This experience was so much better than getting your driver's license or passport in person. First, they were pretty close to keeping on schedule. I think they were about 15, 20 minutes behind. Note, it's by appointment only, and they book several weeks out. (The Tampa office is months.) The office is located across from the food court on level 3, but don't be tempted to venture too far. They have a very small sitting area (for about 5 people). If bringing your children for interview make sure they use the restroom before checking in. We were called shortly after checking in. So, I found out about this program when it became clear I would not always fly Delta and could not therefore use the TSA pre check line while flying other airlines. So, research led me to the global entry program. With a known traveler number, and when flying a participating TSA pre check airline, you should be able to use TSA precheck lane. TSA precheck lane is shorter, and there is no need to remove shoes, coats, or take anything out of your bag; understand how this makes life easier!! In addition, if arriving from international flight, you can check yourself in using a kiosk instead of doing the traditional arrival. Currently 20 USA airports have a global entry kiosk. ATL, MCO being the most relevant to me at this time, do participate. According to the literature I received at the office, you can even declare goods at the kiosk, or use the traditional processing lanes. Currently the cost is $100 to join, and you will need to have an interview, fingerprint and photo taken. The office I visited is at Orlando airport, and you must make appointment online. Approval was very fast once I started everything. After I was approved, I simply added my known traveler number while booking my flight, and was allowed to use the pre check lane. I also received a global entry card in the mail for verification. Now, it is important to look at your boarding pass. It will say TSA Precheck on it if you can use the line. The logo also shows up if you are using your phone as a boarding pass. Keep in mind, airlines not participating at this time, such as Southwest, will not allow you this privilege. I have had no issues with flying Delta and United using this program. The office is located near lost and found on the B side. I think the program is super, it just seems not to be known by many frequent travelers. The only reason I found out is just being persistent in researching. It is kind of confusing, but felt it worth my time to sort it out. With currently more than 100 airports participating in TSA precheck, paying $100 for five years is a no brainer for a frequent traveler. CLEAR currently costs $179 per year and is currently only expecting to be in 9 airports end of year. I was a CLEAR member prior to the bankruptcy and reopening, and it was convenient, however since they have reopened they have not gained the number of airports to make it worth it. . . And now I have global entry and TSA precheck that was not available to me before, so this works out much better! read more

I expected the interview to take forever and include an annoying line like you encounter at the DMV. But no! I was called in before my appointment time, and in and out in ten minutes! The officers were nice too, they even show you how to use the global entry kiosk. read more

I just had my appointment and they were only running 10min behind schedule. My CBP officer was very friendly and professional. She asked why I needed Global Entry, scanned my passport and Visa, checked my driver license, confirmed my address, employer, email and phone number and asked about why I traveled to certain countries and how long I stayed. All in all it took about 10 minutes. The place is very easy to find (level 3 opposite of the lost and found). Be on time and sign in at the clipboard. They will call your name when you are up. They refuse any "walk ins" - you must have an appointment. read more

The officer took me back about 10 minutes early and had my appointment finished within 10 minutes. I received the notification that I was approved about 2 hours later. Extremely efficient operation! I parked in the Terminal B garage and pulled out of the garage 30 minutes later. I highly recommend getting the TTP done at Orlando Airport (MCO). read more

Here is how we went from completed online application to completed face-to-face interview at Tampa airport in three weeks: once you get an appointment for the interview, keep checking the website for earlier interview slots that open up because others cancel/reschedule. In two days of checking, we cut the interview wait time from four months to four days. Waiting all morning or all day for a walk-in slot seems like a total pain by comparison. After the face-to-face interview, they mail you your GOES card in a week or two. read more
