Yummy! What a fun spot for some delicious treats! Somisomi is a cute little cafe located in downtown Fullerton. This place is a walk up and order, and stand at a table and eat kind of place. I got lucky and there was no line when I arrived. Awesome, no wait. The employee was very friendly and helpful. He was so patient with me while I asked all of my questions to decide what I wanted. I settled on the cookies and cream flavor inside a custard fish. It was delicious. Such a fun and unique treat!
We came in on a Sunday night (03/29/26) and it was packed inside but thankfully the line moves pretty quickly. They currently have new flavors. The mint Oreo taiyaki was surprisingly tasty and the Sakura berry in my opinion was tasty. It tastes like cherry and to my friends they found it to taste medicinal. I got the cookies and cream with Sakura berry swirl which sounds like an odd combination but it's amazing together.
The flavors are it! Service was quick and it was super busy on a Friday night. Matcha & Horchata was delicious. The horchata was my favorite of the two and tasted pretty on point to an Horchata drink. They did run out of flavors so didn't get to try the seasonal ones I was looking for. It melts pretty fast so I recommend getting the ahboong upside down so it's not a whole mess. Gives you plenty of time to enjoy. They have a few standing tables inside and a few outside to enjoy with friends.
Bottom Line Up Front: Somisomi is a Korean-style dessert and ice cream shop that serves up tasty treats in a fun package. The Background: This store specializes in bungeoppang (a Korean street food that's best described as a waffle-like pastry in the shape of a fish) and ahboong (a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with sweet fillings and topped with soft-serve ice cream). Somisomi also serves a third variation with thr ahboong upside down, meaning the open-mouth fish is the topper on a cup of soft-serve ice cream. My Order: I got two upside down ahboong with soft-serve swirls: 1) banana pudding and horchata and 2) matcha and ube. For the former, I added Biscoff crumbs and Cocoa Pebbles. For the latter, I added just Biscoff crumbs. Both came with a custard-filled ahboong. I loved both for different reasons. The authentic bitter matcha and creamy sweet ube provided a yin-yang balance of Asian flavors. Meanwhile, the banana pudding and horchata swirl also complemented each other nicely in the way that banana rice pudding works. And if course the custard-filled ahboong was delicious. The Service: The employees were quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Location: Being in Downtown Fullerton, you can expect difficulty finding nearby parking at peak hours. It's located in the same building as the Cellar. And thanks to a societal shift after the pandemic, there's a lot more vagrants and homeless to contend with in the area. While this particular shop is still safe to visit, it's worth mentioning, since you might have to park a ways away and walk there. The Setting: Once inside, everything is brightly lit and clean with a welcoming and fun atmosphere. I do have to dock some marks though for the lack of tables and chairs, which I suppose is to discourage long hangouts and instead increase traffic flow. There are just slim countertops that you stand in front of. I'm also not a fan of the countertop layout, which is horseshoe shaped that impedes the flow of walk-up traffic to the front register where you order. The awkward setup forces you to squeeze past anyone who's standing at the countertops and results in wasted space. The Conclusion: Despite the poor layout and limited nearby parking spots, the novelty and flavors of the desserts make Somisomi worth the visit. My true rating is 4.5 out of 5, but since I can't give half stars, I'll be generous and round up to 5 out of 5.
We tried Korean ice cream at Somisomi. My friend has young adult kids who showed her this lovely ice cream place in downtown Fullerton on Harbor Blvd. We were there on a weekday. There was one couple waiting for their ice cream ahead of us. This is not your typical ice cream parlor. Ex explanations were necessary for me to understand what I was ordering. You can get ice cream served several ways. I opted for one scoop ubu in a paper cup with Captain crunch powder and ground black sesame seed inside my waffle cone fish. My friend got chai ice cream with toasted coconut and a strawberry. We were both very happy with our choices. Diana was telling me that she has never been here when there was not a crowd of people. She says mostly young people are here which makes sense considering how close we are to a few colleges. There is outdoor sitting for people watching. And mini cute little stores in this area.
The line was super long to get rung up, and the wait for the food to be made was also long. All the employees were working very hard, so much so that Zoe at the register had to stop taking orders and help making food. The staff was fantastic but they needed one more person or maybe another waffle iron. Zoe was very friendly taking our order and helpful to the other associates. We got the Dubai chocolate taiyaki which had great flavor but I think it needed more of the filling. Maybe it was a little empty and not as aesthetically pleasing because they were rushing.
Stopped by for some dessert with friends after doing an escape room around the area. We ended up coming here because it was one of the places still open late. I ended up getting a one scoop of the banana pudding flavor, which is limited addition for the season. I ended up cutting the macaron which was included and fruity pebbles to top it off. I also got the box of five yakitori fish! I ended up getting one of each flavor which included black sesame, custard, red bean, Matcha, and cheese. Honestly, everything came out pretty quickly, which was really nice. One thing to know about the ambience is that the inside of the store was super hot and stuffy. So it was nice to sit outside and enjoy our dessert. Overall, everything tasted good and the portion is a lot larger than you would think so. I would definitely share one cup with two people, personally. Can't wait to see what new flavors they have next time. I love that they have a couple Asian flavors like Ube and Matcha, which rotate.
Went on a Friday night around 8:30 pm-ish? after dinner to get a quick sweet treat. The store is clean and well-lit. I didn't have to wait too long, it took maybe ~7 minutes for my turn to order. HOWEVER, the store got extremely packed after I ordered, so I assume I got lucky and came just at the right time. Service was fine, and most importantly, the soft serve ice cream was so good. The flavor I got was Cookies N' Cream Ube (their weekly swirl flavor). I was definitely able to taste both ube and cookies n cream equally. It was so creamy and perfectly balanced between both flavors. The worker offered a free strawberry as a topping but I didn't get it. Solid location!
We got lucky and came in before the rush as there was only 1 person ahead of us! Literally after we ordered the line wrapped around the store to the front door lol. The cashier who took our order was super friendly and patient. No seats, standing room only. I ordered 2 taiyaki but they totally skimped out on the nutella filling compared to the GG location. This one prob put only like a teaspoon and only a small portion was covered in the fish waffle. Bummer. There was a full container of Nutella that was placed next to the waffle maker thing so idk why so little ): Wish I had a photo but I only have a photo of the outside.
Haven't had somisomi in a min. Stopped by here after class and luckily it was one of the few places that closes at 12am. There's no seating inside, but there's a nice patio by the side that's for outdoor seating. There wasn't anyone getting soft serve at 11pm like us haha, so service was quick and efficient. I ordered the cookies and cream ube mix, which was really good! The quality was just as good as I remembered, even a little sweeter than I remembered? The swirl was really perfect. I loved how the prices here are also very reasonable. Staff were all friendly here as well.

So this place is fairly new in Fullerton. I've always seen the ice cream in the fish but never saw any near me. So the other night I was craving something sweet and decided to stop by and check it out. The customer service was great, it was our first time and they were super helpful. They explained how it worked and about the different flavors of ice cream and fillings and you can even add toppings at the end!! I got the the AHBOONG which is the fishes shaped waffle cone with MATCHA SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM and I added some CAPTAIN CRUNCH to top it off. I LOOVE the matcha is was so creamy and sweet I def will go back for another!!!! My boyfriend tried the UPSIDE DOWN AHBOONG with is the cone in a cup with a STRAWBERRY COOKIES AND CREAM SWIRL AND HE ADDED FRUITTY PEBBLES to finish it off it was and an explosion of goodness in your mouth!!! And there were many groups of people there enjoying their desert it looks clean and nice and there even some cute spots to take pictures! Overall I DEFINITELY recommend you try it out!!! read more

Such a fun spot. If you're looking for a delicious and refreshing dessert, you found it. There's nothing like SomiSomi around! The adorable fish shaped waffle cone is made to order and filled with your choice of flavoring, I always love the custard, then pick your ice cream flavor add some toppings and enjoy your creation! We've been coming here since the pandy days since we used to live at Malden Station by Windsor. Loved walking this neighborhood and slipping into this place to enjoy some Korean style soft serve after having some Italian or some other place we were craving. Sometimes we'd just eat at home and then walked here when we craved something sweet. Their service has always been good, I've never had to wait in a long line, but even when there were 5-6 people ahead, the line went by fast. The ice cream flavors are delicious, I personally love the coffee and ube, but the kids love the cookies & cream (classic flavor). The taiyaki is always fresh, warm, crispy but soft and even better when Nutella is spread on it. Overall great place to enjoy a little sweet treat if you're in the area. read more
Much bigger space compared to the other locations I've been to. Happened to be in the area and lucky for me this location had my favorite swirl combo this week, black sesame and milk! I check their IG periodically to see what the swirls of the week are. It wasn't busy at all when I was there so service was super quick. Toppings are free add-ons, so I decided to get the biscoff cookie crumbles and the strawberry. Very nice sweet treat on a hot day! read more

I thought it was ok! I was excited to try it but I think it fell a bit flat for me. The presentation is nice. And I like that you can add toppings and a strawberry or macaron without extra charge. Staff was friendly. But there wasn't anything really special about it for me. It was just ok :) read more

After a heavy BBQ dinner, we wanted to come and get some dessert. Never had Taiyaki and ice cream, so we decided to come and give Somisomi a try. This place was packed with people everywhere!! From kids and their parents to teenagers to adults, this is a treat for all ages. The smell of cooking waffles is definitely in the air. With the thick smell of chocolate and other sugary smells as well. It's very bright in here. You can see them cooking the taiyaki, as well as a bunch of taiyakis cooling by a fan as well as the ice cream maker and the toppings area. They have a pretty good assembly line, thus making the line and waiting for the finished product go by pretty quickly. I ordered their combo ice cream swirl of matcha and ube. With a taiyaki on top with custard inside and sprinkles and coconut flakes on top. The taiyaki on top was really good. Flaky and warm but still pillowy and soft inside. The custard added a sweetness that was subtle and not overpowering. The ice cream was also subtle in flavors. A little bitter from the matcha but some sweetness from the ube. Not to mention how pretty the presentation is!! The detail on the taiyaki was amazing!! You can see the fish scales, the fins, the eyes, the mouth, and the gills. Making it look as realistic as a fish waffle can be. You can order the Taiyaki by itself, which is a whole waffle fish enclosed with your choice of topping inside, takes about 15 min to make. Or you can have half a taiyaki (no eyes or lips, it's more of a half fish, see pictures) and ice cream which as I said comes out rather quickly. There are some long thin, high-top bar type tables you can stand at to enjoy your dessert. Which is actually quite nice too. Because you can people watch, eavesdrop into peoples' conversations as well as engage in your own conversations. And it also prevents you from eating ice cream outside in the cold!! Overall, it was a nice and new experience for me!! read more
Perfect sweet to end the night! Came here for some taiyaki; they also have soft serve as well. The taiyaki are made to order to ensure they are warm and fresh! Pick your filling and with or without ice cream and then pick your ice cream favors... They have a cute little front and back areas for sitting. Public parking is around the area and they are free. read more

*Nom nom SomiSomi* SomiSomi is always such a fun treat! Ordering the Ah-boong is a must, especially for a first timer! It includes the fish waffle cone, filling, soft serve, and toppings (plus a strawberry or macaron garnish). So fun! I like the classics - so I got a vanilla soft serve with Nutella filling and a strawberry garnish. The soft serve is good and so rich - it almost reminds me of a frozen custard. My only critique of this SomiSomi, in particular, is that the waffle cones were sitting out so they were not as delicious as they would have been if they were fresh and crispy. Also - they are a tad bit stingy with the filling. Maybe because I am a chocoholic, but I just wish mine had more Nutella! read more

Checked out this ice cream spot and it turned to my new go to! First time visiting somisomi and I loved it! A few things to note: 1. No indoor seating, outdoor only or you can stand inside 2. The guy at the register was super patient and helpful, definitely appreciate him! 3. Unlimited toppings I ordered the ah-boong with strawberries & matcha ice cream, Nutella filling, fruity pebbles topping & a macaron and it's the best, the flavors blend together perfectly! read more
A treat if you love ice cream. The thin waffle-like "fish" contains your choice of fillings and ice cream. It acts almost like an ice cream cone. Traditional servings are available. There is no seating in the store but rather narrow waist high tables. Outside (closed street) seating is available out the front door and to the right. Stopped by Somi Somi in Fullerton after Taste of Japan for some dessert on a hot summer day! When we walked in, there were no customers but within 15 minutes at least 10 other people showed up and place got busy pretty quickly. I decided to order the Pink Guava since I've never had it and it had a good balance of sour and sweet, was excellent with the breading and the nutella. Will be back for more desserts in the future! read more

These used to be good but they're skimping so hard on the filling now the taiyaki have nothing inside. 3/4 is just dough. Maybe one tablespoon of filling max. Such a rip off. read more
Drove by and noticed the sign...had to do a u-turn and stop in since I hadn't been to a somi somi in a long time. Didn't know this location even exists, but it does!!! The place was pretty busy even though it was chilly outside. Had ube and matcha ah-boong "cones" as well as taiyaki with custard. Omg, the warm little nuggets of yumminess made my night!!! Im not in the area often, but I'll remember to pop in for a taiyaki or two!!! read more
OVERALL SomiSomi hooked, lined, and sunk me with their soft serve and Taiyaki. If you see one of these little Korean shops, give it a try! RATING BREAKDOWN | Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Environment: 5 | Price: 4 | PARKING There is free street and public lot parking nearby within reasonable walking distance. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's located in downtown Fullerton which can be surprisingly packed at times. The day we went, most COVID-19 restrictions were in place, so indoor dining was not available. There are plenty of places outside in the makeshift courtyard. You can see freshly made Taiyakis as you wait in line. FOOD This has to be said... I love how fish are dedicated to the culinary art of SomiSomi's portfolio. It's so adorable. My young daughters loved this idea. I highly suggest you try their ah-boong if you're a first-timer. Ah-boong is "[SomiSomi's] signature goldfish-shaped waffle cone stuffed with your choice of filling & soft serve." + ube ice cream with upside down Taiyaki filled with Nutella ($6.45) = my oldest daughter loved this combination. I was impressed with the ube soft serve - it was sweet, but not overbearing. My second favorite of the three we tried. + cookies & cream ice cream with upside down Taiyaki filled with Nutella ($6.45) = my youngest loved the Taiyaki, but we all agreed this soft serve choice was our least favorite. + black sesame ice cream with upside down Taiyaki filled with custard ($6.45) = I love this ice cream. It's my favorite. The custard was not a bad option, but I want to try red bean next time. SERVICE The service we received from two sweet young ladies on 2/21/22 was outstanding. No complaints whatsoever. MY FAVORITE PART... So I have heard from several others, Yelp reviewers, and SomiSomi's website that their soft serve has the "perfect level of sweetness." Of course, I was skeptic as hell, but I love, love, love their unique (to me) flavors and their sweetness level now. MY LEAST FAVORITE PART... Eating outside in the extraordinary wind. This place will be the death of my beach body. It is SOOOOO good. Just. I don't even know. Staff, ambiance, flow, food. All good. It's worth any wait. I have been getting the upside down ahboong in a cup with ube and milk tea swirl and red bean taiyaki. Just under $7 They do change their flavors, so I'll probably have to switch it up soon. You can also choose from many toppings: Cocoa powder, macarons, rainbow sprinkles, coconut flakes, cocoa pebbles, fruity pebbles, strawberries, Cap'n Crunch, graham crackers, Oreo crumbs Just go. Somisomi brings an Asian twist to an American classic soft-serve ice cream and makes it feel like you're having it for the first time again. The biggest Asian heavy hitting flavors combined into one is an epic blend but swirl combos are in rotation so check in with the store to make sure they have the one you're looking for. The ice cream is housed in my favorite vessel, the taiyaki cone, a fish shaped cone that has a slight crunchy exterior and is soft and fluffy on the inside. You have many topping options to choose from so go with your tummy! It was my first time there but the staff were very patient and helpful as I struggled choosing my flavors and toppings! Great service, delicious food, and clean interior. The soft serve was so creamy and smooth, and the "cone" was crispy and fresh. They make everything super fresh, and the Nutella was a great accent to the overall dessert. I literally craved it the next day and went back! It's very easy to miss the shop because it's hidden in a corner, but I recommend it to anyone who wants a sweet treat. read more

I was in the area and decided to visit this shop for some filled taiyaki. Parking was a bit tricky as I was unfamiliar with the area but after circling around a bit I realized there is a parking structure behind this shop as well as some street parking. The women working here were very nice and welcoming. I ordered two taiyaki - one custard filled and the other Nutella filled. They make them to order so it took about five minutes. I stood and intensely stared at the large waffle cooker but it didn't make it go any quicker. There are a few tables inside and a couple patio areas but I took them to-go. It's best to eat taiyaki immediately so the fish-imprinted waffle stays crisp. Not wanting to risk them getting soggy I ate them in the car. The waffle on each was crisp outside and soft toward the interior. Both fillings were delicious. The Nutella one was plump with filling while the custard one could have used a bit more. If so desired, you can also get soft serve ice cream in your taiyaki. They have several ice cream flavors to choose from as well as other fillings such as red bean and taro. A good choice for taiyaki if you find yourself in Fullerton. read more
First time trying SomiSomi and sad I didn't try it earlier! I ordered a custard filled waffle with soft serve and it did not disappoint! The takiyaki was made fresh in front of my eyes and I asked for it to be served in a cup. I love custard everything so to find a dessert that featured custard that wasn't the typical flan or creme brulee was a treat! Definitely a great alternative to regular dessert. I This location is in Downtown Fullerton off of Harbor and Wilshire and it has a nice courtyard where you can enjoy your dessert. I look forward to getting another one soon! read more

So excited to find that they added a Fullerton location. Had been to the LA little Tokyo location and loved it. Seriously so delicious. I was craving soft serve ice cream and ended up here which was perfect and hit the spot. They don't have vanilla soft serve but milk flavor which is soo good did my taiyaki upside down with Nutella Oreo sprinkles and a strawberry. Amazing. Really no line when we went on Tuesday night service was quick and friendly. Can't wait to go back. read more
