Very nice dining experience. The ambiance was 10/10 and the live jazz band created a nice vibe. Lighting was very dim, it was extremely hard to read the menu even for young eyes. The Paccheri Pasta was very tasty and perfect portion for a single serving. The shrimp scampi exceeded my expectations, very fresh and flavorful. Hanger steak was available on the night I dined, it was decent but would not order this cut of steak again. The roasted chicken was a show stopper super juicy and flavorful. Huge portion for a second meal. Service was good but got a bit slow toward the end of our service. I would visit again to try other menu items. read more

Don't be fooled by the area, this place is really a hidden gem. This place is a perfect place for any special occasion or if you're looking for a romantic and moody vibe. You enter through a curtain and are instantly transported into an what feels like a movie scene. The food is good but not great. What I mean by that is, the food adds to the experience but I wouldn't come here necessarily just for the food. But,I will say they have some of the best Parker house rolls I've had in LA. You won't regret coming here for a great evening out. The live Jazz music makes Somerville truly an experience not just a resturant. read more

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Somerville for the first time yesterday evening, and it was romantically perfect! We arrived quite early for our reservation and were gracefully seated right away. The ambiance was plant-infused, upscale, and filled with incredible jazz. From the host to the valet, we felt so genuinely looked after. We had bar reservations, and our bartender, Enrique B., was charismatic, informative, and patient. We ordered two "The Great Migration" cocktails, one "Dr. John," a Crown & Hops "8 Trill Pils," and truffle fries to share. My husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon, and the Somerville team even gave us a beautiful card--such a thoughtful touch! The manager on duty was equally professional and welcoming. Listening to live jazz really took the evening over the top for us; it felt like stepping right into the Harlem Renaissance. The crowd was wonderfully diverse, and it is so amazing to have a gem like this on Slauson. I hope this business lasts for generations to come. We can't wait to visit again--next time at a dining table! (And hopefully, they'll add a vegan entree option to the menu soon.) A truly perfect experience--highly recommend! read more

A coworker suggested we go after work and I'm so glad we did! I didn't have any of the food, but definitely did look incredible as I saw it coming out for other people. I did have some of the truffle fries. The bartenders were very accommodating very helpful always making sure we had what we needed. The place was packed. Live band playing. It was incredible. It was a vibe. I know Issa Rae has some involvement with this place. I'm not sure to the level of what but I just for the people by the people I love it. It was just a night to always remember. read more

Service 5/5 -The service was great! Very professional, attentive and welcoming. Ambiance 5/5 - Grown and sexy vibes. Dimly lit, live band and perfect for a date night. Food 3.5- The cocktails were good. Yeast rolls, steak and paccheri pasta were all great! The seafood macaroni was a little salty. The portion sizes were small for the price points. The dessert menu was disappointing. Tres Leche and Flan for dessert? I was expecting a spin on a soul food dessert option or something. Nonetheless I am a fan of Issa Rae so I had to support. read more

Love this gem in Windsor Hills! Such a thoughtfully curated atmosphere and menu. Walking inside feels like a sexy jazz lounge, dimly lit with a live band playing. The band was great, covering all the great r&b songs you love. The service was prompt. Now onto the food, we got the Parker rolls, collard green lasagna, the short rib and Brussel sprouts. The food is well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The short rib was so tender and came with a creamy truffle risotto. The drinks were also yummy. Will be back again, a perfect date night. read more

Great location! Slow service... know this before you come. Everything we ate was delicious and the beverages were on point. Valet parking is available but there is also free parking in the lot behind the restaurant. The band was nice, booths were comfortable and we went the Saturday before Mother's Day so it was busy. I felt sorry for our Server he seemed lost the entire evening. I can't wait to return with Little Bit! Respectfully Reviewed. read more

Heard about Somerville but never made it. Better late than never. And after my visit, I wished I had gone sooner. I don't remember what night it was however, it was close by and a friend and I had went elsewhere and was underwhelmed. A quick search in the area landed us at Somerville. I parked in front on Slauson. Free. I heard there's a lot in the back but I don't know any more details than that. I just know that I don't like parking on a main drag because of the potential for accidents - but when you're in LA - you take what you can get. It was later when I overheard someone mentioning the lot in back. Service was excellent. From the server, to the chef to the manager - all came out checking on us and even just chatting. All this and live jazz. Not complaining one bit. It was one of those experiences where you feel like you're in someone's home and they're just making you feel like their guest. As for the food ... see pics. I don't have the words except to say, it was perfect. I wouldn't change a thing and I'd order the exact same thing again on the next visit. Food was served as requested and came out timed like courses. I don't know what's in the bread but if it's crack, it needs to be legalized. Anyway, love places like this. Not many have the kind of vibe you get when all cylinders are firing along to the beat of the live jazz. You can put money down that I'll be back again. read more

Brunch review: As expected, you aren't seated till most of your party gets there, but there wasn't a wait once we were both there. The ambience does give dinner/supper club even though it's brunch. There's no natural light in the building. The food was soooo good though. Shrimp and grit 10/10. It is a lighter dish though so if you're starving you might need something else Shrimp cocktail- tasty, but still Shrimp cocktail. Not worth the price for 4 Shrimp Ham and cheese scramble- 10/10. Filling and you get a little bit of everything. Protein, starch, and greens Espresso martini- 10/10 if you're not a creamy coffee person. You def taste the expresso White sangria - good, but red was better. I'd recommend sampling both and then decide. Service: the service was great! Even though I sampled the sangria I still made the wrong choice, but our waiter was more than willing to switch it for me. Can't wait to go back for dinner!!! I went back Feb 2026 to celebrate a friend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, from beginning to end. We arrived a little early and waited at the bar. I believe I had the Dunbar, which has Prosecco and Hennessy...loved it! Once seated, everything that hit the table was excellent! Two of us had the kale salad and caviar slides and loved them! It was the perfect amount of food. One person had the chicken and enjoyed it and the sides. The other two had the Salmon, which was a delight with a curry sauce. Now I have to bring my husband back so we can try it together. Service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance remains top tier! They charge a $10 per person plate fee if you bring your own cake. I thought that was a bit excessive so we opted to provide the bday person with a slice. They will hold it for you and provide a candle. It took me awhile to make it back, but I'm glad I did and really enjoyed the experience. read more

Believe the hype and come here! Owners Issa Rae, Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan intentionally created an elegant vibe in View Park-Windsor Hills that celebrates the rich history of South Central LA. Upon entering, guests are transported to a grand speakeasy with a high wooden ceiling, velvet booths, vintage chandeliers and lighting and art deco designs. The live jazz band is the focal point and sets the mood every night. Note that they don't seat parties until everyone is there. They should mention this detail in the reservation reminders. One of our friends out of a party of 5 was running a little behind and we had to wait outside until she came. My party got seated next to the band so it was a bit loud, but we appreciated the music and the view of the beautiful bar. We were still able to chat. We enjoyed our drinks and most of the dishes we ordered. The Golden Age is their twist on the Old Fashioned, the Sweet Tone was like a raspberry tequila martini and Forget Me Not was a nice balance of Ilegal Mezcal, Chareau, pepper honey and Glenfiddich 12 Scotch. Fried Chicken & Caviar Sliders ($27 for 2) the Buttermilk-brined chicken were decent, juicy pieces but didn't taste much of the caviar in the Petrossian creme fraiche. Maybe that's why the chef recommends adding 4 grams of caviar for an extra $45! However, we got the Baked Mac n Cheese ($17) and added Maine lobster for an extra $17 and thought that was worth it. The Mac n cheese was rich and crispy on top and the lobster elevated the dish nicely. The Brussel Sprouts ($16) were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Not greasy at all and the crispy rice added a good texture. But the Winning dish was the Collard Green Lasagna ($34)! It doesn't look that impressive on the surface but when you cut into it, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the marrying of flavors of the greens, bechamel, ricotta, sun dried tomatoes, parmesan and mozzarella layered in al dente pasta. We finished our meal by sharing a fudge brownie topped with strawberries and ice cream. The fudge was rich and gooey. The strawberries and ice cream balanced out each bite. There were a couple of mishaps with service, but they made up for it in a special way. I would definitely return to try more dishes and enjoy the live jazz and ambience. Street parking may be difficult in the area. Valet is $20. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but the three stars are for the cocktails, rolls, and ambiance only. The restaurant is stunning and I really appreciated the live music and yummy cocktails. Unfortunately, my party was seated in the corner with our backs to the rest of the restaurant, so we couldn't fully enjoy the atmosphere as we were facing a wall. As for the food, the chicken sliders were good, but probably not something I'd say are worth the price. The collard green lasagna was raved about online so my friend and I gave it a try; this was probably our least favorite item. I'd give this a 5 out of 10. Overall, I'd come back, but only for live music and cocktails. read more

Tiffany our waitress we loved her !! Could not leave w/o giving her a New Year hug and appreciated her kindness and taking such good care of us. Drinks and food came with good timing. Amazing delectable cocktails. Food we ordered all a 100/10!! Flavors of all kinds exploding in your taste buds with every bite. Choice of sauces / seasonings paired perfectly. SUCH a lovely addition to the Windsor Hills/View Park neighborhood! Only open for dinner, but worth wait if you're looking for a spot to enjoy your evening alone, or with friends, a date, or for a special occasion. You can easily spend hours here vibing to the live jazz, and energy of this place. It is dim lit, and feels like youve been transported to the 1950's. The brown and neutral tones, and wooded interior of the restaurant is so classy and elegant, like a scene from a movie. The food was absolutely delicious! A little pricey, and fewer options then I would prefer, but understandably because of the location and prestige, as well as Issa wanting to master the quality, rather than the quantity. A total gem in L.A.! An unforgettable experience! read more

Finally made it to Somerville. Was it worth the hype? For a one-time visit--yes. But would I go back? Probably not. I'd heard mixed reviews going in, so I was mostly there for the aesthetics and the vibes. On that front, they nailed it: 5 stars for ambiance and service. Now, the food. We started with the much-talked-about rolls. They were definitely good and lived up to the hype, but at $19 for six small rolls, it felt a little steep. For entrées, we ordered the braised short ribs and the collard greens lasagna. The short ribs, served over creamy risotto, were flavorful but a touch too salty. The lasagna, though, was the biggest disappointment of the night. It was so overwhelmingly cheesy that it completely drowned out the greens--I genuinely couldn't tell you what the greens or even the noodles tasted like. Don't believe the hype on that one. Dessert was the highlight: the chocolate torte. Think chocolate mousse-like cake with a crisp wafer bottom, fresh strawberries, and a scoop of strawberry gelato--absolutely delicious. Cocktails: We tried The Dunbar, which is similar to a French 75 but made with Hennessy instead of gin, and Forget Me Not, a mezcal-based drink. The Dunbar was my favorite of the two. Overall, Somerville is a classy spot with live jazz and great atmosphere. Just know what you're getting into food-wise. Valet parking is $20. read more

It was a decent experience. Definitely a vibe though! There are few kinks from an operational standpoint. Customer service was a little slow. We had to wait in line for a while because their bar was full... but it really wasn't. Prices were hefty. For example, the Parker rolls were $20. Their menu wasn't extensive. I went with my girlfriends twice- once for brunch and the next time was dinner. Food was good but there were some things that could use improvement. My friend said their steak was cooked well- but it was plated weird and cut for her... which she was not a fan of. The granita dessert was interesting to say the least. I actually enjoyed it but it tasted like sea moss. Dinner: Parker rolls - soft and delicious. The truffle butter is so good. My favorite had to be the Brussels sprouts! Broccolini was good too- under that mountain of cheese. Chicken and caviar was ok but did not like the sauce- too tangy for my taste. Short rib was decent. Dessert: Chocolate tart and tres leches- decadent ! Drinks were good as well. I loved my raspberry martini ! Music of course was great. The jazz is a nice touch and it's a good look for date night. read more

Somerville checked all the boxes I didn't know I needed checked. Wow! From the moment, Noel said, 'Welcome to Somerville' and pulled the entry curtain back, I knew I was in for a treat. Upon walking in to the restaurant, due to the unassuming exterior, I did not know what to expect. The curtain pulled back and I entered a wide open space of beautifully crafted wood walls with exposed beams. Tall green plants lined the walls and the lighting was soft. The live band played on the left side with a fully rich sound and expert artistry. I stood at the entry way for a moment without walking to my seat right away. I was mesmerized and felt transported to a modern day jazzy supper club. Everyone who was there looked liked they stepped put of a fashion magazine or were about to audition for an amazing Hollywood role. We were escorted to a half round booth in the back on the right side. This was the perfect spot to see who was coming, going and mingling in between. The restaurant was celebrating it's one year anniversary. As I took a look around, I could see how they made it through the first year. The ambience created made you want to be there and be a part of something beautiful. As the music flowed throughout the restaurant, I felt beautiful. Kendall was our server. She was attentive, knowledgeable, kind and helpful. She moved with ease to fulfill or anticipate any requests we had. At our table, the items ordered were: truffles fries (hot, crispy and satisfying), salmon (seasoned to perfection in a curry type sauce), roast beef (tender, juicy and delicious), chicken (tender, flavorful and those grits were wonderful!). A drink: A Love Supreme, I think it was called was just okay. I ran into the actress, Issa Rae in the bathroom. I did not know this was her restaurant. I would have loved to have taken a photo with her and congratulated her on Somerville's success, but I didn't not want to intrude. Well done on all fronts. Attention to detail was had for the decor, music, ambient lighting, menu, even the bathroom was gorgeous. Again, I say, well done. I look forward to returning in the near future to experience the beauty of Somerville. As we left, Noel greeted us outside and thanked us for coming. She said she hoped we'd return. We said we would. When was the last time you had a truly beautiful dining experience? Try Somerville. They were definitely all that and the some BTW, valet parking is available for $20. read more

Came here on a Sunday for a friend's birthday brunch. Reservation was for 2pm. Upon arrival, I was informed that the kitchen closes at 2:15pm. Super weird because why are yall taking reservations til 2:30pm if the kitchen closes at 2:15? Anyways, as soon as we were seated it was like we were rushed to order food and drinks. I ordered the fried chicken & caviar sliders and shrimp n grits. For cocktails, I ordered the good morning, sangria (tasty). The live music was truly a vibe. The band left around 2:30pm but the music that the restaurant played was still a vibe. I would rate the fried chicken & caviar sliders and 8/10 & shrimp n grits 6/10 (basic). We tried to order another round of drinks but the bar closed at 3pm and our waitress didn't give a last call notice, just "the bar closed at 3pm." Parking was valet, $20 but I definitely parked around back for free. If I do return & for brunch, I would def make an early reservation and order the sliders again. read more

The restaurant itself was amazing! The decor and the live jazz was great! The seating leaves alot to be desired, should have more visibility to the band instead of the strategic seating areas. I loved the Parker rolls/ my mocktail was delicious. Was not impressed by the roasted lukewarm chicken. The brussel sprouts were superb! Waiters, attentive although the young lady forgot to bring ine of the drinks to our table. Had dinner at Somerville last night, and honestly, it was such a good time. The live band was great, the energy was fun, and the space itself is just beautiful; definitely gives upscale vibes without feeling stuffy. I ordered the Fried Chicken & Caviar Sliders, and they were so good. Crispy, juicy chicken with that little fancy touch from the caviar--honestly one of the best bites of the night. I also tried the Brussels sprouts, which had that perfect sweet and crispy thing going on, and the Parker House rolls with truffle butter? Super nice. Our server was super attentive... never missed a beat with the water refills, and parking in the back made things easy. Only downside was that some of the back seating faces the wall, register, or kitchen door. Not the best view if you're hoping for the full vibe, but you make do with it. Issa girl, we gotta talk sis. Somerville is just not hitting the mark. The ambiance is a 10/10 but no one ever returns to a restaurant for just "vibes". Everyone's food was lukewarm NOT hot. We were celebrating two birthdays and was offered a dessert menu for purchase instead of a complimentary dessert after spending over $500 for a 4 person dinner. A complimentary dessert is standard hospitality at even the most basic restaurants. I mean...even the Olive Garden will give the girls a bday brownie or something. What a missed opportunity! Also, the espresso martini was light brown and not strong at all. Overall, the food was a 4/10 at best with extremely small portions. I emailed management in hopes of receiving some sort of acknowledgment but they never responded. Now if I reached out in attempt to reserve space for a party, I'm sure I would've heard back immediately. If we talking fine dining? Somerville got a LONG way to go. I won't be back. read more

The decor is everything! From the bar mini Tiffany like lamps to the restrooms such a delightful dark at the beginning space, then your eyes will adjust. All staff we came across were very nice. Our server Kendall was exceptional! Appreciated her suggestions and clarity to the menu items, they were on point, not everyone is going to like everything and so honesty is appreciated. My friend had the collard greens lasagna, she said it was different and tasty. We shared the Brussel sprouts and the Mac n cheese, and those were full of flavors bursting in my mouth. I liked how the brussel sprouts were well cooked/charred :) my entree was the paccheri pasta with short rib ragu, I would have never ordered that in my past life, I wanted beef though sooo I took a risk, it was very flavorful, dish was wiped out! Heads up the burger is on the bar menu only, you cannot order it when seated... I will come back for that burger for sure. Music was nice as well, just a lil too loud, we had to repeat ourselves, understandable though it is live musicians, just a heads up, an intimate conversation would be difficult, lovely music though. Somerville is pretty much what you'd expect from a buzzy, New American, restaurant. Boasting a dark and moody vibe, there's certainly a curated atmosphere present here, complete with a talented band. I will say that the live music (while lovely) was quite loud. Fortunately, there were breaks in the set because I couldn't carry on a conversation otherwise. The service, however, was fantastic. I was particularly impressed by our server, Kendall. On to the food. I started with The D.W. cocktail which was fabulous. Sweet, but with a lovely depth and complexity to it. For apps, we had the Parker house rolls and the carrots. If I were coming back again, I'd skip the former and reorder the latter. I've scarcely met a piece of bread that I didn't like, but these were just fine. I did appreciate the housemade truffle butter though. The carrots, on the other hand, were lovely; sweet and perfectly tender. For my main course, I got the short rib paccheri pasta which was tasty. It did come with a mound of Parmesan on top and while I'd have loved to choose my own level of cheese, it was solid. Had a bite of the chicken too and it was fine but nothing too special. Forgot that we had the Mac & cheese also; good but not a standout. Overall, a solid meal and experience. read more
