After assisting me with the final touches to my 256+ page packet she then sought supervision. She didn't challenge information I relayed from the central office either. Her supervisor could've easily allowed her to do this by herself but while Miss Robinson was assisting me her supervisor jumped in to ensure my original copies were given back to me and that my application was focused on by Miss Robinson, who did not have to worry about being tasked with the other parts. Commitment Beyond Duty: Both Ms. Robinson and her supervisor stayed well past the 4:00 PM closing time to ensure my application was complete. I left around 445 so I know they stayed longer. The cleaning company cleaned around me. The supervisor's direct involvement demonstrated a level of teamwork and dedication that is unfortunately rare. I've been going through this for a long time and part of the reason my documentation was so extensive is that I've had to be the judge and the jury to protect myself when other systems can't. She reviewed each document and even said that I had more than she had seen before. She shared her own experiences and normalized what I felt. Most importantly when she said she wasn't judging me, I believed her. I believed that she believed me- all I needed was for my application to be sent where it needed to be. She did just that and more with no prompt. Safety and Respect: For survivors of domestic violence and cyberstalking, being believed is often the hardest part of the journey. Ms. Robinson ensured I left feeling heard, seen, and protected, rather than defeated. This case is so complex that if I was her I'd feel overwhelmed too (and it's my life). The security staff on duty also deserves mention for maintaining a professional and supportive environment during the after-hours completion of my filing. When they did not let anybody else sign-in, I grew anxious and felt bad I was making people stay longer to help. He made sure nobody bothered me and kept an eye on me in the empty cubicle across the room. Ms. Robinson possesses a rare combination of high-level administrative competence and profound emotional intelligence. She is an asset to the Social Security Administration and should be strongly considered for a senior or leadership role. She facilitated a complex federal process with a level of grace that put previous experiences at Manhattan to shame. Even though my application was finalized so late on Friday she gave me a receipt and clearly stated she hadn't yet submitted it to the central office yet. but, for the first time I wasn't worried- it'll make its way in her hands. We need unfavorable encounters to recognize the good ones. Please ensure this commendation is added to the personnel files of Ms. Robinson and her supervisor. People in their positions often only hear from the public when there is a complaint; it is vital that they are recognized when they provide exemplary, life-changing service. I was there for 3 hours with an appointment. A lady filling in for the original front desk clerk (on lunch break) was very unprofessional and disrespectful. I asked whether it was normal to wait 2 hours without my number being called. The response I received was that the office had been closed for two days. If I couldn't wait, I should make a new appointment. Her attitude was that she really didn't give a damn how long I waited. Finally, the original clerk returned, and I told her what had happened. She checked her computer for my number 956 and said it had been called. She resubmitted the number to be recalled. She redirected my seating to 3 rows across from her. After sitting there for almost 30 minutes, she suggested I tell the clerk at window 13, whom she had sent me to, that my number had never been called. read more

The security guards and the black woman at the front desk are extremely rude. It was my first time there and this lady was nasty and rude for no reason, she said "You don't follow instructions!", as if I should know how the process or how things exactly work as if I'd been working there like her for years. This is why certain people are in certain types of jobs, she'll be in that job forever. The positive side was that the process was quick because they have 30 windows. The people actually handling the applications are nicer and more educated than the security guard and the black woman at the front desk. today me and my daughters came to social security administration of Brooklyn located at 154 prospect because at CAMBA we were told that in this place we won't have to make appointments and that we can just walk in but when we reached there , there was a lady who was a security guard . it happened around 3pm that at first she wouldn't let us in and moreover she shouted and disrespected us and wouldn't allow us to speak a word and shouted us to leave as if we were an intruder or something .She woudnt let us a speak a word and disrespected us . I went to this office with my dad for ssn replacement today, the experience left me feeling disrespected, mistreated, and upset. Upon arrival at the SSA office, a staff member told us that we would need an appointment to proceed with our request. Although I explained I already submitted an application online, and both the SSA website and Google didn't mention we needed an appointment to provide documents, the staff member insisted that we needed one. I understood the instructions and we planned to leave to schedule the appointment. As we were waiting for the elevator to exit the building, a security officer approached me and asked if I could help translate for someone who didn't speak English, which I agreed to do. During this time, I also tried calling the SSA office to see if we could schedule the appointment for the same day since we were already at the office. After about 8-9 minutes, the same staff member who had initially spoken to us came out and began yelling at me, telling me that I couldn't make a phone call in the building and that I needed to leave immediately. I tried to explain I was still there because I just assisted someone with translation, we were about to leave, but she cut me off, saying that the office had its translators and didn't need my help. She insisted that my father and I leave the building, even though we were not the only ones waiting in the landing area at the time, others were standing in the same spot and were not asked to leave. Her behavior was unprofessional, and I felt singled out and unfairly treated. When I asked for her name and why she was speaking to me so aggressively. She claimed I was "yelling at her," but I was calm throughout the entire interaction. It was she who was raising her voice and speaking to me with disrespect. I was so upset by her attitude that I couldn't even remember her name, though I recall it sounded like "Melinda."  She said she is a supervisor in this office.  I felt humiliated and hurt by how I was treated. It's difficult for me to understand why she chose to treat me and my father in such a manner. This experience has left me deeply distressed. I felt that I was being treated unfairly simply for trying to assist someone in need, and I questioned whether there was a personal or racial bias in the way I was treated. As I left the office, I felt defeated and upset and even cried when I later called the customer service number to schedule the appointment. I54 Pierrepont Street office window 25 on February 29th, 2024, young very pretty black girl, I honestly forgot her name but want to compliment her on her professionalism and kindness. She helped us very quickly, I was in and out in 15 minutes. Mind-blowing never seen anything like it. I was there to show ID for the application of a replacement social security card for my 85-year-old mother. This place is clean and courteous. Very easy process. Needed to update my info since i became a citizen and get a new SS card. Got there at 9:30AM, you don't need an appointment just walk in. They have a big waiting room and lots of windows. There was no lines, I checked in, got my number and filed my application. Online and on the physical doors to the social security building, it clearly states that the office opens at 0700. I got here at 0700 to only find out it doesn't open until 0900 and there's already a line formed outside... The office does not open until 0900!!! The website and doors need to be updated ASAP. If you're here for a new card, go straight to the sixth floor. You don't need to wait outside on that long ass line forever and for no reason... you're welcome. read more

154 Pierpont str 03/23/23 window 27 3.30 pm (Young Black Lady). I went to office to get non work ssn by reason it's needed to application for snap and assistance to complete application. I showed her proof as a signed letter from head resources office for asking ssn strongly to this reason. In US I've changed a status from tourist to asylum seeker. I've showed her on a desk proof of status from uscis, id's, passport, application form. She doesn't take a look for my papers, exclude i94 and finally told me " by the way you are tourist and you have no chance to getting ssn, and after you win asylum you can ssn". I'm tried explain to her doesn't tell the truth,  pleased double check my case with senior person. She snapped to me emotional and angry, woke up from chair, come back less 1 minute and repeat me "you are tourist, you cant ask ssn now". After that she gave me a denial letter without her name with words: "you didn't show proof of benefits documents" "asylee can ask working authorization" - before it stupid person denial this in conversation (probably she doesn't know or dont want to know ho laws are working in connection with immigrants and social security system.) She showed itself very rude and unprofessional person who doesn't deserve this working place. Bullshit((( I'm looking for ombudsman or lawyer to file claim on this person at this story! Now I understand why people felt the need to review a govt office. The efficiently streamlined system of this office and the employees there deserve a standing ovation. On the sixth floor, you enter and wait in a short line for one computer terminal kiosk where you enter your numbers and also what you're here for and it generates a ticket number. There is staff that helps you at the kiosk. Then you wait for your turn, the ticket number is displayed on a tv screen. I was there at 9:30am on a Thursday, got my ticket within minutes, assigned to a deskperson by 9:40am and out by 9:45am. read more

11/7/2022 at 1:50pm - needed to get a replacement card. was told after calling the 1-800 number that at this office no appointments can be made. walk in only. line was out the office door to the elevators. after standing on line for about 20 minutes, a male guard can be heard yelling at people near the door. you need a mask to enter. and they don't give them out anymore. i'm saving you some headaches: WEAR/BRING A MASK. once you enter the main door - you will be directed by a female guard, who may or may not treat you like a toddler - to "sign in" on a digital screen. she will ask you if you have "a number". she doesn't mean a phone number or a ticket number, or a reference number for the documents you may have submitted online. she means social security number. so don't get it twisted. the check-in screen asks a few basic questions, and spits out a ticket with a number on it. a ticket number, not your social security number. go sit down immediately and make sure you are wearing your mask correctly or you will be yelled at. pick a seat far across from this lady, because you will not hear any numbers called. BRING A PEN because the guard at the front may or may not have one, depending if she yelled enough to encourage people to bring them back. the two office pens aren't sanitized, so bring your own sanitizer too. did you submit your forms online already? too bad! you will have to fill out new ones "because". then get ready to test both your eyesight and your hearing. you will be looking at a monitor that shows the ticket numbers and the window to go to. there is also a PA system where individual workers call out ticket numbers and window numbers. some microphones are more clear than others. but stay sharp and crowdsource if you can - the announcements on the PA system and the monitors are out of sync. someone is calling ticket Z234 at window 7, but the monitor says window 21. and if you are like me, you get a number that doesn't begin with a Z. instead - it's just a 3 digit number. with no explanation - these 3 digit numbers do not appear on the monitors! no, they are only called over the PA. so....hope you heard what window to go to! they might call it again 4 minutes later, if you're lucky. when my number was called, the gentleman who helped me was pleasant, straightforward, and my meeting concluded in under 5 minutes. he gets all the yelp stars. just 4 days ago i was at the DMV on atlantic ave. can you imagine that the DMV was not only better, it was a really pleasant experience? in summary - manage your expectations. 154 Pierrepont is overdue a technology makeover. guards need to be trained in interfacing with the public in a multilingual city. if english is not your first language, try to bring a human translator with you to navigate the disconnect between the monitors and the announcements. may the odds be ever in your favor. read more

Are they actually "taking steps to protect staff and the public during the COVID-19 pandemic" or just really bad at any sort of efficient operation? Got here at 11:45 on a Friday afternoon, was out within 30-45 minutes. Not too shabby, considering I walked in and this office only processes social security card applications and not the benefits, etc. They have about 30 windows, and they go pretty fast. I didn't have that much trouble getting in and out, and I even lost my previous application, so I got a new one to fill out and it wasn't that bad. Check in is through a kiosk, so if you know your social security number and are here to change name, DOB, etc. or grab a new one or a replacement, you should be fine. Lots of space, you only have 3 chances to have your name called before they miss your number. So, I can't complain. read more

I came in here in a Thursday at noon... Before you come into this place, read the signs! There is only 1 elevator to get to the 6th floor. Don't be like me and go into 4 elevators and ask 2 different people who have no idea what's going on. It's the first elevator on the left side after you get to the lobby. Once inside, you'll get your bag checked and then grab a number. If possible, fill out whatever paperwork you need to before you come in. If you don't get a chance to, no worries. They have the necessary papers available. I waited for about 10-15 min and was called to a teller. The woman who helped me was pleasant and helpful. We finished up in about 5 min and I was out of there. Totally efficient! read more

They are quite quick! No one wants to stay here long so their "customers" come here out of necessity, probably dreading it as much as I did. Hmmmm...they must have well-trained and efficient workers. When you enter, they check your bag, find out what you are here for and check you in electronically giving you a ticket. When they call your ticket, you go to the window and meet with a worker. Yes, this is standard and expected. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the workers calling out the numbers like rappers tag teaming in a rap song "brrrrrr, brrrrrr, brrrrrr" I thought to myself, "That's wassup! I won't be here long." (grinning on the inside) The seating area has plenty of seats, it's clean and nothing unpleasant is in there like funny smells or too cold/too hot--the temperature is just right. read more

I'm with everyone else. Get there early, leave early. I arrived at 7:11 and was seen about 2 minutes later. It was pretty easy. I just needed a replacement card and already had my form filled out. It was really fast and easy. Security wasn't too crazy, they were too busy eating to really "check" my bag. The room was clean (and empty!) Oh, and you can also enter the SS office on Montague Street, it saves you the block walk. Pluses- get there around 7 a.m. and you'll be done around 7:10 Minuses - nothing else is open, so you'll have to wait at Mc Donalds or Starbucks if you want to run several errands. read more

In and out in 10 minutes, literally. Don't want to go at 7am? 10am on a Friday: no wait, no problem. I needed a new SSN card with my married name, and assumed needing to go to a government office equated to needing to leave work early. I'm glad I checked Yelp reviews (which are accurate), and decided to chance it on a work break mid-morning instead. I left my office at 10:20am, walked over and checked into the Social Security Administration check-in booth at 10:24, sat for less than 30 seconds after receiving my ticket and walked out of the office doors at 10:34. Not sure how they manage operations here, but whatever they're doing works fantastically. **I had my paperwork filled out and documentation ready: if you don't, itll likely take you longer to fill the forms there then it will for them to help you!** New cards will be received via mail within 2 weeks. Looks like your average government office inside, but it's very clean and well organized. Security guard and the lady who assisted me were friendly. I appreciated the way the windows were structured to provide privacy and security at the same. They have at least 38 service windows, most weren't being used. There were two individuals in the seating area when I arrived, so there was no line. read more

Getting last name change (due to marriage) Was a BREEZE!!! Walked into office on 6th floor- took a ticket. Literally 3 minutes later, my number was called Went to window, gave them form (filled out) along with marriage certificate, social security card and 5 minutes later wAs DONE! Can't believe I'm giving this place 5 stars when I expected it to be a nightmare. Should have trusted the other positive reviews! Went for a name change (recently married), at 7:50 am on a Thursday and was out before 8:00! I filled out the form at home and brought it along with my old SS card and marriage license. The place was really big (about 30 windows), and only 2 other patrons waiting. I don't know what their hours are everyday- there is a lot of conflicting info out there- but I believe they're open at 7 am at least on most weekdays (maybe not Wednesdays, though? I think hours on that day are limited). The clerk was friendly and congratulated me on my recent wedding and wished me a great day. What a breeze! read more

I don't know. The reviews here are fantastic and it's puzzling me a lot. I came here at 9:45 AM and ended up waiting until 3:50 to get serviced. That's like 6 hours of sitting with nothing to do and no one to ask what's going on. There are no outlets anywhere cause supposedly you're not allowed to use your cellphone. When I got called, I got to the window for 10 minutes then was finished. It took me a 6 hour wait for 10 minutes of window time.... what?! There are over 30 windows but less than half are being utilized. Whilst waiting from 12-2 I swear there were only 2 windows opened and I did a rough head count and there were over 140 people waiting to be serviced. I truly do not understand the way they organize tickets and when asked, the security guard said the appointment does not guarantees quick service. What's the point of an appointment then?! Also their automatic voicemail, yelp page, business page, claims their hours start at 9 AM which is untrue. They open from 7 AM to 5 PM. The only thing good about this place is that it's clean (because you're not allowed to bring any food in...)and the security guards are nice. Every time I think I'm becoming a grown-up I go and do something totally irresponsible and stupid, like let all my forms of identification expire and lose my Social Security card. As it turns out, going to Mexico when you don't technically exist is kind of difficult (you'd think otherwise, no?), so this week I'm setting out to reclaim proof of my US citizenship. First stop, new SS card at the SS Administration office in lovely downtown Brooklyn. I walk in yesterday afternoon and am floored to see over a hundred people waiting in line. How can all these people need a new SS card? Today??? I sigh and take my place behind what seems like EVERY BROOKLYN RESIDENT EVER. After a few minutes of commiserating with my line-neighbors, the security guard leans over and tells us in a hushed, conspiratorial tone, "You know, you're looking at a 3-4 hour wait here, because this is just the line to get upstairs, where you'll still have to wait. If you come in at 7 in the morning you'll get in, do your business, and leave, no problem" 3-4 hours???? ANOTHER line? There is no way in hell I'm staying for this, so I bolt. This morning, I'm up at the crack of dawn and head to the office to "do my business", and while there is still a little wait (and some minor freaking out as I explain to the scary lady who holds my life in her hands why all my IDs are expired), I got out of there by 8, new card in processing.
