It was fine. Nothing was bad but nothing was life changing. I ordered the double portion of chicken fajitas and I just wish there was more chicken involved. Paired with some guacamole, it was all fine though: accomplished my goal of getting fed lunch. My husband got a burrito and he finished his plate as well and said it was fine. The best Mexican food we've ever had and always love it when we get a chance to get food from here! Usually do takeout, sometimes dine-in but usually always a couple people there if not close to a full house. The chicken fajitas are out of this world! Be careful doing "large" carry out orders over the phone because it took over 10 minutes to try to communicate what we wanted (5 items) after talking to two people and when arrived to pick up had to be remade because of errors in the order. If you get double order of fajitas make sure to check because there have been several times where it was way less than that. But otherwise will always look forward to the chance to get food from here! read more

Excellent, delicious Mexican food in Carlinville! The street tacos were fantastic and took me back to the streets of San Diego. They're truly authentic with that delicious corn taste, perfectly fried carnitas, and fresh cilantro and onion. Loved every bite! If you share your food dilema - mine was that I like larger than average salads - they'll try to accomodate you. Delicious Salsa & chips. Each night there's a special, e.g. taco Tuesdays - $1 a taco, pulled chicken or ground beef with a non-greasy crispy shell. 4 tv flat screens, 1 on each wall, so you can keep up with the playoffs. This restaurant was suggested by a co-worker. I was reluctant at first because I'm not a fan of Mexican Food. I ordered the Lunch #1 which is Chili Relleno, Refried Beans, and a plate of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, etc. with a filled Taco. Lots of food, and the Iced Tea was under $10. First time here and is pretty good, fast friendly service too. We had lunch the Sol de Mexico burrito in chx and beef, equally good. portions seem a lil small for the price but filling plus you get rice beans sour cream. The refried beans were awesome tho. read more

I really want to give it four stars, but the problem is consistency. I ordered fish tacos, which were supposed to come with cheese and pico. They did not. I finally asked for the cheese, which they happily brought. My son ordered fajitas. While he generally loves them steaming on a hot skillet, the skillet was ridiculously hot and was burning his food. We finally moved his fajitas onto a regular plate, to keep them from totally burning all the meat to crisps. Next time, I ordered the mushroom quesadilla, which was supposed to come with guacamole and sour cream. It did not. Just a sad half-moon quesadilla. For 6.95. I asked the guy who brought the food where the extra things were, and his only reply was, "I don't know about that". I assumed he'd say something to our server or manager, but I guess he didn't. Because I never got my guacamole or sour cream. At least it tasted good. I do love the salsa, and generally the food is good. I just need to be more consistent. read more

I'm not a big Mexican food person, but I liked this. We went here on a Sunday evening with a very large group. They handled everything very well. The food was excellent and everyone could find something. Complimentary nachos and salsa were good. The menu is very extensive. I could barely figure out what I wanted! Would award zero stars, if possible. We've eaten there three or four times over the last few years, and it has gone from marginal to "we'll never return." Against our better judgment, we decided to give it another chance 5/11/12, a Friday evening. Seated right away; place semi-crowded; ordered water; water, chips and salsa came quickly; placed order - and waited - and waited. Others around us not getting food, either, but drinks still being served and people still being seated. Waiters would slip by us, glancing furtively at our table, but feigned ignorance of the language when we tried to ask what was going on. After 35-40 minutes, we went to the front and asked if there was a problem. The man who had seated us said he would go check - and disappeared. After several more minutes, he told us our food would be right out, so we sat down again. It was getting late and there aren't a lot of options in this small town, so we decided to tough it out. Should have gone to bed hungry. When our food finally came, after another wait, it appeared to have been slapped together. The quesadilla was barely folded, with a blob of cheese in the middle and inches of dried-out tortilla around the edges. The other meals were edible, but flavorless and greasy. We never could find a manager or anyone who would communicate with us. It was as if the kitchen had closed for a break for an hour, with no explananation or apology. My husband was so disgusted that he just left the payment on the table, with a tip, so he wouldn't have to deal with the indifferent, know-nothing attitude of the employees yet again. Amazed this place has remained in business. Drive to Springfield or St. Louis if you want Mexican food. It wouldn't take any longer. read more
