Love these guys! Matt and his entire crew were always on time, professional, and we couldn't be happier with how our bathrooms turned out. I'm so glad I found Somerset! It was the best thing ever to have their support, help, and guidance on my project. I'll echo what others have said about Matt being not only very helpful on esthetic and quality of materials, he looks at how things are set up and asks questions about your home and habits to help you make the best choices on function. The suggestions he made were priceless, and he made sure I got everything I needed from IKEA. He even custom made a cabinet that was backordered and holding up the project so we could move forward and still have the right size for our design. I have a kitchen that looks not only amazing, it works well for the storage I need, the type of cooking I do and I'm so incredibly happy with the end result. read more

We hired Somerset West to remodel our kitchen. We made the right choice. To keep costs down but without skimping on quality and style, we went with Ikea kitchen cabinet boxes with cabinet fronts by Semihandmade. As such, it was critical to find a contractor who had a lot of experience with this type of project. Matt came out for an initial consultation and provided a proposed design plus a written estimate and project timeline. We were impressed by his thoroughness and knowledge across all aspects of the project. Matt, Edan, and the Somerset West team handled the entire kitchen design. They completed the selection and ordering of the Ikea and Semihandmade parts needed. This is no easy feat if you've never done this before since you can easily forget to purchase needed items. Once all the materials were purchased and delivered, Matt and team went to work immediately. Somerset West managed all stages of the project from demolition, plumbing, electricity, flooring, countertop installation, cabinet assembly and carpentry, and painting. We found the entire team to be professional and skilled. Communication with Matt and the team was excellent. Matt kept us updated on the schedule, let us know if we needed to purchase anything for the next phase, and informed us of any change orders. There were unforeseen additional costs once the walls were opened with the wiring needing to be replaced, but not because of poor planning by Somerset West. Matt went above and beyond by providing good recommendations for tile vendors, suggesting features to uplevel the look of the kitchen without pressure, and handling the ordering and pick up of Ikea parts that weren't readily available. He even picked up a microwave to replace our broken one when we couldn't do it ourselves. Our kitchen is worlds better than it was and the Somerset West team is to thank for a relatively smooth process. We highly recommend Matt, Edan, and the rest of the Somerset West team for their home remodeling services. read more

My wife and I moved into a new townhome in September of 2022 and needed a room expansion, taking a 6x8 foot space to 10x8, which would be converted into a small office. Matt and the team were AMAZING! They gave great recommendations and feedback and worked efficiently. What I appreciated most, and what is a testimony to who they are, is that upon completion, there were a few things that didn't come together as I had hoped. No problem. Matt and the team quickly jumped in and made adjustments. The project was a huge success, and I will definitely call them on my next project. read more

Matt and his team built my dream house! The whole experience has been wonderful. This is my first home and first remodel, I was completely clueless and nervous about the whole process. Matt was really great about explaining everything to me, in detail :), always making sure I was comfortable and confident in the millions of decisions that had to be made. Matt also communicates, a lot. So you will always know where things stand. He also has a great eye and a keen sense of what the customer wants and what is practical. My advice, is to listen to Matt, he is usually right :) Jose, the electrician, is amazing, and everyone else that worked on the house has always been so kind and respectful. Overall I could not be happier with the partnership and the end product is exactly what I wanted. I would use Somerset West again, no question. read more

Somerset West completed a full remodel of the kitchen in our 1961 A. Quincy Jones mid-century modern home in May 2018, and we are thrilled with the results. The process was generally handled as smoothly as one could expect, and our point man at the company, was always extremely responsive and understanding of our needs. We found Somerset West while searching for local contractors who work with Ikea cabinets, and immediately upon meeting with them, we knew that they were on the same page with us, and would be easy to work with, particularly in comparison to other contractors we met. While we went into the process with a fairly well-developed plan for the space, Somerset West provided us with excellent insights based on their experience, and we ended up making a few changes that have definitely benefited the final product. Trying to balance the character of the house while making the kitchen far more ergonomic and functional, in a fairly tight space, was definitely a challenge, but all efforts were made to pull it off with aplomb. The subcontractors employed by Somerset all delivered excellent results, and were generally prompt and always pleasant. We were certainly somewhat demanding about the quality of finishes, and the contractors absolutely met the mark, coming back to correct the small issues that are bound to come up on any construction project. Overall, I feel the key points to the excellence of Somerset West as a contractor for remodeling are: a willingness to listen and discuss to find creative/optimal solutions to complex issues; a commitment to extremely high quality and precise finished work; open and responsive communication at all times. I would without hesitation use this company again, and we likely will as we make further upgrades to the house. read more

After a bathroom leak under marble and some remediation/demolition, I was left for a few months with an non-working bathroom and a ton of back and forth with insurance. A friend recommended Matt at Somerset- they came the same day I called to take a look, give us their thoughts and submit a quote for getting our bathroom back and running again. Of all the different quotes we got, theirs was the most reasonable, detailed and had the most knowledge and expertise behind it. Matt never hesitated to answer any questions, no matter how silly they were, and he helped tremendously in navigating the insurance portion of the work. They took any issues that arose with stride, such as when we discovered that the previous owners of our house hadn't properly waterproofed- and that they'd left the original tile behind the walls. They were able to restore our marble tiled bathroom & shower to its original condition and their tile guys were the best- very good at problem-solving and really know their stuff. I highly recommend this company as they work hard and quickly without forgoing detail. read more

Somerset West is great to work with for all your remodeling needs. My wife and I moved to LA and had been looking for a reasonable condo (haha) for about a year. We wanted something move-in ready for the next 5-10 years that wouldn't take a lot of work. Looking for properties like that though, it became clear that anything we liked was completely out of our budget. The only way to get what we wanted was to take on a fairly large remodel project, and because of Edan, Matt, TJ and the whole Somerset West team, we sure are glad we did. For reference our project included redoing the floors, lighting, living room, bathrooms, and kitchen of our condo. I'll break it down on the three metrics by which I most appreciate the Somerset West team: Keeping the project in Budget, Bringing the project in quickly, and Quality of the work. Budget: Edan was very upstanding here. You hear horror stories of budgets ballooning before your eyes. Put an extra 50% in reserve just in case they is something we heard all too often in launching this process. But our budget was tight and we didn't have that sort of flexibility. Edan gave an extremely competitive quote and sold me with the idea that this is a no nonsense quote. They would get all the included work done for the price discussed. Obviously, some things happen that can be a bit out of everyone's control, but in our case Edan kept everything well within 7% of the initial budget even with a variety of unforeseen challenges cropping up. They also worked with us to set up a payment plan that was manageable for everyone. Speed: Matt and team were almost always at work, even on weekends in some cases! While the speed estimate wasn't met exactly, I never felt like there was a drop off in people working hard, and that's best you can ask for in any project. Quality: We're very satisfied with the quality, the Somerset West team not only made our Ikea cabinetry look like custom made high end cabinetry, our bathrooms look luxurious, but they also went above and beyond at every occasion. For instance, there was a leak right near the end of the project coming unexpectedly from the floor above us. The Somerset West team determined that it was caused by a backed up drain and were able to circumvent that drain for our washer dryer, to protect us from the leak going forward (all within the budget). This was highly appreciated. Long story short: Give these guys a chance for your remodeling needs. They're trustworthy, care about their customers, and work hard to make you happy. read more

If you're looking for a reliable contractor for your home improvement project, look no further! Somerset West Inc exceeded my expectations and more! Mat and his awesome crew work efficiently and clean. Excellent communication, so that you know where you are every step of the way. My husband and I hired Mat and his crew for a bathroom remodel. We were quoted a timeline of 8 weeks max to complete the project, but were pleasantly surprised when they finished a little over 5 weeks. They also corrected major plumbing and cosmetic issues that were a result of shoddy work from a project that took place prior to finding Somerset West. Wish I had known about these guys before hiring the other guy. Would have saved us a lot of money and heartache. Shout to Mat and his crew: Sal, Jose, Ever, Albert and all the rest! Thank you so much... You guys did an amazing job! read more

We had water damage from a kitchen sink leak that ruined our floors in the kitchen and dining room. Unfortunately, the floors have been discontinued so we had to decide on another replacement option. We called Somerset after receiving a referral from 2 of my co-workers who used them for their full home remodel. Our PM was Matan and he was very responsive throughout the whole process. He was also helpful when it came to design decisions for the floor replacement (he has a good eye!). He was never pushy but we trusted his opinion since he does this everyday. No matter the request, he was on top of it with a solution or an answer. It is hard to find contractors who are honest and reasonable so I will definitely work with Somerset again for any other remodeling I may need to do. read more

Love these guys. I needed to redo my floor when I got my house in April of 2015 and they were super quick about it. I specked out 2 other companies first and kept getting the feeling that they were overcharging me and up-selling me to things that I didn't need. Working with Matt felt like I was dealing with a friend. The price was reasonable and they covered about 1200 sq ft in one day. They were able to get good deals for me on the laminate for my living room and carpet for my bedrooms, at least better than what I was quoted by the other companies. I would definitely recommend working with them. read more

I recently had them install my IKEA kitchen. I am giving 2 stars because they did a decent job of that, even though it took longer than they quoted me by about 2-3 days. Gene was great at installing and answering all my questions. Unfortunately they are very hard to get a hold of. They would tell me someone was coming the next day and they would call me at the end of the day, then no call. My bad review is for how they ended the job. During installation they damaged one of the cabinet doors. After I payed the full amount, Gene said they would refund me for the door and install it no problem. Well I found the door online. The website said it could only be mailed and not picked up. So i ordered it. I then send them the receipt. I was told they would not pay for shipping, because they would have picked it up and they found one in Covina. i live in Burbank. I argued my point but he was very adamant. So in retrospective, i should not have paid in full when there was damage. i also should have demanded they get the door and then install. Also, should've hired a company who cares about their clients. Did I mention the shipping was only $40. read more

In summer of 2013 I had a pipe burst in a property I own. The water damage destroyed walls, kitchen cabinets, and floors. I had no contacts in the area and after interviewing three contractors who wished to complete the project I took a gamble and went with Somerset. They were unproven, young, but very professional from the start. I also like to add that to date, I have used an approved Ikea installer on three kitchen remodels, but have found they cut corners as Ikea forces them to operate with a fixed budget. Somerset knows the Ikea system very well, as well as some hacks. Somerset did the following: - remodeled a kitchen for which I provided all the appliances - installed and finished drywall - remodeled a bathroom - installed new flooring - painted - repaired other minor items - installed custom lighting I had designed by a third party All the work was done within budget. There were a few times when they were running late or the crew had not cleaned up, and with an email or simple text I was able to get everything resolved quickly. Overall, I was very pleased with their work and their efficiency. read more

Here's how most contracted home renovations wrap up: you, the homeowner, are sick as hell of dealing with the contractor. No matter how fine their work may be, you just want it to be finished and to never deal with them again. It seems like it's an unwritten rule of the work. So was not the case with Somerset West. For our kitchen renovation, they offered a fair price and got us an incredible product that my wife routinely declares her love for. The schedule was reasonable, and though struck with delays (by no fault of theirs), and additional costs (usually due to our tastes), one of their single greatest strengths was keeping our eyes on the prize. Edan was our main point of contact, and keeping us focused on the final product was a skill he excelled at, even above his formidable design, style, and business sense. No matter the delays or costs, he was there to remind us that we absolutely had to be happy with the product, and if we weren't, he'd help ensure we were. Likewise, Matt was the main hands-on on-site supervisor, and he was a constant presence throughout the project. There were few decisions during construction that Matt was not a part of crafting, and no issues where he could not present a solution. Together they kept the lines of communication open and clear, routinely checked in with us on progress, timeline, and budget, and ultimately they and their crew delivered a quality product I'm compelled to show off to everyone who walks in the door. So if in the case of most renovations, the norm is the strong desire to run as far from your contractor and as fast as you can, I can offer only one summation: I can't wait to hire Somerset West for our next project. read more

Somerset West remodeled my BH home. From floors to ceiling , bathrooms and showers, tile and hardwood floors, electrical and plumbing, painting and siding, foundation and elevated ceiling, gutters and new roof, windows and doors and the garage. The main construction took only 9 month and the guys worked around the clock with enthusiasm , professionalism and courtesy. I liked the turn-key method and when I was ready to move in, they even supervised the TV and other media and communication equipment installation and setting. Bottom line...if I ever remodel another house , I know who to call. read more

I had Somerset West install an IKEA kitchen in my new house. I designed it at IKEA, ordered everything and had it delivered. I hired Somerset to demolish my old kitchen and install the new cabinets and counter. It was a very simple installation, no built-in appliances or anything. They did a great job with the install itself, so 4 stars. I had some issues with demo and repair but it was mostly me wishing I had known things or done things differently. If I could do it again, I would have done the demo separately and spaced it out so I would have time before install to patch things up. These guys don't patch, and I wish they had told me that sooner. (In fact, it would've been great if they told me that AND made the proper recommendation that I patch everything before install, if they could not.) I had to make a split-second decision whether to send them home and reschedule them so I could patch things up on my own, OR just move ahead with install as they were already at my house ready to start. In the interest of time and money, I went with the latter. I currently have a piece of plaster missing behind my counter top and a hole that goes out to the exterior that I will do my best to fix after the fact. Also, after demo, Somerset discovered some shoddy electrical work done previously. I had to use their electrician (who came with a hefty upcharge) to fix it because I had no choice--mine was out of town for the holidays. And who knows if I could've gotten him to come out the first thing the next day anyway? So again, if I had done demo separately, I would've had time to do this repair with my own contractor. They originally quoted 1-2 days. In the end, it took 2.5 days which is pretty good. One day was entirely devoted to demo so it would've been wishful to think they could do it all in as little as one day. read more

Amazing work. They designed and remodeled our historic craftsman and did a beautiful and professional job. Matt and Edan were a pleasure to work with from the designing to the finishing touches. While keeping the integrity of the old house, they gave the inside a beautiful new flow: brand new bathrooms, bright and open common space, a gorgeous new kitchen, new oak floors, the whole thing. They were a pleasure to work with throughout. We feel so fortunate to have found Somerset West, an excellent licensed general contractor that is also an experienced IKEA kitchen cabinet installer. Edan and his team worked with us to do a complete remodel of our condo new kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, paint, electrical, lighting, ceiling fans, the works. It was critical for us to work with a reliable, trustworthy company, as we had to handle this remodel from a remote location. Edan and his brother Matt took care of everything obtaining permits, scheduling inspections, ordering materials, and of course, managing and performing the work. As with any remodel of an older home, they encountered unexpected issues, but they handled them without a sweat. They consulted with us regularly via phone, e-mail, text, and video chat to keep us apprised of progress and to obtain our feedback. Somerset West implemented our design and utilized their expertise to address any and all issues that arose. They even helped us with furniture assembly, appliance installation, and TV mounting. In the end, we walked into a completely remodeled, furnished condo that looked better than we had even imagined it could be. Thank you Edan and Matt for all your hard work and your attention to detail. We highly recommend Somerset West for any remodel job, from an IKEA kitchen remodel to a full home remodel. I was new to Los Angeles when I decided to go ahead with a complete kitchen gut and remodel to improve the value of my new, built in 1983 West Side condo. On the basis of their online reviews, their experience working with IKEA cabinets and Edan's design layout, I went with Matt and Edan of Somerset West. They are intelligent, talented and hard-working young men with a strong work ethic and a crew of professionals, including multiple threat Gene and super-electrician Jose. The experience was at times traumatic as all such projects are, and we had had our differences of opinion at times. But I felt good being able to make my own contribution since I work from home, and the final product speaks for itself. My new kitchen takes visitors' breath away and is now my favorite room in the place (it was my least favorite). Matt and Edan have been very responsive to follow-up questions and slight tweaks that have had to be made, no charge. I've even asked them for an estimate for a follow-up job, restoring my wet sink. I have already recommended Matt and Edan to a neighbor, who has been over to see my new kitchen. Like I said, it speaks for itself. read more
