To say they were creepy was an understatement. I dialed Evergreen-Washelli at Bothell and held my breath. Katrina Jacobson and I spoke for several minutes, but I knew after a minute or two I would use Evergreen-Washelli at Bothell to celebrate the life of my sister. Funeral director, Kevin Smith, put me at ease immediately despite the task of the necessary questioning. Kevin is a genuinely kind man whose demeanor is one of caring and grace. The level of professionalism shown by Kevin and Katrina was exemplary. I am not a fan of the traditional funeral nor was my sister. Kathy had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to laugh. Kevin and his staff have the broadminded view that allows one to tailor funeral services to make each event unique. Moreover, they were flexible and creative while planning Kathy's Life Celebration, offering creative ideas to make the celebration pertinent to Kathy's life and memorable to all who attended. I would recommend Evergreen-Washelli Bothell Life Celebrations to anyone in need of a kind and comforting place to find peace with the loss of a loved one.

She was nice enough, and had very good risk communications skills. However, apparently she was new, and needed a lot more training. She gave us a bit of inaccurate information. I would recommend doing research before you go. We also were looking for a Cadillac burial plot- and we made that very clear. After all, we would be dead. We didn't care. After meeting with her, she gave us the total due. We specifically said, "is this all? We done want our kids to have to pay for anything." She gave us four things our kids had to pay for. Flowers, obituary, Priest, reception. We wrote down what she said, and she confirmed the list. We were told the prices would we going up, and we had to pay before the end of the month. We agreed, and set up an appointment for the next week. Unfortunately, we got a call that the Chapel had an immediate need and we needed to reschedule. It was the following month. We showed up, ready to pay, and we did. As we got ready to leave, she said that only our plot was paid for, and there were two more parts we had to pay for. What???!??!! That raised price from $12,000 to $25,000. Sorry, I am not gonna spend that much to be buried. Found something more affordable. Make sure you look around unless you don't care. I feel bad for those that don't have the time to shop around because they have an immediate need. Be careful.

I wasn't sure where to begin with funeral planning until a relative had suggested using Butterworth, seeing her great experiences with them through various family members who had used their services. While I initially spoke with Nikola, I eventually ended up working with Kendra, who was incredibly patient with my very difficult family; Kendra worked double the hours when meeting with my family and worked her butt off in trying to help us find a Cantonese Buddhist monk who could assist with handling the entire flow of the ceremony. During our meeting, my indecisive elders kept changing their minds after making decisions and legitimately drove some to rip our hair out. I thank Kendra for remaining calm and collected while chaos ensued between family members. While Kendra is a newer member of Butterworth, her years of experience in this industry was demonstrated through her professionalism and I'm grateful to have worked with her throughout this very challenging time in my life. Every step along the way, Kendra checked in to ensure no mistakes were made and always accommodated to my family's ever-changing requests. On the day of, she was fantastic about making sure all our needs were met. Even when I gave her the nod to close the casket and my grandmother ran over because she didn't want the casket to close, Kendra immediately knew what to do and kept it open so my grandmother could truly have her final moment with my grandfather. I knew we were on a time crunch and honestly none of us wanted to say goodbye, but eventually it had to be done. Kendra was incredibly respectful when everyone was so emotional. Butterworth was definitely the more expensive option while we were shopping around but I had a great experience with them and see why my relative had recommended this particular funeral home. You essentially get what you pay for. Thank you, Kendra, for providing us with great service.

My aunts hired this funeral home to bury my great grandmother and my brother hired this funeral home to bury both of our aunts. My excellent experiences are largely due to Barbara Cannon's (Funeral Director Intern) professionalism, open-mindedness, sense of humor, and humongous heart. She's a true renaissance woman!!!!! Ask for Barbara if you call on Butterworth to help you. Btw, the Cremation Society Northwest is next door and Barbara also answers the phones on those calls. If you want to be hands off, they will take care of your details impeccably with utmost respect. But in death's regard, I'm like Little House on the Prairie old school. I feel it's my love-based obligation to be part of the transition when my relatives and friends pass on. I want to groom them, do their hair and make-up, dress them, give them one last spray of their favorite perfume or cologne, sing them their favorite song, just be with them before they're either presented in casket at their funeral service or before they're cremated. I want to make sure their favorite music can be played, their favorite flowers can be around, etc. There aren't many people now-a-days who feel the way I do or who want to do the things that I do for the dead. And there aren't many funeral homes that are sensitive or receptive to this -- they want to do their thing their way. Barbara is different so Butterworth is different. If you want to prepare your deceased, Barbara will make sure you have a private room to do it in. If you don't have your own, she'll bring you their assortment of cosmetics, hair brushes, etc. and she'll even help you with the dressing (you'd never know it but this woman is strong.) Barbara understands. She's interested in burial traditions in other other countries, in other cultures, etc. Arthur A. Wright Chapel (which is attached to the funeral home) is a sweet old-feeling chapel with a serene vibe. There's plenty of room for any type of service you'd like to have. They accommodate everything: Visitation, Memorial Service, Graveside Service, Chapel Service, Church Service, Committal Service, Special Gatherings. I wouldn't care if Butterworth were a few bucks more for burials or cremations, I'm a loyal customer regardless. Service extraordinaire. And they understand.
