Beautifully organized, colorful, and decorated space offering a wide variety of books, local gifts, and artisan goods + crafts. I bought "Homegoing" by Yaa Gyasi thanks to the thoughtful "staff pick" recommendations they have on little notecards for various reads around the store. They even have a dedicated children's area with a little play space for kiddos, and a cafe serving up baked goods and beverages for purchase. Highly recommend visiting this local neighborhood gem.

On a Thursday evening it was very easy for me to find parking right up front and pay the meter for an hour. The event started on time and we were able to do a Q&A with the authors (who are now NY best sellers, woot woot). After the Q&A we all stood in line to get our books signed. Everything was well organized so the line went by quickly. Kristely at the front desk was super helpful and also helped me out with a glass of wine. This will definitely be my new hangout spot to come and enjoy a drink while I indulge in a new book or two. Thank you so much Solid State for a memorable experience.

I found several titles from the past including "Not on my watch", "Mother Mary comes to me", and Linford Fisher's "Stealing America". Taylor Jenkinsfried's "Atmosphere" grabbed my attention for about ten minutes which was intriguing. I probably would spent much more time here if they had any place to sit down. There are 2 levels here, and pretty much every square inch is filled with some old relics. I think I will come back sometime, this time with my reading glasses.

Of course it even had that classic book smell. My favorite. There is an upstairs and a downstairs. It can be a little tight depending on the amount of customers inside. There is a wide range o books. Of course there is a lot of political themed books, its the area we are in. I was lucky to find Kamala Harris's book, "107 Days." Pricing was what I expected and supporting a local book store than the large box store down the street was where my heart was at. The books were well organized, and everything was nicely categorized. There was one employee working. They were not super engaging, but I chalk that up to library atmosphere. But, whenever they were asked a questions they were helpful. There is a lot of local advertising and they are supportive of the LGBTQ population.

I get it, they need to make money and I am always for supporting bookstores but it just seemed like a major rip off. I guess it is still better than going to a bookstore that only sells brand new books and it is a great way to find books that you wouldn't be able to find in those newer books-stores. As for Pricing as of 2026: Most books are at least 8 to 15. Lots of books at ticket price. Wouldn't really consider this a 'used bookstore' overall

But alas I do appreciate the new organized vibe of the store. It's a must-swing-by place for me every time I'm at Eastern Market. I think the pricing here is a bit on the more expensive side for used bookstores but it's the location, what can you do. The store is leaning more towards new publications rather than used books now. The handwritten notes/ descriptions of the shelves will make you feel like you're visiting a Trader Joe's (which ironically is also nearby) and adds to the store's charm! The funky chairs are always a fun photo op!

On top of that, they're a true community bookstore, giving back by providing free meals to people in need, which I find really admirable. My go-to order is usually an iced coffee (or hot, depending on the day), but I've also had their biscuit with egg, cheese, and bacon a few times. That biscuit is perfectly fluffy, the egg is creamy, and the bacon is on point--so good that I've thought about ordering a side of bacon just to have more. If you're in the area and need a cozy spot to work, this is it. I love that they have plenty of outlets (a rarity!) and even window seating. Great coffee, great food, and a mission worth supporting.
