It's a small percentage you can bet will fight. Fight or cower. Pay or pay. There are no winners when the flashing lights get behind you, following you as you pull to the side to let them go. As the combatants stand before the judge, it becomes a war of lexicons. Officer linguistics vs civilian jargon. Both have validity, but only one feels comfortable sputtering in the courtroom. Only one knows which words are a bomb and what are a BB. The process is orderly. It goes fast. For once, efficiency in government. At least the judges appreciate the preciousness of time. They are one of the few civil servants whose job is to end beaurocracy. Most of the defendents don't have legal excuses, only sympathetic ones. The bulk of the judged innocent are made so from misplaced paperwork by the officer. Unfortunately, that's not justice, that's a lottery. Only this time education does not benefit. As for my personal experience: by the time my case was heard, there wasn't any audience left in the courtroom. Hardly a performance piece. I was a winner, but what good is it if all you have to celebrate with is a piece of paper?

Because I wasn't able to get documents needed here at our San Antonio office, MS. KORNEGAY promised she would have documents to me in 7-11 days!!! It was pertinent ,time sensitive info needed for my mentally disabled son's AJL hearing. She put me on hold over 25 times because she needed time to look up info, kept saying hold on when I tried to ask something or give her specific info needed. She sounded incompetent or New. How hard is it to look up the following: Copies of notices sent to my son of overpayments, notices to appeal, that they say were denied, refusal for him to file the SSA-362 for hardship, inability to pay, bank name the overpayments went to, Copy of bank they say they garnished $25,000 and now saying he owes $51,000. Just got notice they are garnishing his disability pay in May in the amount of $890 for the next 5 yr, leaving him with just $680 a month to live on. His car was repossessed, he has no assets. He did not get any of the notices from SSA because his roommate had evicted him,withheld his mail and he was living in his car. I was unaware of any of this.He was diagnosed with severe schitsophrenic-Bi-polar disorder in 2008 was diagnosed by a personal pyschiatrist and a SS appointed pyschiatrist!and & is currently 100% worse, on 6 medications. Would ANY one of you employees who have children, family members you would want to be treated in this manner? THE SS SYSTEM does not care, I am 74 ,I've been to our local office 8 times since 2024, waiting hours when the PA system isnt working or screens with the nbr not working & it sickens me that my beloved 48 yr old son is like a zombie. I've never had any truly awful experiences with these cops like the ones over in Jackson Heights but I'll tell you what. I have never had anything but nasty vibes from them. I've been loudly, rudely honked at (a couple of times) and yelled at out of car windows just for crossing the street legally (once). And illegally (once). But like, really. Jaywalking. Okay. And a couple of times when we actually needed some help, they were not so friendly. One time he was texting or something on his cellphone and seemed furious that we'd interrupted him. I actually waited a few seconds until he looked like he was done, but still. Thanks bro. I guess cops aren't happy about being direction-providers, but you could just say you're not sure and be nice about it dude. I'm not even remotely surprised that they have such low ratings. And the way in which these particular cops drive around Flushing as if they're trying to mow down as many mere mortals as possible is pretty sick and not in a good way. Police in America have a lot of issues. The militarisation and disconnection from the community is insane. You would hope that in New York City it was a little different but if the Flushing cops are anything to go by it it's really not. I'm hoping to someday start a proper discourse between the community and the police, as I was part of when I lived in England, but it's very different here. The militarisation of the police makes everything much harder. Massive nationwide reform is needed.

The space is bright, welcoming and decked out with artwork. It's an amazing venue which continuously brings the arts and cultural events to the community. Our neighbor goes here regularly for jazz performances so the events span across all interests and genres. There's parking in the back which is extremely helpful. Speaking of extremely helpful, the staff is extremely friendly, engaged and happy to provide help, support or direction. We'll definitely be back to experience and appreciate all that the Flushing Town Hall has to offer.
