    Just some of our spread

Sure wasn't expecting food this good in this little town. We ordered to go and brought it back to the hotel. I think we had one of everything !! Enough food for leftovers the next day. The food was still hot when we got it back and had all the amenities needed for a great meal. Thank you for food that was obviously prepared with love and care!!

This was a great find. A fun place with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, friendly and hard-working staff (though clearly a bit overworked as it was season transition and they were a bit short-handed), and great food. I sat at the bar and got fish and chips and a Guinness (always a great combination). The fish was well cooked, and the batter (though thicker than I like) was very crispy. Cole Slaw was good, and the chips were very nicely seasoned (Plus, they gave me gravy to dip them in, which was heavenly - so much better than ketchup!) Nice grilled lemon and they provided malt vinegar. I came back my second night in town and got the Brussels Sprouts. So good - you can't go wrong with well-cooked sprouts, pork, cheese, and balsamic, and they didn't. Practically a meal by itself!

Good cocktails and beer, food was great and the service was awesome! We had fish and chips, poutine, burger and Brussels sprouts! Would recommend all of it!

The menu said it was to include "artisan lettuce, shaved fennel, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized pecans and dried cranberries" however it only came with spring mix lettuce and dried cranberries. For a $9 salad, this was really disappointing. I also had the seafood chowder which was really tasty. It came with plenty of seafood including haddock, scallops shrimp and a side of toasted garlic bread. Service was decent and there was a TV in the restaurant area with the game on which was a bonus.

Liquor flowed, deals were sealed and anyone unfortunate enough to be wearing a tie had it clipped off and displayed on the trophy wall. The restaurant changed hands until it was renovated and rebranded as part of the Fogg N Suds franchise, renowned for its impressive line up of international beers, fishbowls of cocktails and awe inspiring draft beer towers. The crowds were usually young, loud and very enthusiastic. Under new ownership and a management change Roustabouts opened. Emphasis was placed more on family dining and quality food. I've had more than a few memorable meals here with friends. So I was quite surprised at the mediocre quality of my last few visits. I ordered my old standby favorite, pulled pork. Not at all the tender, saucy, melt in your mouth, drip down your chin experience I remember. The pork was chewy and dry. As were the little cup of mushrooms offered as a $2 side, advertised as sautéed but had obviously not been introduced to a lick of butter. The gravy was another disappointment. I can't eat naked fries, if you're going to charge extra for gravy make it from beef drippings and flour. However the service was friendly and the Keith's amber ale was frosty and delicious!

I opted for the latter bc it was too windy. I got a flight of beers and the bartender was professional and friendly. She said she's a teacher and that she has to bartend to make ends meet. Naw I'm kidding about the last part of that sentence. But she's a teacher. The beers were pretty solid as I recall. At one point, she had to go change a keg, and so when an outside customer came in, I felt compelled to say "she went in the back to change a keg." We can't leave our customers in the dark now can we? When I was ready to leave, two local yahoos came in and started sampling all the beers. It was some real insight to me as to what makes a real Canadian. I'd have preferred if bartender/schoolmarm had asked me if I wanted to close out, but i got to witness two good ole boys in action for a solid 5-10 minutes as they sampled beer and finally ordered (and received) two growlers of FSJ's finest.

The pub hasn't aged a lot since it's opening. In fact the usual suspects can be found any given weekend, filling the same seats they've occupied since the late eighties. Some things have changed, the awesome HO scale train that raced by on tracks overhead is gone. Some things have stayed the same, the wait staff is still friendly and funny and not afraid to stop and chat with the patrons. My server, a local, born and raised here, relished the fact most of her clientele went to school with her parents and some of her former school mates who frequent the pub haven't aged that well. She recommended a sleeve of Belgian moon draft with brunch. A smooth beer, heavy on citrus, which I probably would avoid except at breakfast where it makes perfect sense. I tried the avocado toast. A soft poached egg on brioche with tomato and mashed avocado. It really lacked any kind of flavor or texture, as did the fruit plate that accompanied it. However food and drink is reasonably priced here and I do enjoy the free conversation.
