Please don't listen to the parents that complain about the policies. With young girls, they are a Godsend and very well thought-out to reduce drama and increase the time the instructors have to teach the girls, which is what they should be doing. I wish Lori started a consulting company and taught other organizations how to run a business smoothly because there are several other kids/teens activities we have been involved in that I have wished had her policies! After 10 years, I can tell you that Lori loves the girls and everything she does is for them first. Her own daughters went through the studio, so she knows what parents and kids want and she does everything possible to make that happen. The result for us has been a lot of great friends and great memories at events, competitions, Disneyland, a cruise, Europe, and charity performances everywhere. And still the kids have the ability to do other activities because Lori even works closely with the local high schools' dance, cheer, and leadership departments. Can't recommend Next Step enough! Regarding the auto-enroll policiy, don't complain. There are limited spots in a dance room, so say thank you to them for saving a spot for your kid. Most of Danville just leaves you to fend for yourself!

So now there's this Zumba craze and I've tried it out a few times and honestly I've been kind of ho hum about it. But for some reason when Amy teaches Zumba it's incredibly fun. I took her morning class at the Danville Grange and was expecting it to be a mellow class with some cute moves. I spent an hour jumping, grinding, gyrating, and dropping it to the floor to the sounds of Daft Punk and Trey Songz. It is an intense workout but you will love it. Everything on your body will hurt afterwards. Particularly your thighs, your bootie, and your arms. But hey that's why you're taking Zumba right? To make everything tight and cute? Well this will do it for ya. Amy is a great teacher and I will totally take her class again. She's got great positive energy, she shows the moves clearly to beginners like me, and her happiness is infectious. So do yourself a favor. Take her class. You'll be dead tired afterwards but you'll be happy.

She does a lot of her own choreography that works really well with the music she chooses, and it really does fit perfectly with the classic Zumba moves. She chooses a lot of different genres of music, including various latin types, reggaeton, hip hop, and basically whatever is trending or her students are looking to hear. She doesn't shy away from making us feel like we could star on Dirty Dancing or Honey ;) I have two toddlers, and as often as I can, I come to class and request a sitter, which Amy is great at accommodating for a low price. I even brought my 2.5 year-old the other day, and she had a ball dancing with me, instead of needing a sitter. It's a supportive and encouraging environment, and the class just keeps growing in that great big space! Most recently, Amy has been getting close to the end of a pregnancy, and she is still on fire as our instructor. We'll miss her when she's off for a bit, but can't wait until she gets back into it :)

Fast forward 7 years and now my other two daughters are enrolled as well. I have never seen someone do as much work as the owner Ashley. She is dedicated, and shows up for every dancer. We see the long hours, the care, and the patience. And we want her to know it never goes unnoticed. The teachers create a positive, welcoming environment where the girls feel supported and motivated. My daughters have not only improved on their techniques but have also built meaningful friendships and become much more confident. This studio goes above and beyond, and we're so grateful to be part of it.

We came to this dance school by word of mouth. And we are so glad that we had!…read more We took a 30-min private lesson ($35) to access which class would fit her best and tried the creative dance class! At Dance Connection Performing Arts Center in Concord, our 3.5 yo daughter was escorted a number of times out of her intro to ballet and tap class for 2.5 to 4 yo for "not listening." So we ditched that studio and tried this one! (But we did try a kinder teacher at DCPAC before leaving.) The Creative Dance class (single drop-in for $25, 10-class pack for $185) at The Ballet School is perfect for her, especially since she has a slow-to-warm-up temperament and is sensitive to loud sounds (ie. music, flushing toilets, leaf blowers, etc.). The value for these drop-in creative dance classes is excellent because we are willing to pay a few dollars more for our little one to have a positive experience with dance. Drop-in means that they are understanding that some days the littles aren't having a good enough day to join class and/or sick. (Btw, $45 one-time registration fee) Regarding the rest of the school, I can tell that there is a huge selection of classes including music. As a music teacher working at a music academy, I can't access the quality. However, I know there is a department near the entrance way. If you haven't tried this school, just know it supports Healthy Dance, and are a part of Dance Awareness: No Child Exploited. This was a huge factor of why we chose this school for our daughter.

We live in an age where many expect Elementary School students to were glitter and makeup, then dress up in costumes. The Ballet School does not go down that road. Instead, it teaches young ladies (and gentlemen) to respect themselves and each other with any performance only coming from that confidence. Just as an example, the younger performers do never "perform" in a "show." Instead, TBS has a yearly "demonstration," which is literally just that...the students wear the regular baller uniform and demonstrate what happens in class every day. I have always thought that that is an incredibly healthy approach . Suffice to say, I strongly suggest that parents check out this school when looking into a school for performing arts.
