The security officers at the entity are pretty much useless. All they do is direct us to the number 866-964-7592 but when everyone in line tried to call nobody was able to reach a representative since there is a continue beep similar to that of disconnected lines. We told the officers this was happening and he said many of us are calling at the same time but this is not the case with phone companies that get hundreds of calls daily. I ended up finding a number here at Yelp but for all the language barriers and communication limitations at this location, I thought it would he helpful to share my experience so that future visitors do not go through this hassle. read more

Conveniently located along Wilshire & Wilton, it is almost impossible to miss this Social Security Office, I went here just before they open to replace a lost Social Security card, the outside line was pretty long as it gets held up by the security entrance, everyone needs to be screened by the security and metal detectors before you can get in to the building, once you get in, the place is actually pretty spacious with plenty of seats to wait for your number to get called. There are plenty of windows to assist everyone, fortunately when I went, almost all of them were attended by a staffer so we were moving along really quick. The employee who helped me was very nice, after a bit of chit-chat and entering my info in the system, I was on my way back to work--in less than 5 minutes my card replacement application was done! I guess service from day to day vary but for me personally, I didn't mind the short wait outside as things went pretty fast after I got my number, come early then you'll leave happy, come late then you have to wait. Do your self a favor to avoid further annoyance if waiting is not your thing, print out the application or documents you need online and fill it out ahead of time, this will for sure save you some time, you cannot make an online appointment but you could do so by calling and setting up a schedule. read more

No thanks to this office my issue was finally resolved in my favor. I contacted my local congresswoman which initiated a Congressional Inquiry and my case was sent to a central office for review. The manager of this office acted like she was doing me a favor by escalating my case to a central office and she didn't have to do it. However she was very clear that it was not necessary to contact Karen Bass again. If you want rudeness and incompetency this is your office. I made an appointment, submitted my application for a name change and all the paperwork and.... received my card with the same old name in 12 days. **New US Citizen - Updating your social security records Check the operating hours first. They seem to open at 9AM. There is a fairly long line out the door but it moves pretty fast. I parked at 9:05AM, finished everything and left the facility at 9:53AM. Employees - Good They were courteous as to explaining what to do regarding different reasons for visit, out the door. Also handed out the necessary form (SS-5, for my case) and a pencil. Takes about 5 min to complete while in the line. Security guards - N/A I don't really care about them and I had no trouble with them and no one should. Interviewer - Good I can see they can be friendly or not friendly, but just pay attention and answer their questions, finish the session and gtfo, you are done. Takes like 5-10 minutes. Know what to bring with you and to expect. My suggestion is get here by 9AM and you shouldn't have a bad experience. How bad/worse everything gets later on the day - I do not know. read more

Very well located in the corner of Wilshire & Wilton. Not perfect only because the "small" parking lot. I arrived there by 7:30 (thought it open at 8:00) and there was 10 people in the outside line. There were some people that "forced a place in front of the line"(an old japanese lady, despite the protests of many people susteine her position in line) and the security guys let her in the front. Metal detectors delayed the entrance to the building, but once you get in, the place is spacious with plenty of seats to wait for your number to get called. There are plenty of windows to assist everyone. It took no more then 10 minutes to call my number. The guy who helped me was very sympathetic and nice. As I'm brasilian, he talked about soccer, he ask for my documents (which I had all in hands) and after entering my info in the system, in less than another 5 minutes I was out, with a letter saying I'll receive my card in 2 weeks! I went there Monday afternoon around 3 pm. It was really crowded so took more than 1 hour to someone be able to attend me ( and that's why I gave 4 stars). Before going there I've searched the website for the documents that I could be asked for. Prepared everything and brought with me. It was my fist time doing my ssn so I needed to have with me my ***birth certificate****. If you are going to do the same, don't forget yours. Once I was going to a public service I was prepared to be there for a while. If you set your mind to take long time you will be fine. They have a parking spot behind the building. This place is a joke. I had to return here after they made a mistake with a social security reciept they assured me was legitimate. After waiting 2 hours , i approached a window to ask a chubby asian lady if i needed to refill any forms so i could be done faster. It would have taken her less than a minute to help me and being 19, im not very familiar with any of these social security processes. Before i could even get a word out she raises her voice for me to "step away from the window " (in a commanding tone, not even making eye contact with me, which set me off a little). I politely said "miss i just need to ask you a question ". She rudely stated "this is not an inquiry window" . Well which window can i go to if i have questions? I asked. "NONE! STEP AWAY FROM THE WINDOW! !" holy shit . Someone didnt eat her two breakfasts. I insisted "miss i just need you to hear me out for one second" but since my question didnt involve food, she was having none of it. "STEP AWAY I NEED TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT " Alright. Now im in a shitty mood but still thanked her . I sat down and i hear over the speaker "DO NOT APPROACH WINDOWS WITH QUESTIONS. YOU WILL ASK QUESTIONS WHEN YOU ARE CALLED . KOO LEIA CHA TOO HAN SOLO HOH HOH HOH" that last sentence is obviously an exaggeration but this full bodied woman upset me with her poor customer service and social skills. On the other hand there was another asian woman about half of jabbas weight that was extremely polite and patient with everyone. She even managed to smile. He requires birth certificate for age verification, to verify the freaking age.. When i brought my passport and other documents. Another thing they will misplace your paper work. Out of all the offices I have went to this was the only one I have had problems at. And they messed up my disability payments. I will advise anyone to stay away from this office. I wake up everyday struggling in pain and have to show up to this office because of them messing up my paperwork.Happy I'm moving they can't hurt me no more. read more

I haven't been at an SSA office in almost 7 years, I was expecting to be in line for half the day as I did not have an appointment. Very disappointing. Hard to believe it's a SSA center. If i could then i would give this place a negative rating. This one is literally just couple blocks away from my home or else i would definitely go to any other ones. I have been here 3 times and every time they surprised me. First, very limited knowledge. Once i had to talk to three different people, cause someone just needed to call someone else and that someone called someone else for something the very first person should know since its their job. Second, They act like they are above you. For sure they really don't care if you are not satisfied with their answer or need any additional explanation or information or help. If some of these guys were professional and drop some unnecessary attitude, and simply doing their job by actually listening to people what they actually trying to say or ask, then it would be convenient not just for the general public but everybody else in that place. read more

I just spent two hours in this office waiting. I just had to replace my lost social security card. Online application filled out and all the documents I need. You get searched, and checked in, then wait. They give you a number. There are three categories, A, B, and C before your number. The A's were in the mid 400's, the B's were in the high 300's, the C's were at 13. I had C 85. I thought give it an hour. Then give it two hours when my meter expires----I left with the C's in the 20's and the office only took care of about 10 people. (Lot's of people leave). This is the worst office. We were all cramped in there--the place smelled of poopy diapers (people have to bring their kids) and the employees (save the security guards who were cool) seem just plain lazy. I hated every second of it and didn't get a thing accomplished. read more

I had such a bad experience here. The man helping me was really rude. He made me cry so I asked why he was being so rude to me. He said he wasn't being rude and became really defensive.
