I was one of the first customers that ate at Sofra when it opened up six years ago. Always had an excellent experience here. I usually ate here at least twice a month or more for six years. And brought guests constantly . The food was always well prepared and at a reasonable price. The owner was always very friendly. BUT I will never again go back to Sofra after my experience last night. Last night I went with a couple of people that I had raved about this restaurant to. The owner, who certainly must've recognized me from the countless times I've eaten there in five years, barely grunted at me and the vibes I got from him were not very welcoming. He seemed really angry about something and was taking it out on his customers. There was only one other table that had customers and this was a Friday night. I found that really odd because other restaurants surrounding Sofra had lots of people sitting outside eating at their restaurants I ordered a falafel plate and others at our table ordered the İskender and another entrée. I practically passed out when I got the bill because I guess I didn't check the prices when I was ordering. The falafel plate, which was basically a spoonful of salad, a spoonful of rice, a few hard burned falafel, soup and a dribbling of tahini was $33. This is obscene. When this restaurant first opened they were charging for the same plate $15 and then they went to $25 after a few years which I thought was pretty high for the food we were getting but $33 is just plain greedy. I won't even do a review on the other two entrées because my party could barely eat them. I now see why there was nobody, literally nobody in this restaurant on a Friday night. And the owner, what happened to him? he used to be such a friendly guy and now he is just an angry man. The waitress never went back to check on us and refill our water after taking our order. Despite only two tables with customers in this restaurant. I read some of the reviews where owner says he hates the fucking country so why doesn't he just leave? There's plenty of really good Mediterranean restaurants that are not going to charge this kind of money for Mediterranean food. Even if the felafel was the best falafel I've ever eaten in my entire life - $33 is crazy. And it was not very good felafel - in fact all the food is mediocre. Where it once was amazing. So my suggestion to the owner is to lower his prices, improve the quality of his food and improve his attitude read more

I come to this place based on some reviews I had seen and thought I would try the saganaki. Unfortunately, they no longer have it. The restaurant decor and atmosphere is quite nice with a few tables outside. Seems this place was severely understaffed and it seemed like it was 2 people that were trying to take care of a bunch of patrons. I would've loved to give a higher rating but the wait was just a bit too long for the time I had. I ultimately ended up just eating the soup and taking the Adana kebab to go. The menu is uncomplicated - soups, salads, kebabs, all authentic, tasty, and made with unmistakable passion. We always start with a sharing platter of humus, tabbouleh, stuffed grape leaves, and a bottomless supply of warm pita. A fresh green salad to follow along with THE BEST CHICKEN SOUP I HAVE EVER TASTED (sorry Grandma). Chicken or beef on skewers grilled with a perfect char - moist and delicious. Sides of rice. Delicious Mediterranean cuisine. We came on a Sunday afternoon to meet up with family while the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival was going on. I ordered the Beyti kebab that came with lemon chicken soup and a salad. A Mediterranean beer would have been preferred but I went with a Modelo. The lemon chicken soup was delicioso. The beyti kebab was ground lamb topped with tomato sauce and yogurt, a delicious sauce to scoop up with the pita bread. We all brought home some remainders -- the portions are big and come with a zesty salad and bulgur. This place you used to be amazing but, we went for a late lunch and had a horrible experience. We were not in greeted by the owner who was the only one working and we were the only ones in the restaurant during are almost two hour dining experience. The food was salty and never came to ask how everything was. The bathroom smelled like an outhouse the urinal would not flush. He sat the whole time and was doing book work. He did let us bring our own wine in which was nice. This place was closed down in the past due to roaches but, wanted to give it another chance. Went there the other night, and the restaurant happened to be closing early. However, the staff was so kind and accommodating and allowed my friend and I to eat there. Even though, they were working on closing out the kitchen and cash register they accommodated us, which I greatly appreciated. The food was great as well, all the ingredients tasted fresh. I walked in to Sofra on a Saturday night in a quest to satisfy my craving for some Mediterranean kabab. I was greeted and seated instantly by friendly staff. I ended up ordering the lamb chop platter as my server suggested. The meal started with a choice of soup and I went for the lemon chicken. The soup was hearty, flavorful, full of chicken and vegetables. It was really delicious and a very great start to the meal. My food came out relatively fast. I was very impressed with the side salad. It was bright and beautiful and tasted very fresh. The only thing I would suggest is to add a sweet note to it. maybe some cranberries. Lamb chops were cooked perfectly, they were tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. I would've liked more seasoning on them though. I especially love the grilled sweet peppers, they added a lot of flavor. The bulgur was delicious - cooked in what seemed like a tomato based sauce. Very very good, well seasoned and the perfect side. Pita was fresh and soft. I ordered baklava to go and was very impressed. It was delicious and tasted fresh. It pairs well with ice cream. My suggestion would be to serve it with ice cream in the restaurant if they don't already. Overall, I really liked the ambience of this place. This would be a great dinner spot. Met my friend here, before I went on vacation, as this is our favorite local place! We start with the Grilled Octopus, which is the best we've ever had anywhere. IMO, the Lemon Chicken Soup is not to be missed; my friend has the Lentil Soup which is also very good. The star of the meal is the Mixed Grill Platter, which has five different meats, all very tasty, along with a grain choice and salad. We share a bottle of excellent wine, and spend a couple of hours delighting over the wonderful food in front of us. And the service is excellent, too! read more

Great to find a turkish restaurant in Lake Worth. While prices are on the high side, the portions are generous and can be shared. The service was great. The pita bread served with the appetizer is delicious and comes nicely warm. The tomato sauce on the Saksuka tasted like a standard marina sauce and could use some seasoning, onions and peppers to make it perfect, I would suggest. The menu says that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays they serve Pides and Lahmacun which we would have loved to try and will the next time if we have the chance. We have passed this place several times and I have wanted to come in. I saw their mixed grill photos on yelp and finally went here on a Saturday at around 1pm. As others stated parking is a pain. Be prepared to walk a distance which is good to walk off the food you just ate, could be bad if it was pouring. Luckily we had a rain free trip. We walked up to the place and there was a couple sitting outside and they told us as we walked in that the food was delicious. When we went inside we were told to sit where ever we wanted by the only man that was visible in the restaurant. When he came to our table to take our order we were informed that everything is made fresh in house. We ordered the mixed cold appetizer which had Hummas, Piyaz ( which was a mix of white beans, parsley, onions and peppers) tabuli, shakshukra, tzatki and fresh made grape leaves. Everything was delicious. My husband, who normally does not like hummus, loved the hummus, the piyaz was nice and refreshing, the grape leaves were the best I ever had. The Shakshukra was the star of the show for this one. I will probably go here and order 2 appetizers of this weekly as we love this with eggs on top for breakfast. We also ordered the mixed grilled meat platter which was $32.00. That came with Gyro, Beef and chicken kabob, turkey flat meatballs made of lamb, and lamb chops. It also had a salad on the plate and you had a choice of Rice or Bulgar. We never had bulgar so we chose that. I love love love gyro meat and I had mixed feelings on this. It tasted like a better quality of meat but you could see the grill marks, yet it was oily. As if they added oil after? The meat should not have been oily and that was a turn off. The beef and chicken had good flavor but they were charred on the outside and almost over done. The lamb chops were pounded flat and also were cooked almost well done. So much potential here but a little too hot of a grill or just left on too long. There was only one table inside when we walked in. When we went to leave table of 8 or 10 came in speaking another language with the man who was helping us and it took us a while to get our check and leave. I thought Sofra was okay and given the location and indifferent service I probably would have enjoyed it more had I ordered takeout. There was also an external - non restaurant created problem. We sat at an outdoor table and we were inundated by discourteous cigarette smokers from standing patrons from a nearby restaurant as well as people walking by. The prices here are reasonable especially when considering how large portions can be and entrees come with soup and salad and I can't even remember when soup or salad were included with dinner. The very generous sized Mixed Appetizer Platter was very good with a lot of great authentic Turkish flavors and spices. Sometimes Grape Leaves and Hummus can just be an afterthought but here they were very good but even better were the Tabuli and Saksuka. A Beef entree had good flavor but the beef was a little tough and chewy. A Chicken Lemon Soup wasn't good with a thin broth and dry chicken. Let me start with the most important detail - the food is exceptionally good! We arrived on a Saturday night at 6:30 before the Lake Worth playhouse production. We were warmly greeted and the evening started off well. Don and I split the mixed grill entree which was enough for three people! Leah had the falafel entree and she commented about how perfectly prepared they were: moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The grilled meats were perfectly prepared too and the tzatziki was delicious! But by 7pm, the place filled up and there were only two servers. We were abandoned for too long, despairing for a water refill, and then the check. I don't know if some staff called out or more people showed up than were expected. What a find, and right under my nose! How did I miss this place?? It's probably because it's next to a great sushi spot but I'm so glad I finally tried this place, it's amazing!! The long-story-short this is a premium quality Turkish eatery with upscale vibes and service but NOT an upscale price! They offer high quality meals at great prices and that's a lovely thing in these difficult times. Perfect for meat eaters and vegetarians, excellent for a lunch meeting, amazing for date night or date lunch, this place does it all. The music, the food, the service, it all makes you think you should be paying more. We had the hummus, tzatziki, phyllo, falafel, and lentil soup and plenty of pita. Everything was a hit. Lentil soup is so good I'd come back just for more of that. Even carry out! Just needs good bread (or pita!) and you're in for a fine treat. Not your typical lentil soup as it's been blended so it's light and bursting with flavor. When it hit the table I thought "man this is a big portion", after I was done i thought "man, I wish I had a bigger bowl". That's life... moral of the story, order two bowls? Hummus was good! Standard but up to par. Nice portion too. Tzatziki was creamy and cucumbery and garlicky and had a great dill flavor that tied it all together. Falafel was nicely made. Crispy and light, I enjoyed it very much. 6 come in an order and it's more than enough to share. I also had their Merlot, the serving per glass is generous. The wine was tasty. It was a good pairing as well. Alright so my favorite dish was (drumroll please....) ...the phyllo! While the spinach phyllo roll was sold out the cheese phyllo rolls were just so damn delicious! Crunchy, delicate, fresh, the cheese is bursting with flavor and the texture is spot on. This is an absolute home run of a dish, and I would def recommend ordering one or two for the table. Classic, but nicely done. Overall for a ton of vegetarian dishes that filled two stomachs (and a glass of wine) the bill was under $50! Can you believe that??? That's fresh pita, tzatziki, hummus, phyllo rolls, falafel, a glass of Merlot, and two complimentary teas.... less than $50! No excuses anymore for most men not taking their lady's out to a nice dinner. This place makes that possible, and the fine service of our server (name was possibly Eddy) it all deserves 5/5. I'll give this place, three stars only because the quality of the food was good, but with the price it wasn't. Do not get me wrong. The food was fresh and very tasteful. But a little bit on the pricey side for the small amount of food that we got. I ordered a side of hummus and it was a very small portion for $8. Which my hummus wasn't in it own container. I also got a chicken kebab with rice ,a small salad, and a lemon chicken soup. My boyfriend ordered his falafel which he said it was very good. Just tiny for the price.
