"'Cause if you like it, then you should've put a ring on it." And that's what we did for the coin ring workshop with our instructor, Kristal! Currently, Soigne has a promo for 2 people for $84 including tax (normally, $63 including tax per person), which is booked by email and paid by e-transfer. The workshop runs for 2 hours, but due to a delayed start, Kristal kindly extended it for our class. Depending on the class size, it may be quite tight on time as we had 9 people and had to queue to use the equipment. Kristal guided us through the workshop, which included: - Analyzing our coin via CoinSnap to ensure it met the requirements (e.g. no steel, no double colours, appropriate size); - Heating our coin with a blow torch; - Punching a hole in our coin; - Shaping our coin with a ring sizer; - Polishing our coin, both manually and by machine; and - Cleaning our coin with soap and water. It was such a fun and unique experience, and Kristal was lovely in helping each of us throughout the process. All of us walked out with a beautiful ring that we selected and made by hand, making it all the more memorable. In the rare case that a ring breaks during the workshop, Kristal reassured us that we could come back for free to try again. I'd love to be back to make a gold ring next time or perhaps try the upcoming fingerprint jewelry workshop. This is all to say that the workshop is worth it for both the experience and the product you get. Do note, however, that Soigne is located in East Hastings, so the neighbourhood is not particularly the safest or cleanest. Kristal also mentioned that there is heavy ticketing too, so be mindful of that when parking.

I joined soy wax candle making class for two Mason jars. It was fantastic experience. Even cold winter morning, my heart has been jumping all time. I had purchased the voucher by Groupon in September 2017 and expiry was December 2017. My frind and me had hard to time to book the date but fortunately the owner's generousity, we could book before expiry and finally we made it today, February 2019. The owner's instruction was very informative and honest. I wish I could make them at home but the idea to choose essential oil was the biggest highlight for me. I have never thought they had that such amount of collections. Not only regular one but also funky ones like Havana, bacon and sex bomb !? ;) I need to come back here to make more candles! I enjoyed whole process. And I'm sure this could be great gift for anyone.

Took the soap class and bath bombs. First time experience and it was one of the most enjoyable ones. Only 10 in a class and you get split in 2 groups. Everyone gets to be involved in the process. You come away with products and instructions and you can also buy the ingredients there. Safe and friendly environment: the instructor is super lovely. I have signed up for the next course for creams and cannot wait.

This review is for the soap making and bath bomb class. Amazing. It was an amazing experience. Beata (or Kacy...her last name she often goes by) is a great instructor and explains everything about the process and ingredients. It is a 3 hour class and in that time we made soap and bath bombs. We were split into two groups and the class is very hands on which requires everyones engagement. You get to select your essential oils, herbs & seeds...one of each for the two layers of the soap. I think I ended up with tea tree oil and mint on the bottom and lavender and cinnamon on the top. Kacy does send you a copy of the instructions for the soap if you wanted to make it at home...would require the purchasing of a few items and ingredients but very manageable. It was a very positive experience and I can definitely recommend this class and the instructor.

Breaking bad moment. Watch out for those fumes

There's been a lot said of this place. Some of it is exaggerated, some of it isn't. I recently…read moregraduated from their flagship program, Film Production. Was it worth 37 thousand dollars? Short answer, no. But, I'll provide more information. For starters, the program moves very fast. It's honestly too much to pack in one year and really benefits those with previous education and experience. In my class, the students who did well in cinematography literally all had either professional experience or degrees in film. It definitely surprised me that a lot of people from foreign countries who go to VFS already have careers and use this program to get started in North America. Beyond that, so much of your success in this program is based on how much you vibe with your class. There's new intakes every two months so it really is a dice roll. Your class only does 5-6 final projects and you and your classmates vote on which ones to do. From there, the students who get their pitch get to choose all the roles. There's literally no checks and balances from the teachers if you want a certain role and want to get your money's worth out of this THIRTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLAR program. There's also very little to do in the final term. I just wanted some more lectures to potentially learn something after the finals had fizzled out. Some positives are that you get a lot of experience with professional equipment. You get to sub through every role in the first two terms. I did learn a lot, honestly. But like, I've already directed more outside of VFS than I did in that entire year (and it has cost me a lot less!). Due to the speed of the program, you'll "learn" one type of software for one assignment and then you're already onto a new one for the next assignment. I thought I'd be covered by purchasing the entire Adobe Suite. Nope! We used Premiere Pro for Term 1 but for Term 2 we switched to Avid and that's what we used for the remainder of the course. Why? I think it's as simple as VFS wanting to include both in their course sequence. On top of that, you're expected to use a strange software called Movie Magic for budgets and schedules, because it's "industry standard". And yep, Movie Magic certainly isn't free so of course I was restricted to using the computers at school. VFS is in Gastown and it's NOT a nice area of town. It's really quite appalling what you see around there and I did not personally want to stay at school long hours into the night. If you look at how much less tuition costs in University programs like UBC, CapU, Concordia etc. I just can't imagine that they wouldn't be more value for your money. Learning this stuff over years will also just give you so much more time to develop your own ideas and projects outside of the classroom. Overall, I just cannot recommend VFS. The backpack actually is pretty nice though.

I met some incredible and talented people, improved my skills as an artist and grew as a person. What I value the most about VFS are the instructors and staff in there. They are kind, respectful and so incredibly talented. The instructors have a strong industry background and they use that knowledge to teach you what you need to know to make it in the industry. I was an international student, so getting a job after graduating was a big concern, but even after graduating I was still receiving support from my instructors and mentors. I am now working in one of the best studios in Vancouver and I know I wouldn't be here thanks to the all help I received from the people that I met at VFS (:

The order was 1 week late and Ziggy, who replied to me about the lateness said it was a source issue, which was fine. After a week, it was too late and I was going to cancel the order. They told me that the mistake was made with one day shipping because they didn't know how to change the shipping options and that they didn't actually have that option. To keep my order, they said they would refund me the shipping. They dropped off the supplies one week later than they said it would be delivered and then told me they would not issue a refund on delivery as they had to deliver it themselves and it cost more for gas. When I told them they lost me as a customer, they texted back that they "Loved" that they lost me. I want to support small business, but I don't want to give my money to rude businesses who promise they will do something and do not and in the end make excuses for their inability to do what their business is supposedly set up to do.
