Surla was able to accommodate me super quick! I was a walk in and I really needed a touch up on my neck tattoo. She was totally receptive to my ideas, took a look at all of my inspiration imagery, my thoughts on placement and my preferences for the over all aesthetic I was after and was up front with me about what would work well in this medium and what wouldn't. Its hard to tell a potential client no and I really respect her skill in being honest with me there. I work with a lot of different artists in my professional day job- Christina takes the cake as an artist who works with flexibility, quality and integrity from start to finish. She does her homework, puts in time to fully develop her designs and is responsive when you communicate with her. She operates with outstanding artistic skill, an eye toward solid design and is attentive to placement on your body. You can't go wrong with this artist. Her advice and guidance will take you from a good idea into a really beautiful piece of artwork. In the end, we were able to narrow my ideas down and I have a large custom tattoo that is ten times better than what I had dreamed it would be. The artwork I have on my body completely reflects what I wanted it to reflect on every layer I had imagined. It took quite a few sittings spread out over a couple months (as is appropriate for the size of the piece)- and the plus here is that I got to talk to and get to know Christina throughout the process. She's a gem- not just as an artist who can give you beautiful and lasting artwork, but as a present and authentic human being who puts a lot of positive energy and light in this world. The staff at Royal Heritage are great-- the studio as a whole has always been super responsive when I email or need to adjust an appointment. They are all a great team and clearly have solid relationships with each other. Sitting through a session there is nothing short of enjoyable. This was my first tattoo and the entire experience from start to finish was totally positive. I have received so many compliments on Christina's work from so many friends and fellow artists- they see the quality in what she does and are just as excited as I have been about this process. I would get it reworked, and it would just be BLAH after about 1-2 years. So I had given up to have this boring bluish spot on my shoulder. But then, I thought, NO. Let's see what's possible and went to Zulu for a consultation. I was so pleasantly surprised and happy to meet Christina. Everywhere I had been before was so "metal" and kindof cold, but she was so very sweet and straight-forward in her advice. She advised me to go bigger with the design, which freaked me out at first, but in the end was the totally RIGHT call. I needed to OWN my tattoo and be proud of it. And so we worked together to enlarge the same design (because I still loved it). When I went in for the work, Christina was totally sweet and chill and so fun to talk to. I think I told her my entire life story. :) I am so happy with the end result and I will only go to her when I decide what my next tattoo should be. Gives a nice positive vibe and is very welcoming. After we filled out the necessary paperwork, Jun talked to us, showed us the design sizes. He was very professional. The single needle tattoo went smoothly, me and my husband were completely comfortable the entire time. And because Jun was familiar with the subject of the tattoo, it did feel he took extra attention to the details to make sure it was right. He wanted double bands around his forearm and Sam was able to sketch it out and do the tattoo on the same day. We were in and out within 1.5 hours. He explained the process and aftercare which made getting a tattoo seamless and less daunting. I was on the fence about getting a tattoo but my friend said if he got one I would have to get one too. I decided to get a runner with an ekg as I thought it was fitting for me. I wanted something small for my first tattoo and easily to keep hidden from my mom (sorry mom). He asked me to send him a picture of what I wanted and scheduled an appointment for Monday at 11am. Once Monday came I walked over and signed the consent form. He then printed out the tattoo and placed the outline on my chest and asked me if it was where I wanted it. Being a tattoo noob I trusted his judgement. After letting the outline dry I laid down and he began working on the piece. He said since it was a small tattoo and mainly lines there shouldn't be much pain and the healing process wouldn't be as long. It took about 30 mins to finish up the tattoo and the quality came out amazing. There was no pain at all and he went over the aftercare as well. I showed Sam this other tattoo I wanted and he said he would be able to do that as well. He says his art style is realism and anime so I can't wait to get more work done by him. He has been tattooing for 2 years now along with his apprenticeship. He told me to message him when I'm ready for my next piece. Maybe this tattoo thing is an addiction and will keep you coming back for more.
