Excellent experience, except for the derelict who smelled like a day old booze binge, but that wasn't their fault. I had to come here to change my name because I got married. I looked online and downloaded the form. I had it all filled out before I got there. I called to try and make an appointment, but the nice gentleman on the line told me they don't make appointments. Oh well. I decided to go on my lunch break and chance it. I get there to find one metered spot right out front. They have a lot in back, but this spot is right outside the door and, frankly, I'm just lazy. The meter is flashing "FAIL". I took a walk to see the other meters. They all flashed the same. Sweet! Free parking. No. This is not Monopoly, it's my lucky day! I walked in and the security guard directed me to the self-check in kiosk in the back. I took a number and was third in line at window #10. The lady took my info and told me to wait by window #1. I sat there for a while. After 45 minutes, I was getting nervous that I would be late returning back from my lunch break, so as I prepared to walk out, they called my name. One signature and the confirmation of my info took 5 minutes, got my receipt and I was out the door. The lady was very nice for a state-run facility. The office is clean and everyone is very helpful. Thank you, SSA for making my visit pleasant! read more

I am amazed that some people actually gave this place a good review. I've been dealing with this office for about seven years as a payee for a relative. I have been absolutely perfect doing my part to keep them informed about everything, but they keep coming up with weird problems that they can't seem to fix. They keep making me come back but they never resolve anything. I always leave with an appeal form to fill out. Example: For some unknown reason they decided that my relative was overpaid about $6,000 and have reduced her check each month to get it back. There was no reason for this, so I keep going there to fix it. No one can tell me why they think she owes money. The paperwork says I have the right to request a printout of everything. I requested this at least three times and have only received the same appeal form that the representatives ALWAYS give me. I have yet to see the documentation I need to address. Another example: I make appointments to see a specific person, check in through the kiosk, but my name doesn't get called. I wait an hour and then start to think there is a problem. Finally, I find out that I never had an appointment, according to them. Had I walked in without an appointment, I wouldn't have done any worse. The thing is, this has happened more than one. Okay, one more: I have waited over an hour even though I have an appointment. Watching out for the meter, I ask how much longer. Don't ya know -- the representative went to lunch and no one knows when she will be back. I don't know if this is evil or just terribly rude. Hint: Avoid making appointments around lunch time because the people there think their time is important and everyone else is there for a handout. Also be warned that there is no parking to speak of. There are a small number of parking spaces for handicapped drivers, but usually none are available. You have to look for metered parking in the neighborhood. This isn't so much a problem for me, but any people at the Social Security Office look like they just can't walk too far. read more

The amazing gentleman in window 16 made my process so easy. He was so nice, courteous, kind and amazing. He literally made me feel so relaxed and like life is beautiful. The world needs more individuals like him. Also the security personnel at the door were nice and sweet. I was tense going in to get my stuff done, but they just made it so easy. God bless them! Can't thank the gentleman in window 16 enough! I was there on July 15th at 2pm. read more

Just wow. When I moved to the US I kept hearing all of those horrible stories about having to go to the Social Security office. So I took a day off from work and was planning on spending the entire day there. I got there shortly after they opened without an appointment. Both times I had to wait no longer than 15 minutes tops before they called me to the window. They took care of my issues super quickly and I was in and out before 30 minutes were up. Of course they will check your bags as they do at every government business but the guards are friendly and very helpful. read more

To my surprise, this office visit went rather smoothly. I had to accompany my mother-in-law so she could take care of business. My biggest concern was parking. Usually if I have to parallel park, I give up and just leave. Unfortunately giving up was not an option this time. To my disbelief, plentiful parking!!!! Pulled right in and fed the meter. Adding to my disbelief, there weren't many people waiting--maybe about 10 people. We were called up to the window pretty quickly! Only gripe was that the gentleman helping me wouldn't get my mother in law a korean interpreter. He asked me to translate; I told him I don't speak korean. He then asked me if I could just ask her if the address on her ID is correct. YOU NO SPEAK ENGRISH?? I don't speak korean! I made something up, my mother in law nodded, and he gave us what we needed. read more

Had a good experience here. No comparison to DMV. I came in during rush hour and had to wait 40minutes... which is fine. I didn't have an appointment. The lady behind the desk was very friendly and I got exactly what I came in for. The only problem I see is that there could be more windows/desks opened. They have 27 windows and only 4-5 were opened when I was there. That would speed up the process. The self check in can be a little confusing, too. I saw some people struggling and there wasn't anyone around to help. Other than that. For a government facility, it's great. Parking lot is in the back. read more

I recommend to make an appointment online which I didn't do. So I had to wait about 50 minutes. There was only one or two service windows open. They do have a parking lot which I wasn't aware of and I parked on a meter which wasn't expensive for a Hollywood area. Overall it was a good experience and is a very organized place. read more

I did not believe that this place is actually worth 4.5 stars. I have not seen government offices with such good reviews. I am a believer now. I told my parents about this location, but we stopped by ktown location anyway since that location is closer to us. Ktown location had a huge wait! All the chairs were filled. We decided to take a risk and drive 15 mins to get to this Social Security office location. We were in and out in twenty minutes!!! I hope not too many people find out about this location so I do not have to wait. read more

I got it done. Phew. So, like a space-cadet, I miss placed my SS card and cannot find it for the life of me. This triggered the need to dart to the SS office and get myself a replacement card. Their website is decent and helpful, but I needed further information. I called and got some details on the closest office so I can venture off on my lunch hour. Ventured off, and from Beverly Hills to Hollywood you think, "hey? it's only 5 miles, how long could this take? Google Maps only says 15 mins...No way Jose...it took me a tad over a half over to get to this place. They have a parking lot in the rear but I found a metered spot in front. Walked in. AND WAS IMMEDIATELY REVOLTED BY THE MEPHITIS LINGERING in that place. Holy shizola! I suggest you bring your gas mask in case you have to visit the Hollywood Social Security office. I waited about 30 minutes which was a long time considering I was on my lunch hour, but in retrospect it wasn't that long of a wait. (I asked if I could come back and make an appointment, but they don't take appointments for replacement cards). So I waited... read more

OMG hard to believe a government office could be this friendly and nice! I always have bad experience at dmv and stuff so I assumed it was gonna be like that but totally surprised. The staffs were very helpful and explained step by step. I loved how their environment was cozy and everybody was kinda smiling. Even the security guy who openned the door for us was very nice! First time to give 5 stars at yelp! Haha read more

This was a very pleasant surprise. I'm used to such offices being very slow but this one was not like that at all. They have a parking lot which is great, however, it was already full. But there was plenty of meter parking right next to it, so that worked out fine. I checked in and only had two numbers before me, so I waited for maybe 5-10 minutes. The interview (for a social security card) was a bit slow (and honestly, boring. you just sit there watching them type your information) but everything worked out and I was done in under one hour. I think I also got there at a pretty good time, around 10:30/11 a.m., basically right before lunch break. read more

Ghetto. There is a parking lot baby people go nuts looking fir street parking unaware of the lot. The first thing you'll see are two security guards mostly playing games on their phones and unhelpful. Your bags will hand checked with some dirty ass gloves and you'll be put through a metal detector. I stood in a line that said wait here, finally I asked on the security guards apparently that sign means nothing. Okay. Pretty much it's like the DMV or what I imagine the hades waiting room to look read more

If you can wait...DO NOT MAIL ANYTHING IMPORTANT TO THIS OFFICE. I gave birth at a birth center early this year and to get a SSN for my son you have to mail in a certified ID as the parent along with other essential documents and the application because the office is physically closed due to COVID and only the managers are going in right now. I mailed in everything needed including my passport. They mailed back the documents for my son but not my passport which I assumed they must have still needed for some reason... I was later contacted by a case manager who said my application was incomplete because they never received my official ID... I replied that's not possible I mailed you my passport - I got certified mail and delivery confirmation you received it. NOPE... they apparently got all my documents in the package (because they were mailed together) but say that passport wasn't in there and If I want to complete my sons application I have to mail another ID in. I am freaking out, the caseworker says the manager will look and call me back when they go in the office, no call. I call her back about a dozen times over several weeks, each time, "I asked my manager to look and he'll call you" no call. Apparently a marriage certificate can count, I mail that, they receive it and the application is processed at which point they should mail you back your documents. I just got a letter letting me know that my card is coming and "any documents I submitted are being returned to me with this letter" - but the letter is empty, now they've also got my marriage license? How does one search the dark web for identify theft... because it feels like it's coming?!?!?! What could go wrong when there's literally NO oversight at the Social Security Office and everyone is mailing their documents in and can't go to the location, see a person, find out what happened or follow up. My only recourse is to continue and call this one number I have so the manager can be notified again and he can continue to look for it and call me back... this is crazy making. The manager should call you regardless and... there's NO FREAKING WAY MY PASSPORT WASN'T IN THAT PACKAGE THAT YOU 100% RECEIVED. I've had to file for a stolen passport, I'm now filing a police report and am now paying for a credit monitoring agency. DO NOT, I REPEAT,DO NOT MAIL YOUR IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS IN IF YOU CAN WAIT. read more

4 stars only for if you get there early like before 9 I was there a total of 30 mins. If I had to rate the security guards though this place would get NO stars ! They are two pig headed no patience assholes who don't give you instructions then lose their shit if you can't read their minds. They treat people like they are nothing. I am not a confrontational person and did not say one word to them and yet I still managed to get talked down too. Other than those two this place is a wonderful facility, the actual workers are competent and nice. I don't think I would go back during busy hours. read more

Never thought I'd actually be able to give 5 stars to a government office, but this place deserves it! I went in for a name change and brought in a form I printed at home on their website already filled out. No appointment, in and out in 15 minutes. Upon entering you go through a metal detector and have your bag searches by security. This made me feel so much safer being a female by myself in a waiting area with sketchy junkies. Two automated kiosks for quick and easy checkin. A nice lady helped everyone check in. Why can every other government building be so awesome!? :( PS-just read that the govt struck a deal with Yelp so govt building managers can respond to all the truthful awful reviews they get and actually do something about it. Hopefully in no time we will see the Yelp community singlehandedly making those dreaded visits to government buildings a much nicer experience, just like this SS Office on Vine! read more

A positively Kafkaesque experience. I made an appointment to gather information. I signed up on the machine as the guards at the door advised me. When nearly two hours had passed and I had not been called, I asked the guards again. They advised me to go to an open window. I did. The lady first told me that they did not give appointments for giving information. I insisted that not only had I made the appointment, but I even received a reminder call. She finally located my appointment. She told me to wait again while she got a supervisor. It would only be a few minutes. After 10 minutes with nothing happening, I approached her again asking how progress was. She told me she didn't know what I was talking about and had never seen me before. At that point, I just gave up and decided to find another office. Any suggestions? read more

I provide destination services during international relocations and transfers for Fortune 500 companies so all my clients are high level executives all over Los Angeles County. This being said, I have been to A LOT of social security offices from Pasadena to Inglewood and beyond! This is by far the best facility LA County has to offer. Very clean, organized, with a friendly staff. Even the security guards are super nice. I hope they can pass whatever they are doing to the other offices...especially West LA! read more

Awesome office, took me 15 mins to apply for a new SS card. Friendly staff.

I came in person to change my last name. I showed up about 10 minutes before 9am on a Monday morning and I was finished within 25 minutes. The BEST location!!!! I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. They have a kiosk to check in. I printed my number and was called in shortly after. It helped that I had gone online to fill out and print my form so it would cut down on time. Definitely would come here again if needed. read more

Came in on a Monday around 11:15. I was out by 11:45. Plenty of seating but as noted there were several unsavory characters here who seemed sick/coughing/mentally ill so I just stood in the back. The parking lot was full when I went so I had to find a meter. The man that helped me once I was called was very nice and professional. It was for a lost SS card so nothing too complicated. I'd come back to this location, even despite the clientele. read more

I am shocked by how quick, easy and pleasant this experience was. I was expecting hours out of my day without an appointment for a replacement social security card but instead was in and out within 15 minutes. I came in to change my name on Tuesday around 1pm and I was in and out within 15 minutes! Parking was easy, tons of meters along the building. Today March 23 2016 I had a very bad experience. I was waiting for Hollywood SSA representative for 17 minutes to help me with my SSaccount. She started talking to me at 4:10- 4:15 pm, asked many guestions. I answered all of them. The last question was " How old are you?" and when I answered ''79'', by saing "This is FRAUD, this is not YOU", she stopped talking to me and hung the receiver. I was in shock!!!! read more

When it comes to government agencies I don't expect much. I had just gotten married and needed to change my name on my social security card before I got my new license. I had one day free and I had tons of errands to run: stop by at the social security office, dentist office, dmv, etc. I figured that if I got to the social security office first thing in the morning, I would be fine right? Wrong. I got to the social security office about 20 minutes before they opened and I stood in line outside the door. I had three hours before my next appointment and I figured, being number 25 I would be okay. 2 hours later, I'm still waiting to get called. Finally, at the last possible minute I get called. The people who worked there were very friendly and helpful, but when I went in to get all the paper work the guy told me my new last name was "scary". All I said was "yeah, I guess", got my receipt and left. After waiting 2 hours for what I thought would be a simple thing that took about 10 minutes, I guess I wasn't really in the mood to joke. Overall though, got my new social security card in less than a week, and my name is officially changed! read more

I had a good experience at this place. I went in early in the morning and was out in less than 30 minutes. The man who assisted me was very friendly and listened to what I had to say. The only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars is because of a lady that works there. Once I walked in I heard her calling out numbers. Her tone is so rude and has a bad attitude towards the people. So if you have any questions do not go up to her, because she will just tell you to go sit down. If you go to this place you'll know who she is (she's the only one yelling). But overall, the rest of the employees there are friendly. read more

This was my fourth or fifth visit to the Hollywood Social Security Office. What a treat. I was in and out in 15 maybe 20 minutes and as with other visits, the staff was super nice. My only concern is the kiosk where you must put in your SS number. Although your number choices come up as black dots on a screen it's real easy to see what numbers the person in front of you is picking from the keypad. Just to be on the safe side I covered the keypad with a folder. Be careful. Identity theft starts with our SS numbers. Other than that the Hollywood office on Vine St. is WONDERFUL. read more

If I could give this place a 0, I would! What a NIGHTMARE of a location! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! Not sure how these morons get hired to work for government agencies, but somehow they do. There is no communication between the idiot employees or the lazy, rent a cops that do absolutely nothing but be on their phones. Waited for an 1 1/2 and after my number finally got called, I went to the window and no one was there. I informed the employee in the window next time mine that my number got called and he told me I needed to go back to the lobby and wait because we had obviously missed our number. That is BULLSHIT! After waiting for that long I was closely paying attention so obviously his ridiculous response did not sit well with me. I asked the fat rent a cop with the stash if he could get me a supervisor and he said that he couldn't. So exactly what anyone does there is beyond me, but one thing is for sure, they made me waste my time! THIS PLACE SHOULD CLOSE, THE PEOPLE THERE ARE OF NO USE! read more
