I can't even tell you how much I still love this place. One-man-show Mike is amazing. Not only is he a nice guy, but he's realistic about what can and should be fixed and at what cost. I was searching for a long time to find someone I was able to trust with my Gucci belt. I needed a big chunk cut off by the buckle and wanted to add extra belt holes. I called to ask if they offer handbag repair services (they do!) and the gentleman who answered spoke with me for several minutes to get a clear understanding of what needs to be fixed. After answering all of his questions he went through several repair options with me over the phone and ultimately suggested that I first contact the manufacturer (as it is a brand name handbag) before bringing it in to his store. Recently, on an airplane flight, the piece of trash sitting next to me drank 15 beers, threw up on my boots and passed out. So my boots had vomit on them. Two months later, I came to Sole Provider, having lazily let the vomit dry and set in on my boots. I needed the heels replaced on my Florsheim office/dress shoes. It was $30, up front, one week turn around. That's the typical deal. A week later I came back and my shoes had nice new Italian made heels on them. My shoes were cleaned and shined and looked practically brand new. The workmanship is excellent. The heels are solid, they are glued on very well, and they are aligned perfectly. I've had to deal with very grumpy cobblers before who only take cash. Thanks mike for fixing my Luis Vuitton belt. Mike is a easy going guy eager to solve any issue a customer may have with their leather goods. When I first walked in I was greeted and he had a super comfy vintage waiting couch to relax on until he finished up with the woman.the lady in front of me came in to alter her heels/wedges(too loose in the back area suggested to take .5in off each strap) never even knew that could be done,good info to let the misses know. Once it was my turn I handed him my 10year old designer belt that I didn't want to part with due to it still having lots of life left. Within a blink of an eye "boom"click"pop" lol he put three holes in that looked factory as if it was made that way (precision work) .as for his pricing it was fair enough for me to give him a tip. I love this place! I got a beautiful pair of leather boots that were a bit (very) tight and difficult to get on. I took them to Sole Provider and Mike stretched them for me in all the right places and they are now perfect. I was worried I would never be able to wear them. He was up front about possible leather creasing during the process, as well as the limits of the shoe. He is affordable, knowledgeable, and provides honest opinions. I have had a couple of great experiences with this business! I had a leather fanny pack that needed a couple of inches taken off the belt. They did the job for me within minutes and charged me next to nothing for it. I took a pair of Birkenstocks to them to replace the inner footbed and the outside sole. Years ago I found Sole Provider while shopping at the Bel Air and was impressed with the service and care given to a pair of my Born boots. I dropped off my well-worn boots for a heel repair. When I picked up the boots, Mike had not only repaired the heels beautifully, but he shined and polished them so well that they practically looked new! Since I don't get to the Carmichael area much these days, I tried a couple other shoe repair places that are closer to my house for heel repairs on some other pairs of shoes but wasn't impressed at all. They didn't shine, polish, or buff them and one place didn't even address the hole in the sole that I requested be fixed. When I recently bought a new pair of Born suede knee high lace-up boots, I wanted to get them correctly weather treated and protected before they were too worn in. I took them to Sole Provider and asked Mike his recommendations. There were already some spots on the boots but Mike said he would brush and use a blower on them prior to adding the water-protectant. I also dropped off another pair of black leather Born boots for a heel repair and shine. I paid upfront , and was told they'd be ready in a week. Picked them up and Mike had done a fabulous job on both pairs! He wasn't able to get some of the little spots off the suede pair (but they are barely noticeable so I'm fine with that) however they look really awesome and are well protected! The other pair was shined to perfection and the new heels are great, too. Mike continues to do an exceptionally wonderful job and is obviously very dedicated to his craft. I will happily drive the extra distance to Sole Provider because not only is the work good, but the prices are also very reasonable. read more

I love the heels I brought to him but they are so fragile I have re-bought them 3 times. I finally decided to try a repair shop and I'm glad I chose this one, He was able to fix it in a matter of days and did a really clean repair that not only fixed the break but added extra support and stitching so it wouldn't break again. Very nice guy, did a great job repairing one of my Harley boots. Unfortunately Harley uses low quality zippers on their boots, so mine failed. He replaced it with a much better quality/heavy duty zipper, and it looks like that was what came on the boot, great job with the repair. 4 starts only because my boot was done earlier than quoted, but I never received a call stating they were ready. 1st off let me say that I do highly recommend Sole Provider.. I am a disabled American and I wear special shoes. 1 of my $600.00 orthopedic casual tennis -type shoes (left shoe only) was recently chewed up at the eye-lets by my young ADA registered service dog rendering it unusable. I took the shoe to Sole Provider for repair & the proprietor told me that he'd try his best to repair it and make it look as good as possible; and he did a great job! I had to take back the shoe laces he replaced because the ones that were used were too short short. He happily gave me a new pack of shoes laces that worked out perfectly. The only reason that I gave 4 Stars and not 5 was merely due to the fact that I thought $40.00 to repair the shoe was a bit too expensive, & I feel $20.00 - $25.00 would have be more in line with the repair. Since I wear dress shoes often, I have a number of pairs and put some good use on them. So knowing that a number of pairs are in various states of need, I researched and found Sole Provider through yelp. I took a pair in with very heavy damage and Mike very kindly and honestly explained some issues with the finish of the shoes and what could and couldn't be done and likely outcomes to expect. Trusting his opinion now, I returned with a pair of nice wingtips and for a very affordable rate I prepaid for their servicing. I was told to expect them by a specified date (which was fairly soon), and they were ready on time when I picked them up. The work was superb, I couldn't find any flaws or problems. And considering some of the scratches and scuffs I had put in them, some magic had to be involved as well since they almost look new again haha. Excellent service, prices, and work. I wouldn't trust my Louboutins and Choos with anyone else. He's saved some of my favorite shoes for posterity (and whatever I throw at them in the meantime). I hope Mike isn't planning on retiring any time soon because that would be very upsetting. Over the years, I have seasonally brought in a dozen pairs or so for the ole toes and tips repair (reinforcing the sole under the pointy toe, replacing the heel tips, and polishing). I find that Mike's heel tips hold up much longer than many of the original designer shoe tips. The cost of this service is really reasonable and worth every penny. In addition to these regular repairs, Mike has (on more than one occasion) breathed life back into a pair I thought was dead. Case in point: Like an idiot, I wore strappy metallic 5 inch Louboutin stilettos in Old Sac. No I wasn't dumb enough to plan to do that, just dumb enough to listen to my friends (who clearly do not have my shoes' best interests at heart). I was at an event at the Embassy (where shoes can frolic in a safe environment) and in a less than sober state, and I was talked into walking over to the Delta King. So I foolishly made this trek, surviving the cobblestone streets (barely) only to be defeated by the wooden planks one has to walk to reach the Delta King. In any case, I stepped in the cracks (twice) and scraped the delicate metallic pink suede on both of my heels ALL THE WAY up. Totally exposed skeleton heels. Mike saved the day. He stretched the leather down the heel, re-glued it, touched up the color (i can't believe he even had the right color) and used a clear heel tape that you cannot see to protect it at the bottom. And he did it all for a really reasonable price. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I think it was around $30 for all that work. It was well, well worth it. Although I've kept my precious heels far from Old Sac (lesson learned), I've ruined shoes and handbags in other various adventures and had Mike fix them. He fixed a tear for me in the leather around the interior snap on a one of a kind Bracher Emden bag. I was nervous about going to anyone but the designer for repairs since it's a collectable, but the designer is overseas and I had tried shipping it to them and had the problem with it being too valuable on the insurance to pass through customs without duty, and I didn't want to ship it uninsured. So I went to Mike. I should have gone to him to begin with. He did a masterful job with my baby, removing the torn leather flap, finding the perfect shade and style of leather, and sewing it back together. I inspected it as carefully as a mom would her newborn, and it was immaculate. It's actually better now because the snap he put in is less apt to tear the leather again. I could tell you more stories about Mike's masterful cobblery (gotta respect a man who appreciates a beautiful shoe), but those are the highlights. And you get the idea, he's a patron saint of leather goods. You can trust him with any repair job you can throw at him. Even though I live in midtown, it's worth the little drive to Carmichael. read more

I have had a great deal of shoe work done here and the quality is excellent every single time. I have had a lot of shoe work done over the years, by many different businesses, and this one is among the very best. Are his services low cost? No. America, get over your obsession with lowest cost=highest quality. It is a marketing ploy that you've foolishly bought into and that has no basis whatsoever in reality. There is not a thing to complain about this business. I am picky about where I have shoe work done because I wear expensive shoes and I don't want them damaged and I do want them treated properly.
