Before the opening of the Silver Star Casino in 1994 the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians were a poor group of indigenous peoples. The main reservation is located on Highway 16, west of Philadelphia, MS. Pockets of their tribe live in the surrounding area, ownership which became part of the reservation. Innovation & vision by a businessman elected Tribal Chief led to construction of the Silver Star Casino & Hotel, which opened in 1994. A portion of the profits went back to tribal members, which immediately raised their standard of living. Choctaw Central, the school system for the reservation, immediately attracted the best teachers with the high salaries. Not only did the casino provide jobs for the reservation, it also provided well paying jobs for the surrounding small towns. Driving down the rural road in Mississippi, as one would approach the Silver Star, it felt like you were entering the "Twilight Zone". (Are any of you young enough to remember that TV series?). In the midst of rural land there stood a glitzy Las Vegas style casino & hotel with a marquee featuring big name talent. Life had changed for Neshoba & Newton counties. Entertainment was provided for east central Mississippi & western Alabama. I remember driving around the parking lot just to see the license plate locations of the people who had come to gamble. Busses were sent to towns for day trips to the casino. Limos were sent to the casinos on the Mississippi River to pick up high rollers. The reservation is not considered a part of the county. So liquor became available in the dry Neshoba County. Upscale restaurants surround the casino floor. But I love the buffet, which offers all you can eat homestyle Southern Cooking. Breakfast is phenomenal at the buffet. Shopping is located in the area between the hotel & casino floor. A Spa provides an additional amenity. Since we own my Grandfather's home & farmland about 15 minutes south, the draw of the casino floor became old. We would go for food & entertainment, some of which was located in stage areas on the casino floor. Once parking behind the Neshoba house after driving back from my Mother's house in town, we could see the laser show at the casino vividly in the rural darkness. My late husband, who wasn't familiar with the area, thought it was a UFO. :) Over the years the area has expanded. The Golden Moon was built across the road from the Silver Star providing new restaurants and a bar in the dome atop the structure where you can view a lot of Neshoba County. Additions also include 2 championship golf courses and a water park. In recent years a smaller Casino was opened in southern Mississippi. Another is planned for Louisville, MS. The complex is now called Pearl River Resort & the reservation is Choctaw, MS. After the majority of the tribe was forced to relocate to Oklahoma in the 1820's by the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the remaining indigenous population deserves this prosperity. read more

Why oh why has 2 of 4 elevators to the guest rooms in the Golden STILL inoperable for 3 years???!! Normally not such an issue but this Presidents Day 3 day weekend has 4 buses of people I am told and no way to use an elevator with all our luggage. Normally we could use stairs but where the heck are they??? Last night and this is old news as we stay ( more than I care to) the toilet is bubbling up as though the sewer is sounding as if it will explode any minute. So bad at one point toilet water is splashing out of toilet!!! Please make Jennifer ( McCallum) in Stats Restaurant head of customer service!!! She knows customer service! So many folks working here are kind but just as many look as though they would rather be anywhere than here at Pearl River working. Room had not been cleaned in a while. Black mold in ac vent. I refused to even shower in it. Noisy, dimly lit hallways. Slamming doors at all hours, loud adults & kids. You can hear tvs at all hours. Not being from the area the hubs and I were looking for something to do and since he enjoys playing 21 we decided to hit the casino. The casino was very clean, smelled a little smoky from folks smoking but the smell wasn't as strong as some casinos I've been in. There's a great selection of slots to play as well as card tables. There a steak house at the back of the casino- we were going to try it but they didn't open until 5p and we were there a bit earlier. The staff they we did encounter was nice. If we're ever in the area again we'd definitely stop in. read more

Haven't stayed in the hotel lately, but my husband and I go 1 or 2 times a month. We have been to every casino in Ms and Pearl River is still the best run casino that we have visited. Our favorite places to eat are The Bistro and Stats. Mostly due to the hours of operation. The Stats has great rib plates and the catfish and chicken fried steak are really good at The Bistro. Yes they need to do a deep clean of the casino. There should not be layered dust or dirty glass in the casino, rooms or restaurants. Most all the staff are friendly and sometimes you get a tired employee. This isn't Vegas, but it is a good place to go and have some fun. Just maybe even win a little money. read more

Silver star stay July 30-august 1. Rooms need remodeling updated. We asked for smoking room, it smelled terrible from Marijuana. Most of staff encounters were pretty rude or not caring. Restaurant food was average at best at Bistro and Stats..for the price they charged for food , not good. Spent total 2 nights about 6-7 hours playing games , only had 1 server ask if I needed a drink. Aside from the games being fun, I will probably drive the extra hour from Birmingham area to go to tunica next time. read more

The casino is a casino. If you are into slots and tables this place has it. They seem to get new slot machines in often which is nice. However they recently started to allow smoking on the casino floor again after a long time ban, which I think is wrong. It's bad for the health of the customers and especially the workers who have to breath that in all day long! Because of this we won't be going back. If you are there for a day trip, then maybe this isn't a big deal, but the dining options are boring. They serve nothing but American cuisine across all dining outlets. After staying in the hotel for a couple of days, it starts getting really old - bleh. Add to that, slow staff and service makes matters worse.The only thing keeping the place alive are the comps to draw folks in to play and people with a gambling problem that have no problem blowing their paycheck at this place every week. read more

We stayed at Golden Moon casino for the NAYO tournament for the weekend. Plenty of parking around the Casino including valet parking. The registration staff was hospitable including the staff throughout the casino floors and restaurants. The casino is clean and the gaming floor isn't overwhelming like some and was easy to navigate and it's non smoking on the floor, has plenty of machines and card tables. Inside the Golden Moon is a small store for drinks for chips, candy and merchandise; a coffee and sweets shop, bar area, golf shop, small clothing boutique, large convention room, a pool (covered and uncovered) and plenty of great restaurants within the casino (service is usually slow). Our room was large, beds comfy and pillows fluffy, large spacious bathroom with a tub and nice size shower, room doesn't have microwave or mini fridge would be nice to have microwaves on the floors near vending area to heat up leftovers (my opinion). The rooms were awful and the customer service was lacking, front desk staff was incompetent, specifically Jennifer. To be in management and knot know how to read your own system is incomprehensible and to try to overcharge and not let a guest speak is just crazy. Once she realized she was wrong she didnt say sorry, only threw a receipt my waYou would think with all the money spent here gambling the least they could do is have the rooms presentable. I had the first room with water damage on the lamp shades, a dirty sofa, the toilet wouldn't stop running, and a filthy bed skirt ONLY to get changed to another room where the bed skirt was just as nasty, the carpet was stained and the tub was constantly running along with the toilet. read more

I hate to give bad reviews but this was THEE worst hotel I've ever stayed at. I was here for work and I could not get out of there fast enough. The entire hotel and all of the rooms (even the non smoking rooms) smell like cigarettes. The hallways a spooky and dark. The first room I was put in HAD NO WINDOWS. One of the valet drivers was extremely rude. AND I couldn't find anything to eat inside. The only nice thing in the hotel is their underutilized gym. I should have stayed across the street but I guess we get what we pay for. read more

I could count the cars in the parking lot - not sure why you wouldn't put a guest as far up as possible for a view (at the very least). Room was minimal clean at BEST. Bathroom- PUKE! (Again- pictures below) That footprint in the bathtub is not mine! Mold around the toilet & along the wall. I am celiac- so I brought my own food, all I needed was a microwave (hopefully a fairly new one that's not CC) .... Room doesn't have one so I called to get one delivered- NOPE! They do not have one that they can send to the room. NOW - I get to eat a COLD leftover dinner I brought from home b/c I have no choice. I'll start with the room...there was hair in the bathroom sink, the counter had a spill of some kind and the floor was not clean. There was a used wash cloth hanging over the shower curtain rod. Clearly the cleanliness of the room was given very little attention. One of the sources of enjoyment at a casino is the food. We look forward to a good buffet. Upon arrival we asked about the buffet only to find that it is only open on the weekends. (We were there Tuesday through Thursday) NOWHERE in the website did we see that fact. That's where our disappointment began. Ok, there are other options for food...we'll adjust. We park our bags in the room and head down to gamble...there were 2 blackjack tables open and NO craps tables. We are not slots gamblers so again...disappointed. I do play video poker and that was available. We went to both casinos and the table situation was similar at both. The ONLY positive about our trip was our dinner at Phillip M's. The food was excellent and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Hate to say it but we won't be back. read more

Stayed at the Pearl River for a trade show during the week. The right one were very nice and refurbished and were a pleasant surprise. You will enjoy the staying accommodations. Tried to get a drink the evening before the trade show and the main bar was closed and the only bar available was on the casino floor and had limited options for alcohol. Was not impressed. Was looking for a restaurant to eat at and the one main was Closed for a private event so we left the resort and went into town for dinner. The morning of the show tried to get breakfast but the only thing open in our resort was a little sandwich counter unless you wanted to walk all the to the other resort building. I was very disappointed overall in he options available and will not be returning to the resort to stay. When attending any event in the future I will definitely stay in town. read more

So...I go here often to play poker on Friday and Saturday. PRR has done a lot in keeping things sanitized for their customers. Until recently masks were mandatory for everyone. Now, anyone who has been vaxxed with proof may enter without a mask. They still have hand sanitizer located throughout the building and at the poker tables. Smoking is no longer allowed throughout the casino, instead there are designated smoking areas for smokers. There are a few more changes you will pick up on some a little annoying some not so much. read more

My hosts frequent this casino. It's ok. I'm from Vegas so I always expect things to be a little better but it usually isn't. It was hard trying to find something to eat on a budget. Most of the restaurants are about four miles away in Philadelphia, MS. We just had some french fries they were ok...meh.... Very upset! We were promised the executive king suite weeks in advance when booking by the reservations desk for our anniversary! Usually we go elsewhere and we're very excited to spend our special night in the pearl river, only to be given the most basic room! We didn't drive 4 hours only to spend our anniversary in room that looks like a motel 6! When we called to see what the mistake was we were told that the representative Of the casino had apparently lied to us! Went here last night on a crowded Saturday, same as always the pass 5 years, machines are tight, smelly, old people hogging up machines, old women with their big as purses taking up a extra seat, ghetto people, low budget vibe. We are frequent visitors here. Always have free rooms, food and bonus bet. Our rooms have always been clean. We usually stay in Silverstar we like the slots there better. Have never won much in Goldenmoon. Bad luck I guess. Bistro is always great. Stats has been hit or miss. Phillip M's is awesome if your feeling rich. Would like to see more updated slots. I have just started playing here again after 5 years. I prefer the Indian casinos to the higher end ones on the gulf. Being from Alabama, I have been a loyal Wind Creek casino player, but recently have wanted a change and really want to start coming back to Pearl River. My main complaint with this has been the comps have taken too long to come on to my account. I have found myself in Biloxi 5 times since coming in to Pearl River because Biloxi offers came fast and that's what a professional gambler like me wants to see! Also the phone customer service is not good and the staff needs training. I know that Wind Creek does survey call backs to insure the customer service people do a good job. I enjoy Pearl River but so much needs to improve. Loosening the slots a little would hurt a player's feeling either. Lol read more

We stayed two nights at Pearl River Resort and got one of the nights free. The room was clean when we arrived but they did not have a mini fridge which was odd. The casino area was clean but it took forever for anyone to offer you a drink. Even tipping $5 for one drink they still never hardly came around. We went to the pool and the bar was closed. The pool had tons of leaves in it and had not been cleaned in a while. The hot tubs were very cloudy and had a good bit of leaves in them as well. The thing me and my buddies had the biggest problem with is the pool, hot tubs, message treatments close at 8:00pm. When we asked the front desk about everything closing so early they agreed it should stay open longer. I'm only giving the resort 3 stars because we got a free night. The buffet was $30 and the salad was the best part. The steak tasted like a rubber shoe which stems from really cheap meat. Some employees were really nice and other looked like they hated their job. We are going to try another casino next time. read more

Came here for a conference, it was nice large space. Great conference rooms, exhibit space, linked to another nice big space across the street. Stayed on this side and walked over to the golden moon. This place is a dumpster fire. The hotel room is dirty, furniture was out of place, pills were sitting on the tv stand, bathroom floor was sticky, bed didn't have a fitted sheet, etc. There was a refrigerator sitting in the hallway half the time we stayed. Staff is extremely rude and will literally ignore you and continue to talk to each other. Restaurant ran out of food hours before closing time. Half the areas were closed. Many signs saying things were closed for scheduled maintenance, yet no work was being done. Save your money and go somewhere else to gamble. Buying scratch offs at a run down gas station is a more enjoyable gaming experience. read more

First of all I have to say that the rooms are very very dated especially at the Silverstar. I'm in the suite and there are no pictures on the walls the furniture is like from the 70s and it definitely needs updating. The people here are so unfriendly I don't know if it's the Native American culture or what but they are not nice. They don't smile they don't go out of their way for you it feels like you're inconveniencing them. The comps are pretty good I have to say but other than that I would not go out of my way to come here. read more

With almost nothing to do in this part of the country, I was relieved to find a place like Pearl River Resort while I was working in the area. I traveled several times a few hours to get away. Perfect stays in one of there two resort-grade hotels. I had a great time in their casinos. Its true that the drinks flowed like molasses in the slots but we remedied that real quick by finding one of our favorite games on the computer slots at one of the bars!!! Pearl River Resort also has an awesome water park, Geyser Falls Water Theme Park, down the street. Its tucked into a beautiful forest, and once your inside the park it feels like if you walked into a tropical wonderland! Its tucked in like a hidden beach inside the forest! Its surreal. We had a lot of fun with the family. It has a lot to offer for the adults and the kids alike. I didn't get to go golfing at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club but had heard great things about this course. Overall, we all had a great time and am very pleased to have found this tucked away resort that offered plenty of R&R! read more

Came for a birthday to stay at the Golden Moon and first the room was not ready. Then the desk clerk gave us completely opposite directions to the hotel elevator when it was ready. The rooms have not been dusted in forever. By that I mean the headboards and the ledge that runs above it. The only decent meal we had was the breakfast buffet. We ate at the Bistro 24 for dinner and the food was cafeteria quality at best. It was dry and had no flavor. And the Stats sports bar was even worse. The chicken tasted as if they took it right from the package to the grill with no flavor at all. The penny machines were paying ok. But we were very disappointed there are no birthday perks like other casinos we visit. There are also no other perks for card holders. We are not going to visit again. read more

I stayed for only one night for a film shoot in a city near by so my point of observation is very limited. We arrived late the night before but was confused as to where to check in. Normally there are bellhops/ staff in front of resorts greeting guest as they pull up. We saw no one in any type of uniform. Only people waiting for cars or maybe buses? Not sure. But the other cars in front were making there own confusing parking to pickup/drop off passengers. I reasoned it was after 10pm so maybe they were just low on staff. Once we called the hotel front desk from our car we were instructed our hotel was across the opposite side in the newer hotel . We pulled up and again no one was there to greet us. Once we went to check in we informed them we would need assistance with our luggage. The staff was extremely friendly just a bit inconvenient for me as a guest. We had to locate the velvet and the bellhop. Again once they arrived they were very welcoming and helpful. Little things I recall when arriving at other resorts seem to be lacking. Minor things with opening doors and taking luggage quickly and efficiently where you as a guest did not have to worry and felt overly compelled to tip for the service seemed to be missing. I of course am dedicated with always tipping unless service is extremely unpleasant so when we arrived on our floor they disappeared before we were settled. It was as if they were not used to being tipped or that it was an option. We did manage to locate those that assisted us the following day and were able to tip. I guess for a resort I expected more. On a positive note, the rooms were very nice and the bathroom / shower in the room (a huge selling point for me) was very nice as well. Caution: if you have an allergy to smoke be careful. The smoke smell is through out the entire hotel and on every floor. Maybe if we return and stayed a bit longer I could get a better read on the place. read more
