I gave 2 stars generously because nothing specifically horrible happened during my visit. But I will say overall it was the most underwhelming experience I've ever had getting a pedi. From the moment I stepped in and after I waited for my toes to dry about 10 minutes I was all done in less than 45 minutes and the cost was $50 with tip. The lack of certain sanitation methods was concerning, I was kinda of put off by the tech digging back into the sugar jar with her hands after massaging my feet (I have a cross contamination phob) and I'm sure that's a regular practice so not sure how many people's dead feet skin are in there! The massage was lacking "massage", the callous remover was not that/no pumice stone was even used, and the top coat on the polish wasn't applied fully to my nails so they looked uneven in the sunlight, I've already removed the polish and repolished them last night-only hours after my service. Honestly it doesn't even feel like I got a pedi yesterday sadly. read more

Until today, I have had fairly good experiences here. I used to bring my grandmother here and we usually had good service. Today wiped all that away. I am shocked, disappointed, embarrassed, and angry. Today, I brought my mother-in-law in, after having sang praises about this place. I was also hoping to make it my daughter's first experience getting her nails painted. It all changed as soon as we walked through the door. They lost our appointment, so immediately it felt like we were an inconvenience. They were very short with my family and mother-in-law (English is her second language) and simply said they couldn't understand her and she needed to sit down, and they were not nice when she asked if they had some slightly different color options. The owner's curt attitude scared her and she didn't even feel comfortable with him touching her after that point. I am beside myself and can't believe what a terrible experience we had today. Pink oil slick! I'm in love!!! They also offer an extra 20 min foot massage for $20, I literally get my feet done for the massage so this was so question the best addition to my day. The lady who did my pedicure was so cool and did a great pedicure. The guy who did my manicure was absolutely intolerable. I've never been so annoyed and stressed GETTING A MANICURE!! Besides basic social skills, he lacked in talent and technique. I've been getting my nails done every week for the last 15 years. It's my self care time where I like to relax and unwind. My DIL and I came here for pedi & mani. The husband was who did all of our services. I chose gel nails and regular polish for toes. DIL chose gel for both. My finger nails turned out really thin, never seen this thin before. My DIL finger nails were SUPER thick. Both of our nails turned out a mess. My nails chipped after ONE day, my DIL couldn't stand the way hers turned out. We aren't the type to complain and this was our first MIL/DIL day together. Didn't want to embarrassed eachother. Our toes turned out good enough...it's feet, not many ppl look at them. Other than the infection I got in my big toe. We have a wedding today. DIL went and had her fingernails redone at another salon. I was going to go somewhere too, but I didn't have enough time between work and a 5yo. I did call to make them aware and they wanted me to come in RIGHT then. Well I have a 5yo, not much time to myself! So not only am I out $150 (for everything), these aren't going to last much longer! First off I want to say that I have been going to this location for about 4 years now and would not go anywhere else. They always have some interesting t.v. programs on a big flat screen that all the stations face, a nice aroma fills the place, and water and coffee are offered. There is also a couple sofas where you can wait if you haven't made an appointment and it is busy. Call ahead to make sure there is no wait time. :) I have not only been getting my nails done at this place for years but I also do all of my waxing here as well. They are always very welcoming and both the ladies who have waxed me have had a calming effect to them, which is nice since wax makes me nervous sometimes. I even got my other half to come in and get waxed too, he is hooked lol! During the time I got solar nails, the owner and the gentleman who does solar too were both very friendly and helped me break out of my normal bubble to try a lot of new colors and styles which I can't thank them enough for. Since I am in college I have stopped Solar nails, but I still get regular schellack done with them and we are always trying something new and fun. :D (see my collection of nail photos) I will say the business has gone through an awesome growth in these past years. I've used this salon 3-4 times in the last few years. My first experience required me to return the following day due to the glitter polish coming off significantly overnight. The rest of my bad experiences were specifically a result of poor customer service and awful attitudes from the owners themselves. The owners are a husband and wife couple. The gentlemen is rude, gossiped about other customers after they'd left, and really just has kind of a nasty attitude. I've experienced this every single time I've been in. My last visit had me so upset, I addressed it with the owner and his wife before I left and let them know I wouldn't be returning. A woman came in as both the owners were attending to myself and another customer. This woman was a large lady and it was evident she struggled a bit with mobility. The female owner asked how they could help her and the walk in customer said she needed a nail trim. The owner's reply was that they were busy and she couldn't to it. It's not she said, it was HOW she said it. It was with a tone of disgust almost. There was no kindness in her tone or a smile on her face, no offer for the woman to wait to get seen shortly or an offer of returning later that day or even the following day. Not even an explication of that day having so many bookings they couldn't accommodate her. It seemed very evident they had no interest in helping this walk in customer. The customer was polite but replied by questioning that the sign in the door says "walk ins welcome". I can't recall the exact reply from the female owner but she was basically sent away. The husband was right there and sat silently while he watched this interaction and worked on my feet. After she left, the male owner who was working on my pedicure made a remark about how people just think they can walk in and be seen right away and scoffed at the audacity of a walk in customer hoping to be helped. He and his wife made another couple of remarks about it and the overall interaction was just so negative and ugly. It really made me upset to see a business in my community with a complete lack of care or compassion. I felt awful for the woman as I wondered if it was physically difficult for her to be able to trim her own nails and really needed some help doing that. A complete lack of human decency and customer service and poor business practices. Upon paying for my services (I also wanted to wait until the other gentlemen customer was done and gone before addressing this issue) I spoke to the man. (His wife had left to go eat lunch ir run an errand so it was just him in the salon. I politely but firmly explained how awful I thought the entire interaction was. He defended his wife's actions by saying something along the lines of " I don't know if you noticed but my wife is from a different country and doesn't speak. Good English" I let him know that before he began working on my pedicure and was gone at the store she and I had a full conversation about how they met and got married etc. I expressed to him that though she did have an accent I had no trouble understanding her at all and she was very well spoken. I also brought up that he was sitting right there and watched the entire interaction and didn't offer any other options for the woman or support or kindness. at that point I let him know that I would never be returning. He scoffed and said he didn't care and didn't need my business. read more

I had the male that worked there start my pedicure. He didnt even clean out the dirt in my toe nails! When I asked him to please clean up the dirty nails, he said rudely to me "well, I gave them a once over" and then did nothing. He gave the WORST pedicure I've ever had in 35 yrs. It was done fast and half ass... I swear I thought I was being punked it was soooo bad. I had a woman who worked there come over and clean up my toes and fix the crappy paint job too. He then kept looking at his wife and she was talking in her native language and looking in my direction as the other girl cleaned up my nails. I went to get my nails done yesterday with my best friend and up until we started everything was ok. When we sat down my friend got a sweet Asian woman who talked to us I sat next to her waiting for the Caucasian male to get off his computer and start. He was a little rude both me and my friend noticed but whatever. We sat in silence unless I talked to my friend or the woman doing her nails. Upon getting home I realized about 4 of my nails were not smooth but bubbled and indented. I am a hair stylist I watched friends go through the nail tech course in beauty school. so in conclusion he didn't take his time to make sure my nails were even and smooth. I wouldn't go back if it was the last place in the world to get a mani pedi! My neighbor had warned me that it was unhygienic but I thought I would try any ways. When I first walked in and asked about why they weren't using regular nail polish Greg bit my head off!! I was so shocked by his rudeness I turned to leave but his wife intervened and was apologetic and polite. She was great but he marched around the salon and glared at me the whole time. It was nauseating to hear him use his " sweet" voice to customers on the phone and then make a nasty comment to his wife. When he stepped out I asked if he was just stressed with this Covid stuff , she said no he has a problem with women!! And he works in a salon!! I gave her a good tip, but I will never go back and I've called several friends to tell them about my experience so they can pass on the word! read more

I don't get my nails done often but when I do I usually just get gel nails. I had a nail chip the day after getting them done which I thought was unusual for gel nails, so I went back in later the next day and they patched up the chip with no extra charge. :) read more

Bad quality. Super sloppy, can't shape or make an even length. When I first talked to the wife and told her my issues with the quality of my nails all I got in response was a rude look and a shrug, I asked if this was normal quality produced by them and that is when the husband (the one who did my nails) stood up and asked me what my issue was. When I pointed out the mistakes he told me he doesn't understand because he never messes up and that they aren't that bad. When he first started on my new set I told him exactly how I liked them, the shape I wanted, the length I liked. I got nothing I asked for in that aspect. I even told the guy I was kind of picky and his exact words were "oh I'm not worried about that," he was very full of himself when he had no reason or right to be. One of my nails was at least half a centimeter linger then the same nail on my other hand, all he did was file it down (the nail was already painted and top coated) so. Ow it just looks even worse. Besides the bad file job I got no other offer to fix or even make right. I did mention to him I thought he did a good job on the design. In my opinion he should stick to that and only that when it come to nails. I felt that both owners could care less about how I felt about the quality of my nails. I absolutely do not recommend anyone to go to this business. $40 dollars horribly spent. read more

So this morning I was all set for a lovely zen afternoon consisting of a massage at my therapists house out in Woodland, WA., followed by a nice little pedicure. I of course turn to yelp.com to see if there IS a place out there, as this is a very small town, and was actually surprised to see a there were a few. I chose "AMERICA NAILS" because it was the "highest rated" and had a really good review. So I called and made an appt for myself and a friend that lives in La Center. I got done with my massage right on time and plugged "AMERICA NAILS" into the trusty GPS and off I go. I pass a "Solar Nail Salon" but the GPS says keep on going and I ended up in a parking lot, so I back tracked to Solar and called from outside to see if AMERICA and Solar are one and the same. Turns out they are and I wait outside for my friend. I end up going in to get started and got a very pleasant asian man who was not only welcoming but polite. Things are looking good until I ask him about the name change and pull up the review I saw under AMERICA NAILS and he seemed puzzled and before I could finish explaining what Yelp was and reading him the very positive review we are interrupted by a very abrasive white male who wanted to know what we were talking about. So I reiterated what I had said to the other gentleman and he said "We are SOLAR nail salon, NOT American! Is the number the same?" To which I replied "yes". "Is the address the same?" Again my reply was yes. Then we don't have to worry about it do we?" Well, here sir, is the answer to YOUR question. Number one, when a customer is trying to help you and compliment you at the same time, don't be an ass hat. Especially when she is a new customer who may bring back more business, and is talking with you about a popular review site where YOUR business happens to be listed. Under the wrong name. (By the way, if you yelp "Solar Nail Salon", NOTHING comes up. Nada.) As luck would have it, this rude man is the one who is going to be doing my friend's pedi today. How did we get so lucky? We pretty much talked and tried to ignore him but he would intermittently bitch at the guy doing my feet for "unplugging something" he wasn't supposed to, and then ended up moving my friend to a mani station and finishing her toes there. So we both sat in silence, not wanting to yell across the room to each other and really we were just ready to be done and get the hell out of this place. NO one was overly friendly, as per the last review, nor did they treat us like "royalty". In fact when I mentioned "Kelsey" and her review where she spoke so highly of this place, they said they had never heard of her and dismissed it right away. I would have at least taken a look at her pic so I could THANK HER for her beaming review of my mediocre business. My recommendation is to take your money over to DT Nails by Safeway across the highway, or make the trek into the Couv and get your nails done in a clean, professional, lovely decorated salon like Venus Nails on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell, where you are actually treated with respect. read more

This place was terrible. The owner who did my nails was rude and very demanding. I was the last customer in the store and my acrylics were rushed. My white acrylics look TERRIBLE. The staff are really nice and I enjoy visiting with them when I go, and this has been my go to salon for a few years, because its close and enjoyable. The reason I'm only giving 2 stars is because, every single time I get a pedicure, it either smears before I can get home, chips with in a few hours or peels off within a couple of days. I've always thought it was just me being careless. I don't get regular pedi's, its a treat or special occasion thing so I don't really have a lot of experience with them to know differently. One day a friend and I went in on a rainy day for a 'pick me up' treat. 5 hours after I got home my dog stepped on my foot and the polish wiped off as though it had just been put on 30 seconds earlier. In commenting to my friend she said her's had just slid off like water, after several hours too. We called the salon and they said 'come back in and we'll fix it', which is great but why was it still so wet in the first place? Are they using inferior products, or adding something to stretch the materials? I was given a gift certificate to a different salon in Vancouver recently and expected the same sort of thing. 'Get a pedi, some how muck it up in a day or two but what the heck, it was a gift so enjoy is as long as I could'. 3 WEEKS, no smears, no chips! I wear sandals a lot and work in my garden a lot even go bare footed out side A LOT! No problem for 3 weeks. I went back to Solar Nails for a pedi, not because my 3 week old polish was needing to be replaced but because of the summer feet......sure enough, smeared before I got home, don't even know what it touched, and chip before bed time. I think I may be done with this salon. My polish was still soft to touch several hours after I got home. read more

The First time I went in I got Shellac and they bubbled before the guy was even done. He blamed it on New nail polish and left it at that, didn't even try to fix them. I decided to give them another try and went in again a few months later and I was not surprised sadly that when they were done I had smudges all over my toe nails and I had nail polish all over my fingers, when I pointed it out she basically shrugged and said you can wash it off. I'm new to the area and needed a new place to get my acrylics. The first time I went in, I was in love. The woman was so friendly, they brought both me and my boyfriend a bottle of water. She conversed with us the whole time. The autoclaves were nice to see and it seemed promising. Two weeks later I went in for my fill, the man sits on the couch and when I walked in, the woman was busy. They looked at eachother for a few seconds, and he finally mutters, "okay fine". He spent so much time filing my nails, to only find that you can see the demarcation line on my nails. You can see where he broke off old acrylic where it had lifted, and they are not even. For the amount of time he spent filing, I'd expected excellent nails. Not the case. He didn't talk to me except to ask what I wanted. The woman remembered exactly who I was and brought up a conversation which was nice. I'd love to be her client, but the man is not the person I want doing my nails. read more

I have been here a few times and have had a few issues before, but this is the last straw. I went there to get my toe nails painted only because I was in a hurry and couldn't afford to do a pedicure today. I have done this many times in between getting a regular pedicure and it has always been $7. Like I said, I have done this many times and it has always been $7, the last time being within the last couple months. Well this morning I went and got my toe nails painted, just painted, not filed, nothing more whatsoever, and I go to pay the $7 it has always been and they tell me it is $13. I'm shocked and say it is supposed to be $7 and they tell me that is only for finger nails. I know this isn't true because I never paint my fingers. Ever. Which I tell them & also let them know I have don't this many times and am not a new customer so I know what I pay. Then she changes it to say that "well toes are $7, but she painted white tips so it's $13". I say that the price must have changed because I was here a month or 2 ago and it was $7. She insists that I'm wrong, even though this is the only place in Woodland I have ever gone to because it is closest to where I live. Then she says well we charge more to paint white tips instead of the whole nail. This has NEVER been the case any other time I had my nails painted with no other services. I was annoyed and told her that I wish I had known that the price was changed because I wouldn't have paid $13 to have my nails painted when I was that broke. Then when I go to leave I see that the price list on the wall still says $7 for polish change. And there is no specification on toes, fingers, etc. The Asian woman I was talking to and paying was the owner (married to the white guy from the last commenter who complained). What makes me the most mad is that she raised the price without telling me, then tried to say that was always the price, even though they hadn't changed the price sheet. I should have been charged the $7. I would never pay someone $13 to spend 2 seconds painting me toe nails. I would have done it at home for free for that price and it just makes me mad that she seemed to be being deceitful about it and lying. This was the last time I will be disappointed there and I will never go back. I know there is another place in Woodland and I will try them next time or go to Longview or Vancouver. And I have gone there for pedicure services and waxing so it's too bad for them to be losing on services, but I feel they were being dishonest. America Nails is also called Solar Nails on the door. There are other ads listed with the same number and address because they changed the name on the door, but not online. Maybe to start over due to bad review?
