This slice spot is definitely a "midtown 5" and is probably the best pizza you can get in north of 34th St. Spinach slice is a must get and i was pleasantly surprised by the grandma slice which I would get again as well. Also tried the pepperoni slice which was good, but I regretted not going for the vodka slice instead. For the young folk, they take the credit cards, which I hear is important. Don't plan on staying here though, there night be 4 chairs in the whole place and even if you get a seat, you're right up against people waiting to order or waiting for orders. read more

I was looking for a good local pizza spot to get a slice of pizza and came across this place on yelp! I got a slice of the spinach dip. Since they had just finished the prior pie I waited while they made a fresh one!! It didn't take too long. The slice was large and the spinach dip was so good and is definitely filling! At about $5.xx for a slice it's a little pricier than other places but this is a special pizza and it's so much better than a generic NYC pizza spot. The place is small; more to accommodate take outs and quick bites with about four seating. The people that worked there were super friendly and the owner told us the background on the DoughDici pizza. I'll for sure be going back for slices and also to try the DoughDici!! I have to say the owner is 100% full of himself as he like to say how all other local pizza is cardboard and not worth eating. Kind of like a BMW salesperson ripping into Audi. There is no need for that if you are really that good. America has plenty of room for multiple good spots, cars, pizza. Having said that, the pizza is great. The spinach pizza is their specialty and even with the large price tag, it is worth it. Delicious, made from scratch pizza. I came here last week and ordered a vodka pie partially topped with sausage and got to see the pizza being made on the spot - it took a little over 10 minutes but it was worth the wait. Plus, there are a couple high bar stool tables outside that fall in the shade for when you wait or if you want to eat at the restaurant. Definitely will be back! read more

Food tastes objectively good, but not up to the hype or it's price. Our over $30 spinach dip pizza was very very thin on cheese and smaller than regular pizza size. Have to ay that spinach was above average, but margarita is quite average. Best one was the meatball roll. read more

Okay, admittedly I am a pizza addict always in search of awesome pizza!! So, I had to try this place in my neighborhood. Granted, they do have really good pizza that rivals the best and even beats a lot of the others in the neighborhood. The owners are super friendly and welcoming and make it a pleasure to come in! However, when the owners are not in, the man they have managing the place is a real turn off. He is expressionless, monosyllabic, and has no people skills whatsoever. I got pizza tonight and not once (as usual) did he respond to anything I said. Despite numerous "thank you's" on my behalf, he couldn't be bothered to say you're welcome or thank you in response. There are other places to get pizza where you aren't treated with disrespect. I have literally walked up to the place and seen he is at the register and gone elsewhere because he is SOOOOOOO unpleasant. Just saying. Update 8/21/2017 Okay, so I have updated my rating to 5 Stars. Perhaps my review had some effect....but I went in this weekend and the the guy was super friendly, a complete 360. Walked almost 12 blocks to try the spinach pizza (had it bookmarked on my yelp about a month after walking by one day) . I came around 1 pm and a fresh pie just came out the oven so I got a slice for about 4$. Don't come here expecting Artichoke Basilles. This slice is a lot lighter and and delicate but just as good. In the Big Apple to place one of the offspring in school, so that means find some pizza. The big chains suck, and the big NY chains suck too. Found this little spot thanks to Yelp, and it did not disappoint. Typical NY small footprint. Both normal thin crust and dish varieties available. I ordered two original slices, pepperoni/Buffalo mozzarella and shaved sausage, and the SO had a mushroom slice and a deeper pan-style slice with what they called "cupped" (aka well cooked) pepperoni. It was really top-notch: crispy crust under the slices; tomato-forward sauce that wasn't too sweet or overly herbed; enough cheese to add salt and umami without turning the damned thing into a grilled cheese. Very well-balanced and executed. It was so good that we ordered a whole pie the next day. I had to carry it back to the hotel inside a trash bag liner because it was raining, but even that additional steam effect couldn't diminish this pizza. Hats off to Sofia for truly excellent culinary work. Support local gems like this one. Highly recommended. read more

My favorite pizza place! The slices are so good, as is their lasagna (which they say is one of their specialties)! The spinach artichoke pizza is way better than anything I've ever had (Artichoke's included); the chicken, pepperoni, margherita and plain are all phenomenal as well. I don't believe they deliver, or at least not to my apartment (10 blocks away), but this spot is well worth the walk (or train/cab ride)! The actual storefront is quite small; there are a few bar stools and could fit probably 4 comfortably. But perfect for a quick bite or to bring some pizza home. read more

Pizza was definitely old school NYC pizza. crust had just the right amount crunchiness and yet moist, sauce tasted like fresh tomato sauce and not the prepackaged stuff, and cheese was fresh mozzarella. price is not bad. i still prefer Mariella's on the west side because you can taste the natural tomato sweetness in the sauce. I came here for a slice the other night and ended up having 3. After looking for places near the hotel I saw this place which yelp highly regarded. I walk in an hour before close, owner is working the register, friendly dude. I can't decide between the vodka and the margherita so I end up getting both. Now look, I think prince st has the best pizza NY, but if this place doesn't top them it is certainly right along side them. Every single ingredient is top quality and no other place compares in my opinion. The guy is just passionate about pies and makes some of the best in the world. After I ate the two slices I couldn't leave without trying the spinach dip pizza, which I expected to be a bit soggy due to the cream sauce on it... nope, perfection like the others. My new favorite local pizza shop. I'm glad it opened up because now I have a shop that I actually look forward to going to. The shop is clean, modern and well taken care of my owners who seem to really care about their service and customers. The Margherita pizza is great with a thin bottom layer, not too much sauce and a crunchy dry crust that is perfectly sized to not be too dry when eaten with the rest of the pizza (I often find myself tossing the crust on most New York pizza). Do note the store is cash only. I don't normally carry cash with me but will go out of my way to get it when I'm craving a slice (or use the ATM inside). Definitely try it if you're in the area! I'll be hoping to try a different slice my next time and maybe one of their rolls and will update my review when I do! read more

First time at this pizza place right in Manhattan. We usually go to 33rd & 3rd for good pizza. I was really impressed with this place though. It's really tiny and only has about four seats. First, the pizza or the sauce lacked flavor; pretty bland if you ask me. Secondly, the dough was on the rough side, not just the bottom but all the way through each bite. I requested seasonings (red pepper flakes, oregano, etc). Guess what, nothing, just a plain ol' lackluster pizza. If anything the seasonings probably would've came in clutch. Portion size was enough to feed 3-4 people (9 slices). Price was fair considering the location in Manhattan. If I had to choose this location, I would try the regular slices instead. read more

Awesome pizza. Got a "classica" pizza (i.e. a "pizza"), half with olives. It was awesome. Did I say that already? My wife even told me to come to yelp and write a review. She picked up the pie, and said the guys at the shop ... ahem... shoppe were really nice and excited about their new digs. We are lucky because we live one block away. Sofia is our new go-to, hands down. Reviewer JD mentioned Bella Roma as a point of comparison and I agree with them. I'd already given BR 5 stars but Sofia is better. Not as sweet, better chew to the crust, and not as much pizza-y feeling after the meal. Maybe I just like pizza, I dunno. Their online menu doesn't have prices on it yet but the plain round pie is $21 to start. Prices go up depending on configuration (they do offer Sicilian too). Currently cash only. read more

Sofia's is a great find in Midtown East! I was walking by at lunch time today and wandered in to see what the pizza looked like. Boy dis it look delicious, so I got two square grandma slices (sauce on top of the cheese). They were $4 each. I probably could have eaten a third, but that would have been pushing the limits of my stomach at lunchtime. Boy were the slices tasty! The sauce tasted extremely fresh. It had whole chunks of tomatoes, some basil, and garlic in it. The cheese was subtle - if you are a cheese person, I'd recommend the regular cheese slice instead of the grandma. The dust was light and slightly crusty. It went great with the sauce. The most important part of any review: I will definitely be back, probably weekly. read more

They also use an odd convection oven at the front to save time/space, but which gives the re-heated pizza an unpleasant cracker like texture. $3 for a plain slice is highest price in hood, and $4 for a weak grandma (where's the garlic?) is as well. Excellent pizza! I had the margherita pizza with some added toppings. Nice big pizza and the toppings were fresh. The price is good, however the additional toppings are a bit pricey. But I am new to the NY pizza sceelne so not sure if that is a norm. I would recommend this place if you are staying around the UN plaza area. read more
