As in my previous experiences, the knowledge, work approach and results were exceptional George worked with me to get the right solution for my home. We recently had a solar system installed in Monterey - this included solar panels and a Generac battery backup system. Personally I wasn't a big fan of the idea of having solar panels just to reduce one's electric bill: our electric bill is modest, and in my opinion it makes sense for the utility to deliver "green" energy at scale. But our main motivation for the solar was to have battery backup when there is a storm or other power outage, the solar panels charge the battery bank, and if there is a power outage the system automatically switches to use the batteries. The system is also configured to have the solar panels directly power the house when the batteries are charged. We started shopping for a solar system last May (2023), we got competitive bids from 3 different companies and preferred SolarTecture's proposal. George Porter and his office team have been great to deal with. George responds to calls promptly and patiently answers all questions. The installation team was friendly and professional and the work was done well. The system is performing as expected, our 12 solar panels have been generating about 32kWh of electricity a day for the past couple of weeks, and that exceeds our typical usage (excess electricity is actually fed back to PG&E). The only disappointment in the process was that we waited a bit longer than expected for the installation work to start: we signed the contract mid-July 2023 and installation didn't start until mid-March 2024, and completing the installation and getting final approval to activate the system took until mid-April due to weather delays. George and his team this summer installed solar panels on our home, with two Generac PowerCell batteries. They rewired the system, which had its challenged due to two electrical boxes, etc., and it's been working beautifully. This was not a super simple job, and they got it all done. They're also professional and enjoyable to work with, and the office very responsive. George also worked with the man installing our heat pump so that it was integrated with the newly-rewired electrical system. Note: During longer days, we use the battery in "Self Supply", meaning that as soon as the solar panels stop generating power in the evening, it switches to the battery until it's drained to 30% - and then it goes to the grid. Our PG&E bills plummeted. However, in the winter we change the setting to preserve more battery power in case of an outage. You'll need a short tutorial on this, but it's not complicated at all. And I call Generac Customer support, whose number is on the Generac app, and they quickly handle it for me. Generac customer support is fantastic. (Much, much easier than getting through to Tesla support for their solar battery, which we had in our previous home.) read more

It took longer to complete than I would have liked (a lot of people applied to get work done under the old PG&E rate structure), which was expected, but it did take a long time. I wanted to get my solar panels in before the end of 2015, and this company delivered as they promised. I contacted several companies, some in this area, others out of town, and this company was the most responsive. Before making an estimate they sent an engineer over to get on my roof and measure the sunlight during the optimum time for measuring the light. It was set up and very thoroughly--the engineer walked around for over an hour taking light measurements from several spots on the roof. I had others come to the property, or give me an estimate based on the Google map of my home, and nobody spent the time or effort to configure the best layout to get the most of the panels. As an example, another company came as the sun was almost set, and spent under 15 minutes taking light measurements. They sell high quality American or European manufactured panels, and are staffed locally. Because they are connected to REpower, they do get input from well-trained engineers as to the final configuration. When I told them that I preferred micro-inverters, they rewrote the estimate so that I could get the configuration that I wanted. The permit process was handled quickly by the firm, without any input from me at all other than signing the contract to get the work going. The panels were installed in the time frame promised without any delays other than a short rain delay. When the City's engineer came to sign off on the electrical work done, he commented on what a good job the electricians did. No trash was ever left behind. We obtained financing from an inexpensive solar loan from a community bank in nearby Santa Cruz. We also qualified for the state sponsored financing but the expenses related to that were high, and the interest rate not so great. We had a monitor installed in our home that we can view with an Ipad app so we can check ourselves that all panels are functioning properly. Our power bill so far has been reduced significantly. I am glad I made the decision to work with this local company. read more

We have engaged SolarTecture for two different projects in the past year. Our first project involved a complete redo of our sun room dining room. The old one was leaking and needed repairs or rebuild. Mark's crew tore out the old windows and structure, then reinforced the substructure (not a small task with the rot caused by the leaks), before constructing a Four Seasons brand sun room on the same footprint. We were fortunate that the existing footprint fit well with the possible sizes Four Seasons could accommodate. Carlos was the lead carpenter and his skills and ability to make adaptations to make things fit and work were key to a very successful end product. Carlos and his crew worked with us to allow us to get much of the painting of the beams and trim done prior to putting it all together, which made the detail work after completion quite easy. Making "standard size" fit into existing construction is not always easy, or even possible, but having a craftsman like Carlos, who is also a tremendous problem solver, made it seem quite simple. After our successful sun room makeover, we engaged SolarTecture to replace our old redwood deck. Again, substructure needed significant repair, and Carlos and his team opted to replace anything questionable before laying deck boards. Carlos made sure that everything was in good shape before starting with adding the TimberTech deck materials, and again, his problem solving ability and desire to do everything perfectly resulted in a deck that surpassed our expectations. I recommend SolarTecture highly, especially if Carlos will be involved on the job. The man is a true craftsman (not so many around anymore), honest, and concerned about doing any project correctly. I don't know why everyone who has a pool, but hates the electricity or heating bills, doesn't have a solar pool pump/heating system. I already built a solar heating system several years ago, but was bleeding money with a traditional electric pump system pushing the water through. I couldn't run the pump during the hottest parts of the day because that was also the highest PG and E rates. It was painfully ironic that I couldn't use the sun when it was the most helpful in keeping the pool warm. Then I discovered a solar pool pump online that ran separate from my home solar electric system. George Porter oversaw the installation and now our pool pump is running almost all day and is keeping our pool very warm. Why didn't I do this earlier? I'll probably recoup the expense of installing the solar pump within 3 years of electricity savings.
