient, for a cleaning. Instead, I received an exam, a bid on repairs, and an appointment for a few more months down the line for a cleaning. Every time I went back she would act as if it was the first time she looked at my teeth, finding more things she thinks needed repair. I don't know if that was because she did not do a thorough exam in the first place or if she was selling services that were not needed. Both are unprofessional. I will be asking my new dentist about this. Every appointment was canceled and rescheduled as least once, by this office. They canceled my appointment by text message and I would have to call them to reschedule. I have never seen this before, and I'm in my 50s. Maybe in the past 50 years I have had one or two appointments changed by a doctor. For one crown they reset my appointment 6 times! No exaggeration. Every time I had to tell my boss I needed to change my time off request due to the doctor changing my appointment, he was more irritated. I would not be surprised if he started to doubt it was the doctor causing all these changes. Bottom line is my creditability at work was reduced by the inability of this dentist to keep my appointments. During the two different visits for my second crown Dr. Bautista made fun of my small teeth. What kind of doctor acts this way? My last visit to her office was for two fillings. Knowing how shifty this office was I was sure to get a quote them and pre-approval from my insurance company. I paid my part for the fillings before the work was done. When I was leaving the office they had another bill for me. I was not completely surprised, and they when on and on about how it was not covered, so I paid the bill just to be done with them. A few months later I got a reminder I had an appointment for a cleaning. I thought they should be able to pull that off without a lot of problems. A few days later I got a text that my appointment was canceled and that I NEEDED TO CALL THEM TO RESCHDULE. I guess there is no reason to think they had improved. I did not reset the appointment; I have taken all I can. About two weeks later I got a bill in the mail. They wanted $95.40 more for the fillings. I called to ask how they got the cost wrong and had to leave a voice mail. Two weeks later I got a call from someone I had never seen or talked to before trying to aggressively convince me I owed them more monies. I told her some of my experience I described above and when she was unphased by that I hung up on her. If I had stayed on the line I would have had to tell her my full level of disgust. The next day I got an email from the office manager stating I was rude "...you are therefore dismissed from this office." I'm so relived! I think this was from the guy I talked to a few times in the office who always had a mask on that looked like he had been wearing it every day, for a month. And was not tight to his face. So gross! I had hoped for over a year they would get there shit together. Why did I keep putting up with all of this, as long as I did? I've never written a review for a business, but I've created an account specifically to warn people to not come to this dentist. This was my first visit to this dentist. I showed up to my appointment on time and completed a decent amount of intake paperwork. The lady at the front took me back, had me rinse with peroxide and sat me in the chair. The dentist walked by the room and beckoned for the other woman. After the two exchanged some whispers the woman asked me if I was wearing perfume. I replied that I did spray some on before work at about 7 that morning. It was now nearly 3:00. She informed me that their office was HIGHLY sensitive to perfumes and asked if I could rinse it off. I said I could try but it was on my clothes. I work with children on a regular basis who can be sensitive to things like scents as well, so I'm very aware of how much perfume I put on in the morning, this was just a tiny amount. The woman informed me that the doctor "can't breath around perfumes" and that I could get a cleaning, but would have to come back for the dentist to do the exam. I was NEVER informed about this "no perfume" policy, nor is it anywhere on their website, intake forms, or appointment confirmation texts. She blamed it on "Mark the receptionist" and didn't seem to think it was a big deal that I was never told and would have to come back. Perhaps if I didn't have a job it wouldn't be, but taking time off work is not an easy thing for me and needs to be prearranged. I left because I'm confident I'll be able to find a better dentist than this. I'm wondering how the dentist handles any of the other smells that accompany her job? I can't imagine she's very competent if she can't handle a little perfume (also doesn't she wear a mask?) Huge waste of my time and horrible customer service. I was a patient of Dr. Bautista's for several years while I was a college student at HSU. I spent thousands of dollars out of pocket with her to do all kinds of dental work including multiple crowns. ALL of her crowns had to be redone just a few years later. They were very ill fitting and she left big gaps for decay to get underneath. She's a nice enough lady but her work is not quality. Her office was also very disorganized and I should have taken this as a sign. I wish I had seen reviews before going to see her. Very, very expensive mistake. Dr. Bautista is amazing! My husband and I have been going to her exclusively for our dental care since 2008. Great dentist and wonderful staff. I have very sensitive teeth, but have never had an issue with her or any staff making me uncomfortable. She has never hurt me once, she is very sensitive to my fears and always makes sure I am okay with whatever she is doing. I have never experienced pain from her or any of her staff. She does a great job explaining what is going on and what procedures she thinks I would benefit from. She has called me personally at home every evening after I have had a major procedure done by her (crown, tooth pulled, etc.) to make sure I am doing alright. She did the same for my husband. I've been seeing her since July 2017 and have never had any problems, infact she usually gets me in on the very same day that I call to make an appointment. Shaala the receptionist is so kind and an amazing part of the office staff here. Dr. Bautista is hilarious. Absolutely terrible, she stained one of my teeth that she filled a cavity in on, without having permission to do so, one of her techs put the x-ray over my eye on which now I have a pterygium. And when I went to have a crown put on my front tooth she would only provide color options that didn't even come close, I should have kept the temporary crown because it was a better match. I believe she did this intentionally and is completely ok with ruining a persons smile while charging them for it. When it was installed she had me arrive early in the morning when no one else was around, I image this was so that if I became upset with her work that no one would be there to witness. The only reason I allowed for this was because I was on a time constraint. I should have had it done sooner but due to work I couldn't make it happen as soon as I guess she thought I needed to and so when I did arrive to make plans on the replacement she yelled at me. He staff seems miserable and are always changing, I feel bad for them, wish I had taken my friends advice and gone somewhere else. Pretty sadistic if you ask me! I visited Dr. Bautista today and had the worst experience. I made the appointment a month ago because her practice accepts my dental insurance that I received through my employment. Her office called our phone this morning (while I was at work) to see if I could arrive half an hour earlier than scheduled. The receptionist told my boyfriend that it was because Bautista did not want to drive in the rain. It was obvious to me that she must have been in a hurry because she rushed through my entire appointment. She was rough with me. She went very fast and did not explain anything. At the end I was handed a piece of paper stating that I needed to have over $11,000 worth of work done on my teeth. The paper stated that I needed five crowns! Yet, Bautista did not explain anything to me. She did not discuss the condition of my teeth, her findings, or her reasoning for my treatment plan. I could barely make sense of the paper. It was at this point that the receptionist began to try and sell the Blue Cross HMO plan to me. I left feeling worried and confused. I wish I could put negative stars, both my sister and I had the same experience- she told me that my mouth was full of cavities- I had never had a single cavity in my entire life until I went to Dr. Bautista, then every time I went in she told me I had several cavities or cracked teeth. Unfortunately I was young and I never got a second opinion, and now the majority of my teeth have been filled. Terrible woman, cost my family thousands of dollars and ruined my teeth. I regret ever going to this dentist, please do not choose Dr. Bautista, she should have her license revoked! She drilled too deep on one of my "cavities" and I had to have a root canal (fortunately done in San Diego by the wonderful dentists at the Padre Dental Group). I had a terrible experience here. Upon my first (and only) visit, they tried to get me to open a student credit card, sell me a mouth guard and schedule a whitening. I've been going to the dentist every 6 months since I was a child and have never been told that I needed whitening or a mouth guard. The only reason I went to this person was because I am a student and had a dental "emergency" and couldn't wait to see my usual dentist back home. They never billed my insurance and charged me the full amount of my visit. I had to call them repeatedly to get them to finally call my insurance and get it all sorted out. And even after the insurance issue had been fixed, I still periodically received collections letters from them because they never took me off of the "naughty list". This business, in my opinion, takes advantage of students and is not worth the hassle. read more

Now we are switching dentists, and trying to get copies of our x-rays has been an ongoing hassle for the past 3 weeks. Shala is apparently the only person with access to email and is clueless. She informed me I needed to fill out a release form which I could expect to be emailed in one day. One week later I called to follow up as to why it wasn't received and she had no clue what I was talking about. This time she insisted that the release form must be faxed, or a simple email saying "release the xrays" would be sent instead. She sent me a blank email and then did not return my phone call. I still don't have them. Wow this is a severely incompetent group of women who seem to have no protocol or understanding of how to run a successful office. Her hygienist was clumsy and made me feel uncomfortable the whole time. Dr. Bautista told me I had 11 cavities! Which is more than I have ever had in my life, and after she filled them 2 fell out within 3 months time and one was rouge and turned a funny yellow color that did not match the natural color of my teeth. It took me over a year to pay off the bill which she convinced me to put on a credit card. My teeth did not hurt at all when I made the appointment, I simply thought I should get a checkup but now my teeth are sensitive to temperature and sugar and hurt nearly everyday. Dr. Bautista's office is chaios. I wish I could give negative stars. I should have known when I had my first appointment and the patient before me was practically yelling at Dr. Bautista about the work she had done on him. But she seemed so sweet at first, now I know it was just superficial to sucker me into her horrible office. The whole staff is under trained and have no idea what they are doing. I was never been seated on time, it always take HOURS longer than it should have, they have no idea about dental insurance.
