    White sangria

Brunch review: As expected, you aren't seated till most of your party gets there, but there wasn't a wait once we were both there. The ambience does give dinner/supper club even though it's brunch. There's no natural light in the building. The food was soooo good though. Shrimp and grit 10/10. It is a lighter dish though so if you're starving you might need something else Shrimp cocktail- tasty, but still Shrimp cocktail. Not worth the price for 4 Shrimp Ham and cheese scramble- 10/10. Filling and you get a little bit of everything. Protein, starch, and greens Espresso martini- 10/10 if you're not a creamy coffee person. You def taste the expresso White sangria - good, but red was better. I'd recommend sampling both and then decide. Service: the service was great! Even though I sampled the sangria I still made the wrong choice, but our waiter was more than willing to switch it for me. Can't wait to go back for dinner!!! I had a reservation at 1:30 and the music was a little loud

Heard about Somerville but never made it. Better late than never. And after my visit, I wished I had gone sooner. I don't remember what night it was however, it was close by and a friend and I had went elsewhere and was underwhelmed. A quick search in the area landed us at Somerville. I parked in front on Slauson. Free. I heard there's a lot in the back but I don't know any more details than that. I just know that I don't like parking on a main drag because of the potential for accidents - but when you're in LA - you take what you can get. It was later when I overheard someone mentioning the lot in back. Service was excellent. From the server, to the chef to the manager - all came out checking on us and even just chatting. All this and live jazz. Not complaining one bit. It was one of those experiences where you feel like you're in someone's home and they're just making you feel like their guest. As for the food ... see pics. I don't have the words except to say, it was perfect. I wouldn't change a thing and I'd order the exact same thing again on the next visit. Food was served as requested and came out timed like courses. I don't know what's in the bread but if it's crack, it needs to be legalized. Anyway, love places like this. Not many have the kind of vibe you get when all cylinders are firing along to the beat of the live jazz. You can put money down that I'll be back again.

I went back Feb 2026 to celebrate a friend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, from beginning to end. We arrived a little early and waited at the bar. I believe I had the Dunbar, which has Prosecco and Hennessy...loved it! Once seated, everything that hit the table was excellent! Two of us had the kale salad and caviar slides and loved them! It was the perfect amount of food. One person had the chicken and enjoyed it and the sides. The other two had the Salmon, which was a delight with a curry sauce. Now I have to bring my husband back so we can try it together. Service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance remains top tier! They charge a $10 per person plate fee if you bring your own cake. I thought that was a bit excessive so we opted to provide the bday person with a slice. They will hold it for you and provide a candle. It took me awhile to make it back, but I'm glad I did and really enjoyed the experience.

Service was great! Love the decor, esthetic, and live Jazz band that plays every 30 min. We went for the first time on my husband's birthday and we really enjoyed the food and drinks. We would absolutely come back and bring more friends and family. Highly recommend! Great job and great taste Issa Rae!

Brought my fiancée here for his birthday and it was wonderful. We had an amazing server, Tiffany, who gave us the best service. We honestly believe that her energy provided a great experience. The drinks were also amazing; I had the heyday drink and he had the Dunbar. Also the food was very tasty, great portions and my god the live music was perfect. Highly recommend

Forget Me Not, Sweet Tone and Golden Age - Cheers!

Believe the hype and come here! Owners Issa Rae, Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan intentionally created an elegant vibe in View Park-Windsor Hills that celebrates the rich history of South Central LA. Upon entering, guests are transported to a grand speakeasy with a high wooden ceiling, velvet booths, vintage chandeliers and lighting and art deco designs. The live jazz band is the focal point and sets the mood every night. Note that they don't seat parties until everyone is there. They should mention this detail in the reservation reminders. One of our friends out of a party of 5 was running a little behind and we had to wait outside until she came. My party got seated next to the band so it was a bit loud, but we appreciated the music and the view of the beautiful bar. We were still able to chat. We enjoyed our drinks and most of the dishes we ordered. The Golden Age is their twist on the Old Fashioned, the Sweet Tone was like a raspberry tequila martini and Forget Me Not was a nice balance of Ilegal Mezcal, Chareau, pepper honey and Glenfiddich 12 Scotch. Fried Chicken & Caviar Sliders ($27 for 2) the Buttermilk-brined chicken were decent, juicy pieces but didn't taste much of the caviar in the Petrossian creme fraiche. Maybe that's why the chef recommends adding 4 grams of caviar for an extra $45! However, we got the Baked Mac n Cheese ($17) and added Maine lobster for an extra $17 and thought that was worth it. The Mac n cheese was rich and crispy on top and the lobster elevated the dish nicely. The Brussel Sprouts ($16) were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Not greasy at all and the crispy rice added a good texture. But the Winning dish was the Collard Green Lasagna ($34)! It doesn't look that impressive on the surface but when you cut into it, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the marrying of flavors of the greens, bechamel, ricotta, sun dried tomatoes, parmesan and mozzarella layered in al dente pasta. We finished our meal by sharing a fudge brownie topped with strawberries and ice cream. The fudge was rich and gooey. The strawberries and ice cream balanced out each bite. There were a couple of mishaps with service, but they made up for it in a special way. I would definitely return to try more dishes and enjoy the live jazz and ambience. Street parking may be difficult in the area. Valet is $20.

I really wanted to love this place, but the three stars are for the cocktails, rolls, and ambiance only. The restaurant is stunning and I really appreciated the live music and yummy cocktails. Unfortunately, my party was seated in the corner with our backs to the rest of the restaurant, so we couldn't fully enjoy the atmosphere as we were facing a wall. As for the food, the chicken sliders were good, but probably not something I'd say are worth the price. The collard green lasagna was raved about online so my friend and I gave it a try; this was probably our least favorite item. I'd give this a 5 out of 10. Overall, I'd come back, but only for live music and cocktails.

The cocktails were perfect, and the food was incredible. The rolls were delicious, the caviar chicken sandwiches were a standout, and the paccheri pasta was amazing. We also shared the hamachi and the garlic steak, which ended up being the perfect amount split between the four of us. What really made the night though was the staff. GOAT. Huge shoutout to Tiffany for the great table service & after dinner bar suggestions, Yasmeen for being the best manager in the game, and Ajayfresh for knowing exactly how to host and take care of guests. Highly recommend this spot and will definitely be sending everyone I know here. If you're visiting LA from near or far, Somerville is absolutely worth checking out.

I mean as soon as you get there you are greeted by the most friendliest hospitality. The door opens and you enter a room with such a beautiful table arrangement, intimate lighting, decor that makes you feel you just walked into a speakeasy. i simply adore it, being located in south central is a plus. Tiffany our waitress we loved her !! Could not leave w/o giving her a New Year hug and appreciated her kindness and taking such good care of us. Drinks and food came with good timing. Amazing delectable cocktails. Food we ordered all a 100/10!! Flavors of all kinds exploding in your taste buds with every bite. Choice of sauces / seasonings paired perfectly. Very well prepared, a round of applause to the chef!! Presentation also very beautifully layed out. Thank you Somerville for our first time experience and to bring in the New Year as well as my 40th trip around the sun.

SUCH a lovely addition to the Windsor Hills/View Park neighborhood! Only open for dinner, but worth wait if you're looking for a spot to enjoy your evening alone, or with friends, a date, or for a special occasion. You can easily spend hours here vibing to the live jazz, and energy of this place. It is dim lit, and feels like youve been transported to the 1950's. The brown and neutral tones, and wooded interior of the restaurant is so classy and elegant, like a scene from a movie. The food was absolutely delicious! A little pricey, and fewer options then I would prefer, but understandably because of the location and prestige, as well as Issa wanting to master the quality, rather than the quantity. A total gem in L.A.! An unforgettable experience!

WOW!!! Somerville is amazing! I was honestly so impressed by our food, our drinks and the service. I had no idea what to expect and it def exceeded my expectations. We ordered the duck appetizer, drinks, pork chop, shortrib + risotto (which is amazing!) and ended dinner with the chocolate torte. It was truly black excellence! From the patrons.. to the staff.. to the live jazz music. Seriously if you get a chance to go, you won't regret it. 10000000/10.

Wish the jazz was harder, and the drinks were stiffer! Great ambience, and it's great to support Issa Rae's new establishment. Wifey thought the steak sauce was too salty, but I enjoyed my cheesy Collard Green Lasagna.

Finally made it to Somerville. Was it worth the hype? For a one-time visit--yes. But would I go back? Probably not. I'd heard mixed reviews going in, so I was mostly there for the aesthetics and the vibes. On that front, they nailed it: 5 stars for ambiance and service. Now, the food. We started with the much-talked-about rolls. They were definitely good and lived up to the hype, but at $19 for six small rolls, it felt a little steep. For entrées, we ordered the braised short ribs and the collard greens lasagna. The short ribs, served over creamy risotto, were flavorful but a touch too salty. The lasagna, though, was the biggest disappointment of the night. It was so overwhelmingly cheesy that it completely drowned out the greens--I genuinely couldn't tell you what the greens or even the noodles tasted like. Don't believe the hype on that one. Dessert was the highlight: the chocolate torte. Think chocolate mousse-like cake with a crisp wafer bottom, fresh strawberries, and a scoop of strawberry gelato--absolutely delicious. Cocktails: We tried The Dunbar, which is similar to a French 75 but made with Hennessy instead of gin, and Forget Me Not, a mezcal-based drink. The Dunbar was my favorite of the two. Overall, Somerville is a classy spot with live jazz and great atmosphere. Just know what you're getting into food-wise. Valet parking is $20.

    Can you wear sneakers?

Good question! With Men ! You already know the suit and slacks and SNEAKERS. The style trend Now. If I was in that style I would do it! 😉 Have fun!

Is it kid friendly for older kids (17+)?

It's considered a supper club so I wouldn't bring anyone under 21. Try calling . It's hard to get through at times.

What is the parking situation here?

There's free parking behind the restaurant but may be limited. They also have valet in the front.

Do they accept cash, silly question but I'm curious?

    Yes, cash and credit cards!

What days/times does the band perform?

Every evening they are open starting at 7pm

    Is it kid-friendly?

It's a more mature environment imo.

    Do you need reservations?

Not need but highly recommended reserving. Tables can be reserved on open table.. A book in advance. I booked in Dec for March

    Are there gluten free options?

    Salad, brussel sprouts!

Can anything be made vegan friendly on the dinner menu?

No, unfortunately the chef doesn't change anything on the menu.

How much does the food cost?

    $15-40

    Do you absolutely need reservations?

You definitely need reservations to dine at a table, they are booked until April 2025. If you want to get a drink at the bar you still have to wait in line and it's not a guarantee you'll be let in, mainly because there are a lot of people waiting… Read more

In an effort to pre-party before a concert in the Kia forum I looked up bars near the area that…read morewere walking distance. The top hit was this one. And I could see why, the joint had hop and hip energy, like beautiful chaos that promoted a good time. But if you go here, understand that beautiful chaos is still chaos, so do not expect proper procedure when ordering or mingling, this joint is not about that. It is more about finding the good time, while inside the jukebox, not admiring its bump and lyrics and you comfortably sit. As soon as I entered the place, I knew that this place had flavor and soul for days, like both these qualities were interwoven into a great braid that could not be untangled. Before I could take in the surroundings, I needed a drink. The time was around 630 p.m., on a Saturday night, and the place was already sort of packed. I would need luck and direct pounce energy, to find a stool to call my own. I lacked both since I never found a chair for me, myself, and I. I waited for a line to form, so I could join it and order in the bar, but no line formed. I got into a cluster of people, and jammed myself slowly to the bar. It was Ronnie who eventually served me, a beautiful and kind soul, if I ever did meet one. She first made a point to introduce herself, and then ask my name, and then my drink. It is the small things that make the chaos beautiful. When I went to get a second drink, it was later in the night, and the amorphous line became a greater clump of folks. Again, I had to maneuver, and talk to folks, as they waited. A woman asked me for a drink, she asked a few others for a drink. She did not want an alcoholic drink. When I ordered my second vodka cocktail I handed her my drink so I can sign my receipt. I did not have space in the counter to do so. After holding my drink she asked for a drink again, I did not get it for her. To participate in beautiful chaos does not require more funding than I was willing to give. By this time the crowd got more bigger. People were eating at their tables, people were sipping their drinks, and people were just buzzing and feeling the flow. I went upstairs and there was a loungy area, small but, there. This spot was full too. Where can I find a place to sit? I could not. Even when I saw some couches on the second floor vacate I did not know if these required a reservation, or if they were up for grabs. I did ask a fellow bar-goer, if I could clip part of her fit. She was wearing a jean skirt that looked like it was fashion from shipwreck netting. So the vibe produces people that are just down for a good time. I also clipped a sign that in neon words said "good vibes" this sign never lied. When I went down the stairs, this guy slapped me on a shoulder blade, harder than I could appreciate as a joke. He wanted to know if I was having a good time. His friend laughed. They were trying to create a situation where I could laugh off the moment. I took it, heard the guy until he was done, so the beuatiful chaos of this place both gives and takes. In the final tally, go this place, if you are looking to jam and get loud, cause really if you are not willing to be about that, then this bar at night time might not be for you--- cause it was just a crowd and movement ablaze!

The security at the door was very nice, and the host was welcoming. She told us we could sit anywhere since it was pretty empty, so we chose seats at the bar to watch the large screens. After we sat down, got comfortable, and started looking at the menu, the bartender came over and asked us to move to another area. She explained that the other servers did not have any tables and did not want to be the only one serving. Meanwhile, other people were also choosing to sit at the bar, which made it confusing why we were the ones being asked to move. That interaction felt frustrating and unwelcoming. When guests are told they can sit anywhere, they should not be asked to relocate for internal staffing reasons. That is something management should handle behind the scenes, not something placed on customers. It completely changed the experience for us. We each had one drink and decided to leave. Very disappointing first impression. Staff should be better trained on how to handle situations like this without making customers feel unwelcome.

No strong desire I enjoyed the vibes of the place, but the live music was a little too loud to have a comfortable conversation. However, I believe that having a comfortable conversation at a bar with live music is a contradiction, so no points lost there. My main issues with The Washington are as follows: 1) expensive 2) poor drink selection. These two issues are not independent as I am ok paying ~$20 a drink only if the cocktails are going above and beyond in some sort of way. For example, the drink has some sort of complicated syrups or uses some sort of unconventional technique that I would not want to replicate at home. However, you cannot really find creative cocktails here. And, on top of that, I also find a lackluster selection of drinks. I'm not entirely sure why there isn't more gin/vodka cocktail selection (I am well aware that they can make standard bar drinks that are not explicitly listed, but I am critiquing the lack of 'original drinks').

Good conversation, good vibes, and a cozy rooftop moment -- can't really ask for more than that. If you're in the area, stop by and show them some love. P.S. There's street parking... and it's free, which in itself deserves a round of applause.

There's free parking on the street so you don't need to park in the hotel. Our group got the grilled chicken sandwich and fries, and heard it was good. The flat bread was also tasty, although cut a little interesting in a diagonal shape. The flora fries were huge, perfectly cooked and with a lot of garlic! It was really good. I ordered the ahi tuna poke with the rice and ir was perfect. The crispy rice wasn't rock hard like other places, so you don't feel like you chipped a tooth. It was a little soft and chewy. For drinks, I got the Fall Spritz, and sorry I can't believe I didn't take a picture of it but it was delish! The service was good, we went before 8pm Social Hour so it wasn't as busy and the servers were attentive. There were only 2 for the entire roof top. It did get a lot busier at 8pm. This place is super cute for a date night and a lot of fire pits and heaters made it nice and cozy.

I often fantasize about what it would have been like to live in Hollywood in the late 50s/early 60s…read moreduring the height of the Rat Pack, men in suits, women in tailored dresses, smoke-filled rooms with cigars in fingers, cocktail glasses with lipstick stains, Sinatra music in the background, folks seated in thick booths in steakhouse restaurants and shiny cars with white-wall tires parked outside... isn't this so alluring ?! We may not have a working-order time machine available but you can experience the steakhouse vibe via the George Petrelli Steakhouse in Culver City near the intersections of Sepulveda/Slauson/Jefferson. The George Petrelli story goes back nine decades to 1931 when Joe Petrelli arrived in LA from Italy and opened the doors to Petrelli's Airport Café in Culver City. George Petrelli worked in Joe's family business with big dreams of someday owning his own restaurant while maintaining the Petrelli family traditions/values. Secretly, his wife Sophie and daughter Marie procured a space creating a restaurant in George's name to realize his dream and thus, the George Petrelli Steakhouse was born with all three working at the restaurant. I was introduced to George Petrelli Steakhouse through my boyfriend who, along with his family, have been longtime diners but I had no idea what to expect. To be honest: I envisioned a diner-like steakhouse with terrible food. Shame on me for my pre-judgements as I walked into one of the 'coolest' steakhouses with Marie herself acting as hostess at the door. George Petrelli Steakhouse welcomes with a large dining room and alcoves, a performance space and a smaller dining room with a bar and fireplace area. Thick circular booths pepper the floor and Rat Pack era music graces your ears. Can it be said that George Petrelli Steakhouse is perhaps 'outdated'? Yes. But in the BEST way possible as it manages to transport you back to that suit and cocktail era. Think: Musso and Frank style but without the crowds. The menu at GPS is the standard steakhouse fair with all the steak you could want, seafood, Italian entrees in the vein of the Petrelli family's home country, soups, salads, and sandwiches. Prices are NOT low and at this point I was still expecting mediocre food so I thought the menu was overpriced but I am happy to report that was also a shameful judgement. For our visit, my boyfriend paid homage to GPS and went with the 14oz rib eye steak ($47.95) served with house salad, vegetables, baked potato and French Onion soup (they give you the fixins' here!) while I wanted to lay low and eat an appetizer as dinner choosing the Shrimp Cocktail ($22.95). While waiting for our food, I grew even more in love with GPS due to our amazing waitress who was funny, sassy and sweet; making us feel like we were family. I wish I could remember her name because she was both a character and a doll. The soup arrived first and I should note that French Onion Soup is probably my favorite so I am very picky; and I absolutely LOVED the soup at GPS. A perfect ratio of cheesy bread atop a hearty, homemade broth with notes of mushroom flavor that I am not hating on! This was some darn good soup! My boyfriend's steak entrée was quite appetizing with colorful and crisp green beans, carrots and zucchini and a large baked potato with the a juicy, perfectly seared ribeye steak. Our amazing waitress came armed with a caddy of butter, sour cream and spring onions that is loaded onto your dish per your requests and she did NOT skimp! The waitress basically glopped on an entire margarine tub-size serving of butter onto the potato PLUS a mega scoop of sour cream and a bath of spring onions. Now, I know this may sound gross and like a heart attack waiting to happen; but trust the process at GPS because it is PERFECTION. All that fat is delicious and you can still taste the perfectly baked potato while the vegetables are primo al dente and some of the best, if not THE best, side vegetables I've had. The steak was ideally seasoned with the cut of the meat shining through. Honey, GPS is IT! My Shrimp Cocktail was lesser in quantity than I assumed BUT the shrimps were large and very fresh/of quality versus just some defrosted shrimps. The amazing part was that my boyfriend requested another half order of the Shrimp Cocktail off menu because I was still hungry and GPS actually accommodated fulfilling a half order (at a half charge). The customer service here is faultless. My boyfriend is the King of Cheesecake and ordered the GPS slice at $11. The cheesecake was thick and creamy and although not anything fancy; passed the cheesecake test nevertheless. My only complaint? The ladies room which desperately needs a remodel as it was uncomfortably old, bare-bones and dirty. George Petrelli Steakhouse is so very special serving up delicious food in an aesthetic that takes you back to the Golden era of Hollywood. GPS is absolutely recommended for your next steakhouse throwback dinner.

We got zucchini fries which were also a bit meh but the atmosphere itself was really nice. Comfortable booths, bussers constantly going by to refill waters and pick up plates. The salads were also just ok but once I got the French onion soup, WOW it was amazinggggg If I could order it everyday I would, it was that good! When the meal came, I got the lamb, omg. Especially for the prices, it was amazing! I saw other reviews prior that were a flip of the coin but I definitely got the good side of the coin if that's the case. So good! The baked potatoe was perfectly cooked as well with all the toppings. The steamed vegetables were not very good but overall, 100% worth it!
