The space was already so stunning - full of flowers and art- that we hardly needed additional decorations! Inside was equipped with washrooms, a well-stocked bar and a large hall which we used for the party. We are deeply grateful to Martyna, who assisted us with her friendly, responsible, and kind manner. She put in a lot of effort to ensure that our day unfolded exactly as we envisioned. My kid had her high school prom here, and there are often various community events held here, as well as private parties, receptions and weddings. Today I finally got the chance to visit the building, though, as there was a weekend-long artisan fair held here. What a lovely venue! Outside, by the entrance, there is a plaque on the facade declaring this building as a "Heritage Building" (designated as such in 1974). The actual building was built in 1915 and was first used as a post office. For those who care about architectural and design styles, the building is classified as being done in the Beaux Arts Classicism style, with a lot of ornamentation on the sculptured columns and facade's stone. There are many sculpted faces and sandstone festoons visible on the first and second story exterior. Inside, the first floor used to be a grand ballroom, and it was recently re-done (in 2015), so now there is a terrazzo floor, and where once was a huge trompe l'oeil mural is now a blank wall (bummer). There still are beautiful chandeliers and an ethereal ceiling that's reminiscent of calming green-blue sea glass. Today at the artisan fair, there were tables lined up and creating aisles in the ballroom, so the room looked somewhat small. I'd imagine the venue appearing much larger and spatially impressive without all the tables. I was impressed by this building. It was lovely inside and out. The location on Main Street is awesome, too, with tons of parking on Main and the side streets, and so many fun shops, coffee houses and restaurants nearby.

It's one of those places that feels unique rather than just being another community centre, and I love that they have rental spaces at decent prices. If you're looking for a venue for an event, it's definitely worth looking into. But honestly, one of my favourite things about the Roundhouse is their Winter Solstice event. The lighting, the atmosphere and the special performances make it feel so magical. It's one of those events that actually feels special and memorable rather than just something to get out of the house and do. The lanterns and the whole experience are absolutely beautiful. And then there's the train! Engine 374 is such a cool piece of Vancouver history, and I love that they have this historic locomotive right there in the middle of everything. It's not something you'd necessarily expect to find at a community centre, but it adds so much character to the place, and it's a great little experience for kids and adults alike.

There were about 10 tables in the room. So, not a tiny intimate wedding celebration but not a super large one either compared to pretty much most other weddings I've been to in my life which probably had 2 - 3 times as many tables in the room. There was a 6pm reception and then dinner at 7pm. At the reception, servers were walking around handing out hors d'oeuvres to the guests. Service was kinda "meh." We were standing around in a corner and saw one of the servers walk up to some other people and serve them some hors d'oeuvres, inches away from us but then they turned and walked off in another direction without actually approaching our own group to offer us some hors d'oeuvres. That was kinda weird. I ended up wandering off into the dining room and grabbing an hors d'oeuvres for myself when I saw another server with a different tray of hors d'oeuvres on it. Other than the one server who spun on their heels without offering anything to us, service from everyone else was pretty decent. I think there were about 4 different hors d'oeuvres. Two of them had meat in them so I couldn't eat those. The other two had seafood in them, which I still eat being pescatarian so I was able to enjoy those. One was a prawn tempura and the other was a crab cake. Loved the crab cake! The bar had 4 different Mocktails available. My daughter and I both ordered something called a Stingray which consisted of pineapple juice, orange juice and soda. It wasn't bad but we both decided that we prefer the taste of a Shirley Temple over a Stingray. Dinner was buffet style. Lots of different options for various dietary restrictions. The food was very good. Especially the Sablefish. Oh wow...soooo tender. I couldn't resist going back for seconds! I try to eat seafood sparingly and veer more towards Vegetarian/ Vegan most of the time but this was one of those times when being Pescatarian is really a lot more fun than being Vegetarian! I loved how they made the classic in to a radio show, it was the perfect choice, I really enjoyed being taken back to an era gone by. The other one was great too, truthful and well preformed. The space is certainly different, but the sets were both so unique, I was amazed to see them work that kind of magic in that space. Sometimes going to the theater feels like taking a risk, I feel confident that next time I come see a show here it will be good one again.

The plays presented each season are very well-chosen. The programming always possesses insightful societal relevance or a fascinating explorations of human experience, and almost always manages to do so without sacrificing the humour and delight so crucial to good theatre.

Note: It was a little hard to find since it's street number is 300, but it's not where you would expect (i.e. closest to Hamilton and W. Pender). It's on the actually on the right side of Covenant House, so the numbering is a little funky on this side of the street.

I would highly recommend royal palace to anyone looking for a reasonable priced hall with helpful staff.
