The problem was that when we got there there place was VERY DIRTY. The roll away beds were stacked in the breakfast area and they were filthy. I expressed my concerns to the front desk and the woman on duty was completely rude. She then stuck us in a room as far away from the elevator as possible. I had asked for a handicap room as I was traveling with my 80 year old mother (she ignored my request). The room smelled like urine, the curtains were falling off the wall the bathroom was water damaged. I contacted corporate and they acted very concerned, although, after speaking to them on 2 occasions they never even called me back. Looks like HI has problems on many levels and will not be getting my business in the future!!

They gave me another room, which was slightly less gross, but honestly..... unless you're planning a sketchy one night stand or filming a hotel horror movie, I'd recommend staying somewhere else. Hotel and Motel Fire Safety Act of 1990 states that all hotels and motels that accommodate to the public are required by federal law to have working sprinkler systems and fire alarms in every room. According the other yelp reviewers this is a common problem. Ours was missing a smoke detector while other had plastic bags one their sprinklers in their rooms. We chose a non smoking room and it reeked of cigarette smoke so that doesn't even matter. The beds had stains, the toilet seat was hanging on with one bolt. When looking for a place to stay the night, this "may" be ok for one night but I wouldn't recommend staying any longer than that. Remember, you get what you pay for.

We had two rooms paid for by the city of Philadelphia because we were involved in the Festival in downtown Philadelphia. The show went long, and after a horrible visit to the nearby Huddle House that took about two hours, we tried to check in. It was about 2:15 AM. The front-desk person told us that we were not allowed to check in past 2 AM and that it was just a rule the company has now. The people who took over the hotel are run by the casino and they said it's an unwritten rule. Not only that, they say that they DELETE any reservations at that time. They don't post this anywhere, and have no proof that that is even a rule. The front desk man was not even helpful or understanding - was short, rude, and frustrating. We spent an hour on the phone with the people who had made the reservation, who had to REBOOK the reservation. It was one of the most annoying and frustrating experiences, and I have stayed in hotels all over the world. Save your money and go somewhere that is helpful and courteous!!

The main reservation is located on Highway 16, west of Philadelphia, MS. Pockets of their tribe live in the surrounding area, ownership which became part of the reservation. Innovation & vision by a businessman elected Tribal Chief led to construction of the Silver Star Casino & Hotel, which opened in 1994. A portion of the profits went back to tribal members, which immediately raised their standard of living. Choctaw Central, the school system for the reservation, immediately attracted the best teachers with the high salaries. Not only did the casino provide jobs for the reservation, it also provided well paying jobs for the surrounding small towns. Driving down the rural road in Mississippi, as one would approach the Silver Star, it felt like you were entering the "Twilight Zone". (Are any of you young enough to remember that TV series?). In the midst of rural land there stood a glitzy Las Vegas style casino & hotel with a marquee featuring big name talent. Life had changed for Neshoba & Newton counties. Entertainment was provided for east central Mississippi & western Alabama. I remember driving around the parking lot just to see the license plate locations of the people who had come to gamble. Busses were sent to towns for day trips to the casino. Limos were sent to the casinos on the Mississippi River to pick up high rollers. The reservation is not considered a part of the county. So liquor became available in the dry Neshoba County. Upscale restaurants surround the casino floor. But I love the buffet, which offers all you can eat homestyle Southern Cooking. Breakfast is phenomenal at the buffet. Shopping is located in the area between the hotel & casino floor. A Spa provides an additional amenity. Since we own my Grandfather's home & farmland about 15 minutes south, the draw of the casino floor became old. We would go for food & entertainment, some of which was located in stage areas on the casino floor. Once parking behind the Neshoba house after driving back from my Mother's house in town, we could see the laser show at the casino vividly in the rural darkness. My late husband, who wasn't familiar with the area, thought it was a UFO. :) Over the years the area has expanded. The Golden Moon was built across the road from the Silver Star providing new restaurants and a bar in the dome atop the structure where you can view a lot of Neshoba County. Additions also include 2 championship golf courses and a water park. In recent years a smaller Casino was opened in southern Mississippi. Another is planned for Louisville, MS. The complex is now called Pearl River Resort & the reservation is Choctaw, MS. After the majority of the tribe was forced to relocate to Oklahoma in the 1820's by the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the remaining indigenous population deserves this prosperity.

There were communication issues with the receptionist at the beginning..then moving on to the room, the ac would blow cold air, then just cut off in the middle of the night, waking my husband and I up every time it turned off. There was no fitted sheet on our bed, what appeared to be blood stains on the sheet, and cigarette burns in the cover. There was a power outlet with "danger" across the top of it. The chair was covered in stains. Plus we paid $154 for two nights which is ridiculous for that terrible room. We literally left in the middle of the night and found another room nearby. Will not be returning to this hotel.

We really enjoyed the Cole House. The inkeepers and owners, The Waltons are very friendly and welcoming hosts. We stayed in the Cottage, which is a private little room w/a porch and bathroom behind the main house. It is close to the casinos if you are interested in heading up to play some cards, catch a concert, or check out a buffett. Very quaint, clean, and full of all kinds of antiques. The main dining room is large for many guests to enjoy meals together. Across from the B&B is a lovely gazebo in a large park area, which could be great for a small wedding party also. All in all, very good first B&B experience!
