Terribly long lines. No one answers phones. Expect to spend 4+ hours in line even if you show up first thing in the morning. This place is a disaster. Also, apparently there are scams (see photo).

my first time I went to that place it's was a shame. I took a number and I was waiting for more than 1 hour when they called my number I when to the window she said she didn't call me and took a white woman in my place and ask me I llost my place I have to take the ligne again. the management of the place are racisme. if a black people want go gent a social security number go to a other location.

My ticket number. Note the time. I went in at 2:45 PM and was out by 2:53 PM

I went in today to request a social security card replacement. After reading reviews on Yelp and Google I decided to print out the application online and was mentally prepared to wait the hour or so as other reviewers had mentioned. I arrived around 2:40 PM today and to my surprise the parking lot was pretty empty, there were no lines of people waiting out the door and there were plenty of seats available in the waiting room. Since it was my first time there, I appreciated that the security guard helped explain the process of getting the ticket from its only kiosk. When I sat down I noticed that there were only 2 people ahead of me. The rep that helped me process my application was so nice and made it all such a breeze. Boy did I get lucky!! I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. The only downside is, that I have to wait about 2 weeks to get my replacement card in the mail.

Facility~ 5 Stars Dickhead OPD that arrested me~ 0 Stars…read more I spent a relaxing night here a few years ago for allegedly violating article VIII section 18-411 Code 1986, 94.01 of the city ordinance, better known as "off premises canvassing". A local night club hired us to pass out free drink passes but failed to mention the law preventing it. The officer wanted to make an example out of me to show the club owners they wanted the fliering to stop. I was given no warning. It was my first (and perhaps last) time in a place of incarceration, and I must say that I was rather pleasantly surprised with the experience given the circumstances. My memory is a bit hazy--you'll have to excuse me as this was quite a few years ago. The facility was newly built, in a concrete-metal style that is elegant in its spareness and utility. It is, however, lacking in a certain fluidity. My particular cell was absolutely spic and span. A polished concrete floor and stainless steel fixtures complemented a minimal, Japanese-inspired interior. In keeping with its status as a public facility, individual dwellings were completely sealed from each other with little flow or openness betwixt them. A rolled up mat normally provides an additional level of comfort to the metal bunks lined nicely up against the walls. Staff was generally efficient and friendly. My fellow detainee's had lovely words of encouragement as this was not their first offence. A new, soft gray blanket provided much needed warmth during the morning chill. Unfortunately, I was not able to turn off the fluorescent lights at my discretion. This, however, did nothing to disturb my inability to sleep because I was still in shock from the arrest . If I were to suggest one area of improvement--the food was severely lacking. In the morning, I was given a tray containing a carton of low fat milk, generic brand cereal, mushy grits and 2 slices of white bread. While the cereal was satisfying (the milk, in particular, was very refreshing for a very parched throat), the grits were inedible. The two slices of white bread, I later learned come with every meal. 42 pieces a week in fact. With all the fresh produce that is locally available in Orlando, I felt it would represent the city better if these were available to the facility's temporary dwellers.

My experience with Orange County Jail has been extremely negative. Many of the officers who control…read moreinmate movement and meal times appear to abuse their authority and treat inmates harshly. They often yell at and disrespect inmates instead of handling situations with professionalism. The meal schedule is also very irregular and inhumane. For example, breakfast is served around 6 a.m., but lunch may not be served until 5 p.m., and dinner as late as 8 p.m. This goes against the standard meal schedule that inmates should receive. In addition, I've encountered serious unprofessional behavior from staff, including being hung up on when calling administrative offices and receiving rude or dismissive treatment when trying to ask about inmate services. The people who work here are truly miserable and it'd be nice if there were some people who actually have empathy and patience to work here. There also seems to be a lack of fairness and transparency in how certain processes are handled -- for example, requests related to marriage or paperwork are denied for questionable reasons, such as claims about missing immigration stamps that have nothing to do with the marriage process. On top of that, they are very disorganized and you will get different information depending on who you ask. All the staff is NOT on the same page. Corporal Tinsley is an inconsiderate power hungry individual who is racist and not willing to accommodate or help out certain individuals with unique circumstances. Overall, the system feels broken, unaccountable, and deeply unprofessional. Orange County Jail needs oversight, accountability, and proper staff training to ensure inmates and their loved ones are treated with basic dignity and respect.

It raises awareness of Florida's cultural history while enhancing the enjoyment of historic sites for residents and tourists. The blue historic markers tell the stories of the people and places that were important to Florida's history and they can be found in front of churches, schools, roads, archaeological sites, battlefields, cemeteries, historic buildings, and where forts once existed like this one. Historic marker F-483 was installed at the intersection of Gatlin Avenue and South Summerlin Avenue in 2003 by the Fort Gatlin Historical Group, Orange County Public Schools, Orange County Government and The Florida Department of State. This is a Florida Heritage Site. The marker provides information about Fort Gatlin which was the site of a fort during the Second Seminole War (1835-1842). When the government enacted the Indian Removal Act in 1830, the army was sent to drive all of the Native Americans out west on the Trail of Tears. The Seminoles resisted and the Second Seminole War broke out. Forts like this one were set up all across Florida to aid the US Army in their mission. The Seminole were the only tribe to never sign a peace treaty with the US Government. Fort Gatlin was established by the U.S. Army in November 1838 in what is now known as Orange County but at the time it vhad the less appealing name of Mosquito County. The fort was built by Lieutenant Colonel Alexander C.W. Fanning and four companies of the 4th U.S. Artillery. It was one of a string of forts built across Central Florida. Fort Gatlin was named in honor of Army Assistant Surgeon John S. Gatlin, who was killed in the Dade Massacre in 1835. The site for the fort was chosen because of its strategic location on a hill overlooking three lakes. This area was frequented by a tribe of Seminoles led by Chief King Philip and his son Coacoochee. Fort Gatlin was a simple stockade made with long posts anchored into ground with cross bars and heavy gates. The courtyard held a storehouse, mobile cannons, and a powder magazine. Fanning completed the fort and left. After that it was occupied by a company of troops under the command of 1st Lieutenant F.E. Hunt. The fort was reportedly attacked several times by the Seminole, who were attempting to regain their position. The fort was deactivated on July 1839 but was re-garrisoned briefly in October 1849 during an uprising of Seminole in Southern Florida. After the forts in Florida were abandoned, many gave rise to towns. Once Fort Gatlin closed a few soldiers and families remained in the area, growing citrus and raising cattle, and the town of Fort Gatlin was formed. In 1856, the town became the county seat of Orange County, which was created from Mosquito County in 1845. The community s name was later changed to Orlando in honor of militiaman Orlando Reeves, who was killed in battle during the Second Seminole War. Reeves is believed to buried somewhere in the site of the former Fort Gatlin. In 1941, during World War II, the United States Navy established the Underwater Sound Reference Laboratory near this site on Lake Gem Mary which was very deep. The lab closed in 1997. The Fort Gatlin Historical Group was founded by area residents to locate and preserve the heritage and historical features of Fort Gatlin. Some of the items found over the years include Seminole war era bottles, buttons, musket balls, and cannon balls. Until the 1920's, remnants of Fort Gatlin were visible to area residents. One other thing to note is that in addition to the historic marker there is also a large wooden sign with even more information about the Native American history in the area, more in depth information on Fort Gatlin and the Second Seminole War, Fort Gatlin's early settlers, the Naval Research Lab, and Fort Gatlin archaeology. There were also smaller signs providing information about the different plants in the area. Although the fort no longer exists, there is so much great information in this area that it is well worth a stop for anyone who would like to learn more about Orlando's earliest days. If you would like to see what a Seminole War era fort would have actually looked like, there is a great example of a replica of one from 1837 that you can visit at Fort Christmas Historical Park, in Christmas Florida.
