This is exactly the situation at Shipudei Berek, a modern Israeli restaurant run by a passionate chef who wanted to bring a piece of Tel Aviv to Warsaw! I just can't emphasize how great this restaurant is--from the trendy modern decor, the friendly service, the videos of life & food in Israel playing in the background, and yes, the delicious food, Shipudei Berek is just bomb! The thing I loved the most was the mezze spread--10 different dishes of freshly prepared appetizers that come with every skewer entree: cabbage, tzatziki, red sumac onions, spicy carrots, shredded carrots, beets, grated tomato, tahini, hummus with chili, and pickled cucumbers & chilies! Every mezze dish was so fresh and seasoned so perfectly--if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the dreamy, creamy hummus, which just goes perfectly with the pita bread that comes on the side! On top of the mezze, we also got an order of the octopus shipud, which were four pieces of octopus marinated and grilled on skewers! It was topped with a black sesame sauce with bits of pistachio. Additionally, there was a portion of what looked like/tasted like dragons beard but it added another layer of depth to the already superb dish. The ambiance is a mix of cozy, trendy and elegant which can be more casual or more formal depending on your occasion. I came in around 2pm so I must've missed the lunch rush since I heard this place gets some longer wait times. As for the staff, the waitress and bartender were both extremely attentive and friendly. They both would always check in to see if I was enjoying the food and if there was anything else I needed/wanted. Absolutely unacceptable customer service and treatment…read more I am Muslim and I do not eat pork for religious reasons. Before ordering, we had already asked whether another item could be changed from pork to beef and were told no. Later, we asked about a pizza option and the employee agreed. We misunderstood "cotto," believing it referred to cheese because there was another truffle and cheese option on the menu. As soon as the pizza arrived and we realized it contained pork, I immediately explained that I am Muslim and cannot eat pork. Instead of showing basic understanding or trying to resolve the issue, the only response was offering a takeaway box. I clearly said I did not want a takeaway box and asked for the pizza to be removed from the table because I did not want pork sitting in front of me. The employee then brought the box back and threw it onto our table in a disrespectful manner. We asked to speak with a manager expecting professionalism and assistance. Instead, the manager offered absolutely no solution and immediately dismissed the situation. We even asked them to check cameras or recordings if available because we felt we were not being listened to or believed. For around 20 minutes we repeatedly asked for the pizza to be removed from our table and were ignored. I was not asking for free food. I was not demanding special treatment. I was asking for basic respect and a reasonable level of customer service. As a 20-year-old customer, I was left so humiliated and distressed in public that I ended up crying. No customer should ever be treated this way. I am also attaching the receipt showing that we were still charged for the pizza. Deeply disappointing, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.
