This office is totally unprofessional. Security guards will not let you in if you do not have appointment which is not the protocol of the Social Security office as it posted on the website and agents have professed. They are rude uncooperative the agents are nice when you get to them, but they fool around way too much when you call the Social Security line you can never get through People say they'll transfer you to a department and it disconnects to the main number. Horrible horrible customer service. read more

These guys love to say we are FEDERAL to support their massive ego trips and posturing but this is one of the single worst and most disorganized offices I have seen. They provide good services but not good with calls...one usually has to wait 50minutes before sm1 gets to the line. Between that time frame one waits for 15minutes then you get an automated message saying to call back at a later time as they are still assisting other members...n sure enough you dont get the help you need while waiting to be served. I would rather wait than them dropping that call n waiting since it would interupt and have other callers calling at the same time too. I've waited for my ticket to be called and consistently checked the screen. the next time I checked my number was on the screen but it wasn't called. I got up just to see that there was still a person there then the next person went but my number was still with them and not called. I checked with the lady but she said she called it 3 times. It was somewhat quiet in the lobby so I would've heard it, yet she claimed she did while helping someone whose number wasn't called (twice). just like everyone else, i have work, but in the Army you can only be gone for so long. I had read that some offices might be doing in person meetings by appointment. When I called to make an appointment I was told only non-citizens are allowed in person meetings, to make sure they can get any documents needed so they can't be picked up as an illegal. This place is hit or miss. On the phone I often feel like the folks are annoyed that I called. The last couple people who helped me though were awesome. In person I got someone pleasant. The guards are friendly and the place was clean. The main complaint I have is the heat and the smell. The waiting room is small. When it fills up it gets really hot. Of course with covid, like anything, there was less then perfect service! Although, i do expect to talk to someone when i do call. Which often times i did not. My husband called several times as well and emailed and got NO reply. We have sent in several appeals for a claim that was made while my husband was a minor. They also took our whole tax return which was $7111 and they only applied $3k on my account. So where did the rest of my money go? Not only have i not gotten answers when we were on the phone they were very rude to us and wouldn't explain anything. A lot of the reps even said "i don't know" when i asked them ANYTHING. I'm not paying $27,000 that someone else applied for when my husband was a minor now that he's 25. ESPECIALLY if they can't give me an answer! Plus we've asked for appointments and they denied us appointments. My appeals apparently never got to their office when i went to the office they wouldn't let me turn it in because i didn't have an appointment. The several i sent in the mail apparently never got there. And the ones i tried to file over the phone was denied because they wouldn't allow me to. Obviously with corona going on service was moved to the phones. Spoke to a representative and her tone of voice was very snarky and inconsiderate. When I told her to stop being rude because obviously what I was calling for was important as it's literally crucial to fix she told me "to hold my horses". And refused to transfer me or put me on hold so that I may speak to someone else. You would think if someone is possibly reporting some type of social security fraud the workers they hire would be at least a little more considerate. I was reinstating my Medicare after leaving my job. I submitted the paper work to the Tacoma Office-per instructions from the office in Maryland. I received a phone call from the Tacoma office and the women told me that I did not qualify for SEP (special enrollment Period). Call Regional office in San Diego and was told that of course I qualify-just take all my paperwork to Tacoma office. Show additional info from former employer and I will be good to go. Different person in Tacoma office comes up with same result after conversation with first lady. My Insurance broker made some calls to people in the know and I was instructed to go to Puyallup or Kent Wa Office. I was in and out of the Puyallup office in a half an hour with the approval. The Tacoma office did not read any of my paperwork and processed my claim incorrectly. Don't go to Tacoma office on So 47th St. I am sure that their are some good employees in the office, but I never met them. read more

I not sure why everyone has hated on this particular Social Security office. Yes, it's a government agency that we all hate going to. This location was clean and didn't smell like spoiled milk or disinfectant that so many Social Security offices waft of. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and I was only there for about 30 minutes. I needed to get a replacement card, so very low difficulty level involved. They provided the form I needed at the front of the waiting area; I tried printing it off the website at home, but my printer ran out of ink in the middle of the job. It is hard to tell from the road that the building is a Social Security office. You do have to park on the side of the building and walk around, which seems pretty cumbersome for folks with disabilities. It is a small parking lot, but I had no issues getting in or out of it with my vehicle. There is a bus stop right in front of the building and it has a nice flat walk way with wide door openings and hallways. read more

I was genuinely pleased with the overall service I received at this office! The scanning upon my entering the office was done efficiently, professionally and with a smile and greeting by the staff. I was given thorough instruciton on how to sign in - this was my first visit there. I had an appointment so my wait time was nominal. When I was directed to the '## window in the back' I was a little lost but a quick thinking staff member pointed me in the right direction. The clerk who assisted me was very personable and efficient; explained every form she was filling out and why and what to expect in the near future regarding receiving benefits for my grandson whose mother had passed away unexpectedly. The clerk was not robtic or impersonal; when I cried a bit about my daughter's death, she was very sympathetic. I was grateful for the personal touch. With my appt ahead of time, i was on done with the 'business at hand' and on my way back to work in just a short time amount of time.
