Upon landing in Fort Lauderdale, Sol Luna ended up being my pick for dinner on the strip my first night there. There was live music playing and I was able to get seated right away. One thing that really stood out to me about Sol Luna was the incredible amount of seating. They had all kinds of seating inside--it was huge and they had TVs everywhere. It kinda reminded me of a massive Buffalo Wild Wings. They had bar seating inside as well. Then, they had a covered patio with a large selection of tables and that is where the live music was playing. The live music was actually really good and the musician did a wonderful job at interacting with the patrons. My server was really awesome and really attentive. He picked up quickly that I was from Utah and I am pretty sure he gave me double the alcohol for that simple fact lol. I finally decided on the fajitas and I must say...those fajitas were the best fajitas I have ever had in my entire existence. The seasoning on the chicken was out of this world. The toppings and extras that came with the fajitas were incredible as well. I would go back to Fort Lauderdale just for the amazing food I had at Sol Luna--yes, it was THAT good. They were also doing a drink special, which I am pretty sure was the whole reason I decided on Sol Luna out of all the places on the strip (I don't specifically remember because I drank quite a bit that night hahaha). They were running a special for a buy one get one free. However, one thing that I didn't take into consideration is that the buy one get one free deal is for MASSIVE drinks. So I got a Miami Vice for my first drink, then I may have been to out of it to have my second drink. However, the server and bartender were the coolest people in the world and let me take the free drink to go. That's how I knew I wasn't in Utah anymore, folks. My husband and I decided to stop in this place because we wanted small plates and drinks. This place was great! Service was 10+/10. The hosts were ALL so nice and friendly! The dj was playing great music and the outdoor seating was perfect with a great beach view. We opted for mojitos. My husband got a regular mojito and I got the coconut mojito, both were made great and my coconut flavor was on point. For food we shared the chicken tacos and ordered chips with guacamole. Again, really good! They also had a really sweet photographer who asked if she could take our pic and was kind enough to give us a free printout! Overall, a really great place for a small bite and great drinks! The Greek Salad was full of goodies and was fresh, crisp and not overly dressed. The calamari was tender and light and we didn't really need the "sauce", a little lemon juice and we were good to go! The only saving grace of this establishment is the live music. Service leaves wanting more. Much more. Our waiter abandoned us after bringing our dessert and tea and learning that we will not be ordering anything else. No one checked in on us the entire time we were occupying the table. Even Getting our bill was not as simple as it should be. We got tea and dessert at 9pm on a Monday and were told that since we are occupying a table at prime time evening slot, we must order alcohol. Which we did not want. So we were charged mandatory drink minimum. Not cool. Especially on a strip of cafes and restaurants that offer same live music and do not require you to pay for what you do not want. A letdown. Summary: business owners exploit labor for profits. Classic, but rarely do you see it so obviously. Just wanted a decent breakfast and while yes the food itself was good, it wasn't so great that it could excuse several decisions by the business' operating model. 1. A 15% service charge is tacked onto your check. This is NOT gratuity - you are still expected to tip your servers. It's explained that this charge goes to the back of house. Which tells me this owners of this place do not pay their back of house any kind of decent wage. For folks who have worked on restaurants you know how crucial these jobs are to a successful operation. Further more, the average age of the girls working tells me the owners are exploiting labor under the guise of "first job/gain experience." A server explaining a service charge and asking to be tipped? If I were the owner of this place I would be ashamed of myself. 2. Atmosphere: mind you, my wife and I wanted some breakfast. Why is there a DJ bumping house music at 10am on a Saturday morning to hungover patrons? Read the room my guys... This spot is dirty. Look up and you can see dust bunnies on fans, vents, and the lighting system. Massive fire hazards all over with the general lack of care & maintenance. You know what did look good? The bar area. I can see where the priorities lie. Tables and chairs need some serious updating. The aesthetic is very "let's spend as little as possible on anything and everything so it all falls apart and looks terrible when left outside to the elements." Which is this whole place. 3. No silverware - just plastic forks and knives. But real plates? If everything was roughly 5 bucks cheaper I could excuse this, but if you're charging restaurant prices then you better show up. 4. Food: it was fine. It won't win any awards but it will satiate you. I was a bit disappointed in the Mexican omelette as the eggs were over cooked in order to cook the vegetables inside, which were largely underdone anyway. I came here for the nightlife with a few friends during spring break. The bar was packed consistently when we went, the music was good as well. If I could give 0 stars, trust me I would. I know Solluna is out of business now, but this place was a horror movie times 10. Long story short the "manager" took 3 out of 7 of our credit cards, ran off with them and immediately swiped them all at the bar. Then managed to charge us all 100-280 each. Our total bill that we all told her we were splitting, was originally 280, so I'm still confused as to why we were charged over 500 dollars.. Just because we're in our early twenties doesn't mean we're stupid. Besides the fact, she was extremely rude and disrespectful toward us all. When we went up to get our cards from her, she called security and tried to escort us out while mentioning calling the police. That's where it went downhill rather quickly. After repeating myself, yelling over the loud music from the DJ, she took our order, which did arrive rather quickly. The fish & chips was delicious and the shrimp ceviche wasn't bad, hence two stars instead of one. Andrea NEVER came back to check on us. Once others came to clear the table, then she returned to ask if we needed anything else. We already refilled our own glasses with water bottles from our bags. Didn't want to do it, but we were left with no other option but to wallow in dehydration. The check arrives (they take and keep your credit card the minute you sit down). Yes, please keep the card for the full bill. She runs the card and there's a service charge added (20%, not the 15% on the menu when I asked what that covers). I've had service fees added to parties of XXX or more, not a couple. Instead of her explaining that it covers a) kitchen staff gratuity, b) DJ fees, c)betc., she grabs a menu and draws lines under "15% service fee added to checks." Really, Andrea? Our waiter was nice and attentive. He made several unprompted recommendations on the menu which I personally appreciate The view- You're right across from the beach and there is ample outdoor seating and live music. Cons: The price. It is really expensive. The portions aren't a bad size, but for the price you'd imagine they would be larger or higher end. We ordered 2 quesadillas and a plate of nachos off the apps menu. Those, a beer and two sodas came to almost $75 before tip. And while the food was tasty, it wasn't exceptional. Overall a 3 star review feels fair. It's not bad food. It's a great view.
