That ended up being one of our favorite parts of the stay! We also reserved a cabana, and it made the whole day feel even more relaxing and elevated. Nicole truly stood out...she was attentive, kind, and made sure our experience felt 5-star from start to finish. Even when it looked like she was handling the entire pool area on her own, she never missed a beat and still made us feel like a priority. The golf course was incredible...the first nine holes were especially scenic, and the bagpiper at sunset was such a unique and memorable touch. The food was great, the drinks were on point, and every staff member we encountered was kind and welcoming. Between the service, the atmosphere, and the little extras, it was an experience we'll definitely be back for!

Food at Brock's was delicious. Waitresses at Brock's were both great, I feel bad not recalling their names. Highly recommend the pork shank, add a side of grits to make it perfect. I see several reviews that don't match our experience. I can't wait to go back. Golf course was amazing, even with greens not being "ready" after winter. Highly recommend a visit.

The main reservation is located on Highway 16, west of Philadelphia, MS. Pockets of their tribe live in the surrounding area, ownership which became part of the reservation. Innovation & vision by a businessman elected Tribal Chief led to construction of the Silver Star Casino & Hotel, which opened in 1994. A portion of the profits went back to tribal members, which immediately raised their standard of living. Choctaw Central, the school system for the reservation, immediately attracted the best teachers with the high salaries. Not only did the casino provide jobs for the reservation, it also provided well paying jobs for the surrounding small towns. Driving down the rural road in Mississippi, as one would approach the Silver Star, it felt like you were entering the "Twilight Zone". (Are any of you young enough to remember that TV series?). In the midst of rural land there stood a glitzy Las Vegas style casino & hotel with a marquee featuring big name talent. Life had changed for Neshoba & Newton counties. Entertainment was provided for east central Mississippi & western Alabama. I remember driving around the parking lot just to see the license plate locations of the people who had come to gamble. Busses were sent to towns for day trips to the casino. Limos were sent to the casinos on the Mississippi River to pick up high rollers. The reservation is not considered a part of the county. So liquor became available in the dry Neshoba County. Upscale restaurants surround the casino floor. But I love the buffet, which offers all you can eat homestyle Southern Cooking. Breakfast is phenomenal at the buffet. Shopping is located in the area between the hotel & casino floor. A Spa provides an additional amenity. Since we own my Grandfather's home & farmland about 15 minutes south, the draw of the casino floor became old. We would go for food & entertainment, some of which was located in stage areas on the casino floor. Once parking behind the Neshoba house after driving back from my Mother's house in town, we could see the laser show at the casino vividly in the rural darkness. My late husband, who wasn't familiar with the area, thought it was a UFO. :) Over the years the area has expanded. The Golden Moon was built across the road from the Silver Star providing new restaurants and a bar in the dome atop the structure where you can view a lot of Neshoba County. Additions also include 2 championship golf courses and a water park. In recent years a smaller Casino was opened in southern Mississippi. Another is planned for Louisville, MS. The complex is now called Pearl River Resort & the reservation is Choctaw, MS. After the majority of the tribe was forced to relocate to Oklahoma in the 1820's by the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the remaining indigenous population deserves this prosperity.

The UTV experience could have been at a better pace for us, it was pretty slow/uneventful but had beautiful views. Archery and axe throwing were fun. There are 2 restaurants, Old Tom's pub was okay. Service was hit or miss and we had to send things back a couple of times. Arrington's on the other hand was absolutely fantastic. I wish I could have tried everything on their menu! I considered the breakfast buffet overpriced for the offerings. Staying at Pursell, the walls are thin. I could hear everything from the floors above me. Some parts of my room were not cleaned adequately enough. I brought this to the attention of the front desk and they listened to my concerns. Rented a meeting room where our items got pulled too soon before our reservation was complete and we could have used more assistance on the technology side when we arrived. Every employee was kind and personable. Seeing the cows was fun. Next time I come by I would love to check out their shooting range and play a round of golf. Recommend for a nice weekend getaway. Definitely eat at Arrington's.

This review is for The Suites…read more Pros -For the most part, the staff is accommodating, I wouldn't say overly friendly. -The beach is clean for the most part, fairly small and full of vendors during the day. There's a nice swing photo op on the beach and beach chairs are typically readily available -The view from our balcony was good. The room fridge was stocked with two red stripes, two modelos, two pear juices, two club sodas, one sprite, and three cokes. Water is provided through a filtered system in the hallway and they provide a refillable canteen to use. There's also a bottle of Jamaican Brandy in your room. -The game room - my son loved the foosball table and pool tables -The Michael Jackson tribute show was good and the silent dance party was excellent. The Jamaican Heritage show was good as well. All activities at Waves. -Red pea soup at the Jamaica restaurant was the best food on the entire resort Cons -The pool needs more than one treatment per day. It was really nasty throughout the day with puddles of grime -Breakfast options- get there early. Staff doesn't care about refilling things that run out -The smell of the resort is bad - mildew mixed with musk and the design is very old and closed in -The grounds---the lack of fountains (or turning them on) and pretty, green lush is telling. -Ordering a burger from room service- the burger always arrived medium rare no matter how I asked for it to be prepared. -The lazy river isn't really a lazy river---you can walk the entire thing. There isn't really a current -My husband is a pescatarian that doesn't eat dairy. Food was very hard for him to find at this resort -Limited dining options post breakfast and pre-dinner (mostly jerk chix, hamburger and hotdogs or caesar salad) -Limited dining options for dinner due to food quality and taste. For example, we walked over to Waves to try something different. We made a reservation for the Hibachi restaurant. The hibachi was absolutely disgusting. All the food tasted like green seasoning. We tried the infamous Jamaican restaurant---lots of people were waiting. My husband was dying to try the escovitch snapper. I wanted to try it to. Unfortunately, the two nights we tried the restaurant, I could not order the fish. They limited the orders per table and ran out of the fish after 3-4 orders. The chef was nice and offered me oxtails, but they were so tough. -The first few days were tough...there were very rowdy crews at the pool bar. They were dressed half naked and smoking at the bar. DIdn't make it family friendly which sucked because we were traveling with my son. The pool area is not well kept throughout the day. No one really comes through to clean up the water, trash, old towels, etc. Someone comes through about once per day at the end of the day. You have to try hard to clean off an area to sit by the pool. -Concierge was nice until we said no to the timeshare meeting. I thought it would be a true concierge that would be a POC and assistant. Nope. They only care about the timeshare booking. -marijuana sellers and smokers aren't well controlled. If that's your thing, fine. Why does my family have to be subjected to it? -The circus act in the theatre at the Suites---you couldn't even sit through it because the theatre was scorching hot. I wish we would've chosen Hyatt Ziva.

We arrived at the…read morewedding party, and from the moment we checked in, there was no overview of the amenities. We were told to find everything on the app. They also tried to get us to attend a "breakfast" at their higher-end section of the resort, claiming it wasn't a timeshare meeting but merely a chance to show us around. However, when we declined the friendly attitude of the "guest service" rep changed. Throughout the week, we noticed that the staff was not friendly; often, they wouldn't make eye contact or even speak to us. Often it would be something as simple as us asking politely for a coffee cup for breakfast and they would just walk away, grab a mug return with it sit it down, and then walk away with no words spoken. The air conditioning in the hotel broke down for a day and a half, and they offered no solutions, displaying an attitude of indifference. We frequently missed housekeeping service, and on the day before we left, we spotted the housekeeper in our room after 5 PM. When we offered to leave and come back later, she tracked us down in the hallway and insinuated she was off the following day. She asked if we liked how she had been cleaning our room, which came across as her asking for a tip. My husband ended up tipping her, and then she walked away. Our balcony was covered in bird poop so we were unable to sit out there and enjoy the view. On our floor, there was a leak in the ceiling, and their solution was simply to place a bucket underneath it. Consequently, for the whole week, there was a bucket in the middle of the hallway. Moreover, we often saw security personnel hiding on our floor. They frequently positioned themselves on window sills, watching TV since our floor wasn't busy and was closer to the end. The hotel itself needs repairs and a thorough cleaning. It is advertised as a 5-star hotel, and I have no idea how that is even possible. Everything seemed old and outdated, especially the rooms and bathrooms, and the only set of elevators had holes and cracks throughout. The food was just okay, with only buffet service available in the morning. Room service ends at 10 PM, and breakfast is not offered through room service. The pool area is nice, but guests receive only one towel per person via a card. If you lose the card or if the towel gets taken, there is a $25 fee. The pool bar was average, but they often served certain people ahead of others. My husband would wait 10-15 minutes for a drink while watching others get served immediately. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and I definitely won't return. The old, outdated building and rude staff made our stay disappointing, and the fact that we couldn't wait to leave speaks volumes.

I like to imagine the industry that played out in the space where I'm resting, the thought of someone taking a break from wheeling and dealing to look out of this same window in the 1940s and what else was going on around them. I'd never been to Meridian before, just passed through on the same road trip home after the holidays. It's about 4 and a half hours from NOLA and the perfect place to stay before the final leg of the trip home so that we'd be home at a reasonable hour. Meridian feels a bit frozen in time and this hotel is situated in a quaint downtown area. It's not very lively, even on a Saturday night but I believe the rooftop bar here might be where the action is (I passed it by when getting water in the gym that's on the same floor). I like a Tribute property, which always promises a less corporate/more boutique stay. It has its charm (original mail chute, be still my heart!) and quirks (tiny rooms, old timey elevators that take their time). The main lobby is mainly the restaurant (closed when I arrived around 9pm on a Saturday) with reception in what seems like bank teller windows. I appreciate the convenience of a Starbucks right next door (entrance from the lobby) and if we weren't looking to rest after a endless car ride, there's a few places to get food/drinks within walking distance. Rooms are cozy, beds are excellent and the bathroom is small/nothing special. Would this be an ideal stay for a vacation? Probably not, though I don't expect a vacation in Meridian anytime soon, if ever. I'd stay again, as a more interesting road trip stay than your typical Marriott Courtyards/Fairfield/Residence Inns. When we stayed it was only a little over 100 dollars/night, which is pretty sweet.
