I stopped by during the distillery district winter village. They have hot chocolate, gelato, and of course more chocolate! I like how they have glass walls so you can see inside the chocolate laboratory. I ended up spending around $200 CAD buying various chocolates as souvenirs for friends, family, and myself. They have a lot of chocolates with different flavors. If you have a peanut allergy I would be careful. The packaging on the back of my items warns there could be trace amounts of tree nuts and other allergens. Prices vary but seem relatively reasonable for the high quality. A small-medium box of assorted truffles was $14 CAD. The birch chocolate bar was around $50 CAD. Smaller items like the bagged toffee was around $7-8 CAD each. I also purchased a little gift bundle with a squirrel cup, biscotti, and hot chocolate. The biscotti was a hit! The gift recipient told me it's the best biscotti she's ever had. I was also told the texture of the truffles was really good! The gianduja travel is deliciously smooth. It's like a very elevated version of ferrero rocher or Nutella. The spiced toffee was very good too! It wasn't too sweet. You could keep eating it. It didn't taste like a candle which can often happen with gingerbread foods. Soma chocolate was a wonderful find! Absolutely one of the must-visit spots at the Distillery District :) The chocolate treats there are so delicious and very creative. SOMA is probably the first ones in Toronto to continuously offer spicy Mayan chocolate (in a chocolate shot or in a hot chocolate drink!). In the summer, I also order the affogato (espresso with gelato ice cream!) All the chocolate truffles are amazing here; you seriously can't go wrong with any one of them. My all-time faves are: the one with pop rocks, the whiskey one, the balsamic vingear one, and the one with the cherry inside (sorry, I don't rmb the actual names lol). Recent visit, I tried the new jasmine one, and the thai tea one, which were both very fragrant and tasty! I also high recommend the roasted corn tumbled in chocolate, the almond toffee clusters, and the old school dark chocolate for that rough, grainy texture ;) My mouth is already drooling thinking about them. Truffles were delicious! I loved the Ecuador and Venezuela rectangular ones - so rich and perfect for dark chocolate lovers. Maya hot chocolate was very unique; I loved the blend of spices (it's actually kind of spicy). We had it in the summer, but i can imagine it'd be great to order in the winter. Gelato was also delicious. The banana butter was SO good and truly tasted like fresh banana. The hazelnut was also pretty good. Seating is pretty limited. What a great chocolatier experience! My boyfriend loves chocolate and I wanted to buy him a treat so I came here. They have SO MANY OPTIONS. From fresh drinks to in house made treats to their signature chocolate products, I didn't know where to start! I noticed a lot of people around me came in to buy Soma chocolates as gifts for loved ones, including myself, so it was really nice that the staff was super knowledgeable about their products and gave great recommendations. I loved the packaging on everything and the area is very spacious although I wish they had more seating. I ended up purchasing a 7 piece fresh truffle box, bag of mint "drinking chocolate", and a cup of their signature Maya hot chocolate. As someone who doesn't think of chocolate or spicy stuff as their first choices, I was a little nervous to taste the heat having never tried anything like this but I really enjoyed it! Definitely a must try, ask for fresh semi whipped cream on top as well! The price was pretty reasonable as well, I paid around $6 for a good size. You can taste the quality in the ingredients they use, it may be a little on the pricier end but I think it's absolutely worth the money especially if it's your first time here or if you're not familiar artisan chocolate makers. We came here around 3pm on Friday. It's a nice open store with gelato and hand made candy. We ordered eight handcrafted truffles of different flavors, affogato and bichiron (Italian coffee drink) Everything was great. The gelato in the affogato - delicious paired well with the espresso. We came here for the gelato. It did not disappoint. The pistachio gelato is exceptional, it taste's literally like you are eating pistachio. Best pistachio ice cream I've ever had. The dark chocolate ice cream is very good as well, so creamy and rich and tastes like premium chocolate. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Service is great and first class. Was touring the distillery district when I can across Soma. I already had it bookmarked from reading about great places to get hot chocolate in Toronto. This shop is all about chocolate and offered several forms of chocolate treats. I bought a few chocolate gifts to take back home. Soma was clean and bright on the inside. I ordered an affogato for the first time with a shot of intense hot chocolate instead of expresso. It was a wonderful treat. Came here on a Thursday afternoon and we were the only customers in the space which made the entire ordering process relatively quick. I had seen comments online recommending the concentrated shot drink and I was excited to try! They had a nice selection of chocolate bars and I got one of the dark chocolate ones as a gift. The price was pretty solid and it made for a nice present. They have seating outside ( none inside unfortunately ) and since the day was pretty nice when we went, we were fine grabbing a table in the space, but I imagine it can get quite cold outside otherwise. The drink itself was super rich and honestly a little difficult to finish, but as a fan of dark chocolate personally, it was a fun experience overall. I'd recommend trying it in shot form just for the experience, but I'm sure it would taste much more palpable getting it in a drink form with milk or something else to help dilute it. I always love this place. To my knowledge this is the first Soma location. I'm glad they have more locations now but this remains a favourite when I'm in the Distillery District. The christmas market was open which was why I came to the Distillery & they had a lineup for getting into the store. But I was okay with that because they were being responsible about the capacity limits. The lineup went reasonably fast too. Inside the service was quick & friendly. I bought a bunch of their cookies (with chocolate inside of course). Spent a good chunk of money but their cookies are soooo good! And I don't indulge in them very often. So totally worth it. Soma is a fantastic place for truffles and chocolate...and a keystone piece of the Distillery District. We love the chocolate and the Spicy Mayan hot chocolate..but because of Covid we just haven't visited the area for a while. But with things getting back to normal and Valentine's Day around the corner picking up a love box made sense. A few truffles and some interesting bars will last a few weeks. We almost went overboard and picked up too many more truffles because the amazing flavours they offered are so unique. Located right in the Distillery District, Soma is a must visit!! We checked it out during the Christmas market and bought lots of goodies to give as gifts. Obviously bought some chocolate for ourselves too!! I was intrigued by some of their flavors, like their fruity flavors because I'm a fan of mixing chocolate and fruit! The Mango Chili Bar had a nice kick of chili to complement the sweet, creamy, and tart mango. The Raspberry Bar was one I was most looking forward to. It did not disappoint, with its bold and sour flavor of raspberry. If you're a lover of raspberries, you can't leave without this! They have microbatches of some of the specialized chocolates. We tried two of the 2018 released chocolates: the "Abstract Chocolate Science with roasted cacao nibs", which was a test of blending different chocolates for "peak deliciousness". The cacao nibs added a perfect balance of texture and flavor as we scarfed it down (just kidding, we savored each of the chocolates as we knew we weren't coming back for a while). We also had the "Dark Fire, with spices & chili" which was one of my favorites. The spices and chili actually packed a good punch, cooled down by the chocolate itself. My personal favorite was surprisingly one of their "Plain and Simple Bars": the Strawberry Black Pepper Bar. I loved the combination of strawberry with the chocolate, also with the slight hint of the pepper. We actually came back the very next day, before we left town to get more chocolate and to try the drinking chocolate - Maya. Took it to go and wish that we got one each, instead of sharing. Don't make my mistake!! Get your own and you will not regret it! They do have an online store, which I will be looking at often! In the summer, I absolutely loved their Blueberry basil sorbet and Pistachio gelato. Both so refreshing and natural tasting! In the winter though, I was quite impressed with their Classic Hot Chocolate. For $5.09+tax you get a medium sized cup of real melted dark chocolate into your choice of water OR milk (regular, lactose-free, soy, or oat) at no extra cost. Why didn't I buy more?!?! I knew I should have listened to my inner fattie and bought more and I am sorely regretting it. Yes. Soma is pricey, but it is well worth the splurge if you're a chocolate lover. I had the key lime pie truffle and Vietnamese coffee truffle and bought a mango lassi bar to go. They infuse fruit into their chocolates soooo well. That key lime pie truffle was amazing and the mango lassi bar was a gift for my bf. He inhaled that bar yesterday after saying that he was gonna savor it. It tasted like pure mango and that's how much fruit they infuse into the bar. I normally only make it out to the Distillery District in winter time for the Christmas Market but in a rare turn of events I was here in summer. It seems like most of the reviews I see on here about steaming mugs of hot chocolate but Soma has ice cream and gelato in the summer! They have a limited number of flavours of gelato and sorbet but they had some unique ones like a Fior di Latte and a Thai Coconut. I really wanted something refreshing so I went with raspberry sorbet in a cup. The cup is a compostable cup and the spoon is also 100% compostable! The raspberry was sweet and tart - a perfect refresher. We actually didn't realize that you can order up to 2 flavours per order but I bet the chocolate would have went amazing with the raspberry. I ended up buying Soma chocolates as souvenirs from my trip to Toronto and they did not disappoint. There are lots of unique flavors there, like mango chili and black currant, and all are packaged nicely. You can also pick and choose different items and have them gift wrapped for $2 extra. I really like the Old School milk chocolate. It's not overly sweet, has a nice crumbly texture, and is made with only 3 ingredients! The chocolates are a bit pricey, but you can tell they are good quality made with attention to flavor. My friends that received them as gifts were all really happy.
