Aye Carumba. This place is expensive. $33 for a chicken dinner? This is not Michelin 5 star dining. The food is average. Not terrible, but not worth the high prices. Service is fine. Not what you'd expect for the money, but fine for what you expect for the place. Decor is well-large room with tables and TVs. Nothing wrong with that, but $33 for chicken dinner? The beef dip is only OK. It is a bit small, and bread a bit dry and the Au jus watery and overly salted, but hey, I've had worse - not for $18. But I've had worse at $12. It was hard to get over the shock of seeing the menu prices. These prices would be fine at a Fairmont Hotel, with the accompanying food quality, atmosphere, and service. At a Super 8 Hotel, they seem way out of line. read more

Great place! We arrived around 4:00 as we heard the place gets busy. Worked out great because we were there for happy hour and happy hour included appetizers. Every night they have a special. Everyone order the Thursday special, which was a 5oz steak w/mushrooms, salad and fries. No one complained. Okay, so my husband said, "it was so good he could have eaten more." I ordered the Coconut Curry (something like that) with prawns. Not spicy at all (which can be a concern for me when curry is involved)and so fresh. I had leftovers which my husband ate about an hour later. He agreed, it was very good. I also had an ice cold bud light. Wait staff is great. We will be back. I really like this restaurant. Our meals have always been just what we ordered and we have never had a bad experience here. The only critique I have is that I find the restaurant a bit dark for lunch time but great for dinner. The menu is great, I would like more healthy options but I always find something yummy to order. Great service and very reasonable prices. I love the patio in the summer. read more

This is a nice atmosphere. The lighting gives a relaxed feeling, While the music is uplifting. The salad portions are quite large even for a half. They are made with care and the ingredients are fresh. For an appetizer the nachos are second to none and I recommend the bison burger for a reasonably priced meal. The steak is great here too. The ribs are saucey (probably lots of sugar) Check the menu if your conscious of consumption and ingredients. the meat is prepared excellently- I have not had a bad dish here. One if the better restaurants in town. I haven't had a bad meal or bad service yet though they can get heavy on the red onion. Lately after the remodel they seem to be louder than usual which in my opinion is a major minus. Either way the food is always good, drinks replaced quickly and service good. Price wise it's about average for the town. read more

Some of the seasonal menu items are great, many misses, but some of their signature drinks are good. Service is hit or miss, and not sure on the management at this place. It is part of the Best Western Hotel so there is a ton of parking. Previous chef kept ingredients au courant, and the new chef is definitely wanting to do the same. First and LAST time ever going here. Went out for a nice dinner with my husband, food was less than mediocre but that wasn't the concern. My husband took had a few bites of food and chomped onto something sharp. It was a fairly big piece of stainless steel scour pad (2.5 inches long), which could have resulted in him cutting his mouth or possibly his insides. A hair is one thing, but a hard sharp piece of steel???? The waitress took the food away and brought out a new meal for him 20 mins later. At the end of the dinner we got our bill and they were still going to charge us for his dish so my husband asked about it. The waitress said "well we gave you a new one so yeah", I spoke up and said that's not acceptable...she said she'd talk to the manager. She came back and said the manager will allow 30% off (are you kidding?). If he hurt himself badly they would have been giving A LOT more than 30% off. It's unfortunate that the manager was also too lazy to get off their butt and come out to talk to us, and IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE! Out of all the years of dining and trying out restaurants, this experience was by far the worst. read more

Had dinner here on 8-11-2013 and we can honestly say it was the best dinner that we have had in Canada. The waitstaff was phenomenal and the calamari appetizer was extremely tasty and not greasy at all which is hard it seems for some kitchens. Their prime rib was melt in your mouth yummy and my hubby raved about his surf and turf with a grilled mushroom medley. Would definitely recommend you try them! read more

My family and I had a great meal here while on vacation. The decor was surprisingly sophisticated. I ordered the seafood linguine and liked it a lot. They definitely didn't skimp on the seafood in my pasta. Our waitress was very nice and checked in on us frequently. The food took a little bit of time to come out, but nothing that any of us thought was excessive or unacceptable. Nevertheless, our waitress apologized for the food getting to us so slowly and even gave us complimentary dessert at the end because of the wait. She really made the experience an amazing one and I regret not catching her name. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a delicious meal and great service. read more

Sola's is a nice looking spot inside even if its decor is a bit "cookie cutter". The server was nice albeit seemingly eager to get drinks started seconds after I'd picked up the menu. It was Wednesday so wings were half price ($7), so I went with an order of hot wings and a half Greek salad. I added ranch dipping sauce which I later found out was 95c! I think the most I've ever been charged was 50c. Yes in the grand scheme it's change under the cushions ... But really, almost a buck for a little ramekin of sauce?? Despite this the wings were large and delicious. The Greek salad was a little odd. Not to say it was bad. It just wasn't what I was expecting. It was basically your standard Greek salad combined with a large bed of greens. Definitely the leafiest Greek salad I've seen. But it was good and a huge size for a half. "Best in town" says the menu. Other things on the menu seemed a bit pricey but maybe you get generous portions so it might be worth the price, I can't say. My experience was pretty good overall with the half price wings and large portioned half salad. Worth a visit if you're in DC. read more

Just had the worst dining & service experience out of any restaurant we've been to in Western Canada! After attending a family event at Encana, we beat the rush over to 'Sola'; the restaurant our parents 'highly recommended'. We had our table of 8 promptly sat (us, our 4 kids & the grandparents). Our drink orders were taken, then the 'after event' masses started lining up. We joked how lucky we were to get in first, thinking our entire order had been put in with the server before the several other tables sat. Our order was straightforward: 4x the Sunday evening prime rib special, + 4 kids meals. We were looking forward to a nice meal before our 2 hour drive home. So Wrong! Everything after that was like being stuck in the Bermuda Triangle! Our server was busy, but she completely ignored that we existed for the rest of the night. We finished our drinks & sat with dry glasses for 20 minutes, before the very young bus girl we flagged down, found someone to bring us another round. It soon became apparent that we no longer knew if our 'server' was actually serving us, as by this point she would no longer make eye contact & was busy buzzing around the several other tables that had sat after us. (& while several people were working, they too made us feel invisible) 40 min after we sat, the 'share plate' appetizer came out. It tasted like freezer burnt, leftover bits from the deep fryer (whose oil hadn't been changed in the past month) soaked in dish water & slapped with a few splashes of mystery sauce. Not impressed but still looking forward to our actual meals. Our kids were starving by this point! Then the food parade started. Every table that had been sat after us, whether it was an 8 top, high top, booth or by bar was served their food. We counted at least 50 + other individual plates coming out of the kitchen. Literally the entire restaurant had been filled & was served & settling up before our mains came out. Our original server fliting between the tables directly behind us, with no explanation or courtesy to speak to us. We assumed she had messed up or forgot the order, so she was just avoiding us. Another 20 min...still no food. Other tables started getting their bills & some were leaving. Our kids were spinning, starving & my parents were getting worried. I finally had to walk around to find our original server, to ask her what was going on, why it was taking so long. She replied that it was because we had ordered the 'appy'. (Actually, why am I walking around looking for service)? Another 20-30 minutes passes & our food starts coming out. It's lukewarm, the gravy has skin, the Yorkshire was scorched black & soggy; ingredients were missing from the plates. We had to flag someone down 'again'. Then another 10-15 minutes after the adult meals, our kids curry bowls come out. Again luke warm, missing the grilled chicken & rice ... so basically a bowl of shredded veg. No one came back to check on anything. The food quality was as bad as the service. We again had to get up & hunt someone down to ask why so many things were wrong. We asked to speak to the manager. Instead one of the 'helpers' came around to say the manager would take 10% off the bill and pay for the wine. By this point the restaurant was almost empty. The food was not palatable, so we we packed most of it up for our dog. Frustrated I got up again to find someone in the back so we could actually speak to the elusive 'manager' & explain our horrible experience. It wasn't about the bill. She finally came over & offered a few lame excuses & a half ass insincere apology. Our server also made an excuses apology & explained she couldn't leave the other table's waiting. We reminded her that was exactly what she did to us: completely ignored us & left us waiting. Bottom line; their problems with quality control, service etc are not the fault of the customer. Avoiding dealing with the situation made it even worse. We had not been to a restaurant in Dawson Creek in over 11 years, and will never go back to or recommend anyone to go to Solas. The experience put a big stain in an otherwise memorable evening. read more

The food was reasonable, but I found the portions to be on the small side. This did not sit well with me as the prices were quite high. Our server was fairly attentive and friendly, so I would say that overall Sola's is ok. read more
