I needed someone to look at my front door and see if it could be saved without replacing it immediately. The person who owns the condo is trying to save money and just wanted a temporary fix to get him through the next few months. So, those on here who know me, know what I do for a living. I am a credit manager for a door company with four branches! I personally know tons of door guys and carpenters. Some who even owe me a favor or two for not putting a lien on their jobs. I have known some of these people for years & I have been at my place of employment for close to 12 years. Here's the thing, I never mix my personal life with my business life. Could I get a new door, frames, hinges & everything else needed at a slightly discounted price? That would be a hard yes. Do I know a few carpenters & installers that wouldn't charge me for labor? Also a hard yes. I learned early on not to date contractors and I also learned not to have them in my home doing my repairs. I always try to use locally owned and operated businesses and I luckily found Solid Home Solutions right here on Yelp. Michael was great! He responded to my quote request quickly, was easy to communicate with and his rates are more than fair. My front door was repaired as much as possible for now and Michael did a wonderful job. Actually, he went above and beyond to make it work. When the job was completed, I was sent a receipt via text in addition to a well thought out text explaining what he did, pricing etc. I am happy I found Michael on Yelp. The estimate I was looking for was for removal of popcorn ceilings, replacing popcorn with knockdown texture and painting small kitchen/dining area, living room and 2 bedrooms at a property. Upon meeting with Alan, the estimator, I was given a very high verbal quote without any measurements even having been done. He also tried to convince me that knockdown texture was more expensive and work intensive than replacing with flat ceilings!, which was his strong recommendation. I knew this was not true. I had already done my research and had already spoken with other contractors. If they could not accommodate knockdown they should have said so or maybe they thought they could snow a lady however not this one. Would NOT recommend this company. read more

We hired Michael / Solid Home Solutions to provide Construction Management services for a large scale renovation for our home in Jupiter, initial budget was over $300k. Our home still is not complete after 18 months and we are well over $500k (for what was contracted to be a 3 month job - I understand COVID delays but our home being imcomplete 18 months in has nothing to do with COVID). The subcontractors that Michael hired did not complete the work to any kind of industry standard, we have had to redo almost everything that Michael did, which has almost doubled the cost of our renovation. He did not provide transparency or financial accounting of the hundreds of thousands of dollars sent over to Solid Home Solutions. After 3 months, when I demand that we review the budget and what had been sent, I received a spreadsheet that included unexplained expenses and excessive charges for the work done TOTALLING $67,000 WITH NO SUPPORTING INVOICES. There was no project management, documented change orders, oversight of the subconstractors provided, or review of their work, which was a core part of Michael's role as the Construction Manager, and after working with new people to fix the work, I now know that all of the subs Michael brought in were at very high prices. Since we were still living and working in our home we were forced to manage the subcontractors and provide them with guidance on what needed to be done, to the detriment of our own jobs and income. There was no project plan or thoughtfulness as to what should be done in what order. He hired painters to paint interior and exterior at a $23k cost, but it was done at the wrong time, so the paint is a mess given it was done in the middle of the project so it has to be completely redone. Michael came back to us with a $10k quote to redo the paint, when we already paid $23k. This was SHS's approach to everything that was called out by us as unacceptable quality of work, it all just had to be paid for again by us. For the work not done correctly (essentially everything) for the few times subs were brought back, it was after we escalated for weeks, and Michael was not there to supervise and review that work. When the installer of the baseboards and trim was brought back, I had to take a vacation day to supervise, while Michael literally went off on vacation. There was absolutely no focus or caring on the part of Michael to get us a quality home that was livable (we had no other place to live during COVID) for the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS we paid. After 4 months, we were living with just one tiny bathroom sink, and we had to harass Michael to get the kitchen sink cabinet prepared so that the sink could be installed and we could finally have a place to wash dishes (this is 4 months in). He stopped here on his way to another vacation in Key West, and complained about it the entire time he was here. He used the Bull Bag at our home to dispose of trash from other projects he was working on - when asked about this he said he was splitting the cost of the Bull Bag with the other client, but we were not able to find any evidence of that in the invoicing. We put our trust in Michael and the people he referred to us (including a $20K 'designer'), to help us build a quality home, and we were willing to pay a lot of $$ for that. What we have in return 18 months and over $500,000 later, is an incomplete home where not one thing (from floors to windows to cabinets to countertops to window sills) was done correctly. We are left here feeling that this project was all about the $$$ that Michael and his referrals could make off of us. And when things were done wrong and we asked that the subs be brought in to fix it, it was always 'well that's the designers job' or I can have that fixed, but it will cost you more $$$$. There was ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY by Michael and Solid Home Solutions to deliver us any kind of quality home for the over $500k we have paid. Also Michael, I am also asking that you IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ALL photos of our home from Solid Home Solutions web sites and social media, as we in no way want to endorse or promote you or Solid Home Solutions. This situation borders on tragedy for us as the $$$ we had saved from the sale of our last home is gone, and we are still facing another $100k to redo things that we had already paid SHS to do. And what is even more hurtful, is that you knew that we were working to set up an animal rescue, and the financial devastation that this has caused has slowed our work with the rescue. There are no words that can truly reflect the emotional, professional, and financial devastation we have experience in working with Solid Home Solutions on this project. read more

So far I have had my walls painted, popcorn removed and smooth finished, had vinyl plank flooring installed, and now the Solid Home team has just completed installing patio pavers for a perfect outdoor space. The whole project took a week, completely painless, and I'm so happy with the results. Worth every penny of the (reasonable, competitive) cost. What I love most is that the "no job is too small" mantra really applies with this company. I live in a 1300 sq ft condo. Finally, an awesome handyman, painter, helper, honey-doer that I can TRUST. Owner, Michael, quoted me fair prices and stuck to his word. They showed up on time, left everything clean in between days, and did great work. I first hired them for painting all the baseboards and trim in my home. Then he did ceiling repairs and more painting, refreshed and stained a solid exterior door, pressure washed our massive patio and drive, cleaned gutters, refinished some furniture, handled some plantings and did a bunch of other small jobs.
