I was with this dental office for 4 years but no longer since my last appointment which turned out to be a disaster thanks to their office managers/receptionists handling billing & insurance paperwork. They weren't very clear when they told me they changed their relationship with my dental insurance and did not provide clarification on what that meant. This isn't the first time this has happened though, as i take it they aren't transparent with the customer for a reason to collect more fees from you. I should've seen the red flags since the office started asking me to pay up front for the cleaning services my second to last visit. This should NEVER happen. I don't even recall a time where I have to pay up front and then the insurance sends me a check. That's why I pay insurance when it comes out of my paycheck. So do push back if they ask you to do this. My experience from other dental offices have been great since they were very transparent and clear as to how they were going to bill my insurance for xyz service. And if it wasn't clear, they went above and beyond to give me an answer. However in this case, before the holidays, I ended up paying significantly more for a simple cleaning and x rays. I didn't expect to foot the bill this time (almost $500!!!). I didn't expect to pay this much since I was planning on using that money to buy gifts for my family but I digress.. I expected better from this office since they take pride in taking care of their patients.. But wait there's more! They also tried to bill me for a procedure that never happened, specifically a fluoride procedure that I remember saying no to. If I didn't call my insurance, this charge would've stayed on there unnoticed, which is unethical. Normally insurance has to go back and forth with their office to take off any additional fees or services that shouldn't have been charged. But because it was not explained to me that they were out of network, I had to foot the bill this time. I didn't expect for this to happen at all due to negligence from their office. I understand the attitude that may come from all this since it's tempting to think "not my insurance nor my money, so not my problem" but this was a new low for them. I don't know if I was the only federal employee in this office and I got cut out since it didn't benefit their office to do business with my insurance and I got caught in the middle of all that, but regardless this was a horrible experience. I can't say I recommend this office after things unfolded the way they did and the patient (me) got screwed over. That was the final straw for me. So I say all this for you (the customer) to be advised of the risk. If you are going with this insurance, demand that they be very clear as to how they will bill their insurance, and what was charged. Do better Newbury Park Dental Arts. You've lost my business.

She called and texted me with the appointment for the next morning. By her action it shows she cared about me. At the appointment she told me I had to go to an oral surgeon to get the tooth extracted. She called the oral surgeon office for me and said I needed to be seen. Long story short the surgeon said Dr. Markiewicz diagnose was correct and the tooth had to be extracted. Dr. Markiewicz is an extremely caring doctor. She has a bubbly and extremely nice personality. I also like her staff Nellie too. She surrounds her self with great office staffs. I am extremely grateful and highly recommend Dr. Christina Markiewicz.

Called Conejo Dental Group on 11/18/24 to discuss the situation and my desire to change. Spoke to receptionist, forgot her name. Detailed the potential cost given it being EOY with insurance. She suggested I reach out to my current dentist to send over any x-rays for consult. Here's where they failed and hence why I am writing this review. Receptionist indicated I would be charged $44 to meet with the dentist for a consult. I indicated that given I just had an appointment with my new dentist where a filling was filled and recommendation was to replace an old crown, I didn't think it was reasonable to expect me to pay for a consult given the recent appointment, use of my insurance, business of a new crown, etc. I told the receptionist I would like to hear from the dentist about waiving this $44 fee and that I would get my dental x-rays from my old dentist and await a response. She never called me back and today is 12/6/24. Beware, if a dentist cannot follow up after a potential new patient has spoken to the office for a good 15 minutes, gotten their old x-rays from their prior dentist, then apparently $44 is more important to them than a patient that has insurance and has a long history of doing plenty of dental work and paying for it. Would be a common courtesy to respond if that was your stance. Now you get to live with this Yelp review.

Now, going to the dentist is as painful and daunting as getting a haircut. The reception staff is TOP notch... Not only do they call you a couple days before your appointment, but when you walk in, you are always greeted. I find that rare these days. Dr. Zweig is my dentist, and also a very respected member of the community and not only is he professional, and funny, but he has a passion for what he does. You can see it in the office. All the technology is cutting edge. I had to get a root canal once, and not only did he get me scheduled with a surgeon who did the procedure (molars, which he doesn't do), but he prepped me, made the appointment for me, i had it done, and came back to his place.. Now here is where it gets good... Remember I said fan of technology. Most dentists will give you an artificial cap and send OUT for a crown. He has all that stuff IN THE OFFICE. I simply watched as he took pictures of the tooth, and then customized it on his computer. 15 minutes later, he puts a square resin brick into what looks like a small "C&C&" machine and its carving out my new crown right before my eyes. Pretty cool stuff, especially since most people have to do a second visit. 15 minutes after that, he glued it on and i was outta there. GREAT service, great experience. If i could give it 6 stars I would. This is also a great place for teeth cleanings. I had been there several times and had had different technicians, who didn't really impress me, but then I was scheduled with Ramon Castillo. This guy was awesome. He not only did a great job but his personality, and demeanor was quite pleasant, considering he had sharp metal instruments in your mouth... Before the conversation was done, the cleaning was done and 45 mins later I was gone. If you are reticent to go to the dentist... Don't be... These guys are the best and will provide a pleasant experience.

I went to Newbury Smiles about three months ago for a routine cleaning. At that visit, I was told I…read morehad "deep pockets" in my gums, but no one mentioned cavities, an urgent treatment plan, or any significant issues. I was also never shown any X-rays, and I did not meet with the dentist -- only the hygienist. I returned in November for another cleaning, and immediately after the appointment I was suddenly told that I had three cavities between my teeth on both sides of my mouth and that treatment was "imperative." I was completely blindsided. When I said this was the first time anyone had mentioned cavities, the dentist insisted that I had been told months earlier -- which is simply not true. I clearly remember that conversation, and none of this was discussed. I wasn't shown X-rays at that time because they hadn't even been reviewed yet. The dentist only looked at my August X-rays in November and then accused me of "neglect." His exact words were: "Neglect adds up, and it comes in the form of tooth decay. You've done a good job, but now you have a lot of damage to repair." That comment alone was unprofessional, dismissive, and deeply unsettling. Then they slid a $2,500 treatment plan across the table as if this had all been previously agreed upon. I felt pressured, blindsided, and very uncomfortable with how the entire situation was handled. Something didn't sit right with me, so I went to a highly rated dentist in Westlake for a second opinion -- a practice with consistent five-star reviews. They were incredibly welcoming and thorough. They were shocked by how few X-rays Newbury Smiles had taken and reviewed. After examining me and reviewing new films, they told me: * My gums are healthy * My teeth are in great shape * I do not have cavities * I do not need fillings * I do not need any of the treatment Newbury Smiles recommended The contrast was night and day. In my honest opinion: Newbury Smiles is not operating in the best interest of patients. I left feeling pressured, misled, and spoken to disrespectfully. The dentist is a snake oil salesman and a hustler, and it seems like his staff isn't been an enamored with him either. I'm grateful I trusted my instincts and sought a second opinion. I urge anyone considering this practice to be cautious and to verify recommendations elsewhere.

While periodontic work is never painless, they do what they can to make it as comfortable, quick and stress-free as possible. The office staff are always honest and helpful. While I have had them forget things occasionally, like sending in a prescription, they're quick to own up to their mistake and correct it. I do have two minor complaints about this office though, which aren't deal killers. One is that they do not process all of your benefits for you. I have AFLAC Dental for supplemental coverage, and their office will not file those claims. They instead insist that I submit these myself. What makes this awkward is that AFLAC will often pay THEM instead of me, so I have to drive back in to get reimbursed. This has happened twice now, and it's inconvenient and a little annoying. Two is just a personal thing. Their office decor is weird, discomforting and a little bizarre. Huge cast figures in gold of human bodies on the wall. Black velour furniture. And dozens of blank white shelves filled with what looks like small round plastic fake plants. It's like being surrounded by an army of chia pets. It's not a warm, relaxing atmosphere, but it's a minor thing that doesn't reflect on their work at all. I'm sure there's a professional decorator in Simi who could fix this in a day or two. If you find yourself in my situation , chose your dentist wisely, I luckily chose Jeremy Wilgus. I arrived on time and was immediately attended to by a bevy of smiling faces, all so friendly and comforting. Brenda H. Set up the I V for the sedative, yeah, I choose to sleep through the procedure. Brenda definitely had done this before, the I V was painless. As we waited for the Dentist, Brenda showed me some of the supplies that would be used and explained the procedure. This was done in a very relaxed and calm manner, which helped soothe my nerves. Doctor Wilgus arrived and calmly explained what I should expect and how to care for my mouth afterwards. After the sedative was administered we talked for about a minute and I was out. My next recollection was waking after the procedure. Other then feeling a bit groggy, I experienced no pain. In the week following the procedure, today, I've experienced very little discomfort, I was really pleasantly surprised, the procedure I dreaded was over and it wasn't bad at all. Actually, other than eating soft food, it was no big deal. This is the place to go for a case such as mine, you will be pleasantly surprised!
