Online, the customer service is DREADFUL. I'm trying to find answers that are not on the website. The chat box online steps you down with a bot that can't answer anything, but when prompted to ask for an agent, you get another screen that requires your pass number...which is on a different screen that causes you to back out of the chat box, so you have to start over with the bot, only to ultimately get a message that the human chat feature is not working today...And is there a phone number on the site? Nope. Google that, wait on hold for 10 minutes. Oh, and if you want to close your account? No can do online, AND you have to remember the answer to your security question. Really? I am a NY e-z pass customer for 3 years if I had a choice, I wouldn't be one. If I can rate E-ZPass at 0 I would. The app suck it doesn't notify you of hidden fees, when you call it's a long wait time, fees are excessively high, difficult to contact anyone, lack of communication, no written statements until you are in judgement, there are numerous departments, and no one can give you a clear response. There is no reason with AI and all the updated technology we have access to they are so far behind. We have been EZ Pass NY customers for years and have never had any issues. Recently, our card was declined (unbeknownst to us), so they removed the card on file without our knowledge. They then charged us $25 revocation fee, $16 per tag fee (total of $57 in fees) and when we called to find out what was happening, the agent told us that they mailed letters to our house to notify us, but they were returned to EZ Pass (unbeknownst to us again). We received no notification at all that our account wasn't in good standing. We asked to speak with a supervisor and Darien (the supervisor) was incredibly rude and explained that it is "customer responsibility" to make sure the account is in good standing. He blamed us through the entire phone call regardless of the errors on EZ Pass's end and refused to help us with anything other than to tell us that they can't do anything except TELL US that WE should be better checking the account going forward. How often do you check every account you have that is on autopay? Working with Darien was absolutely horrible and as a supervisor I cannot believe he adamantly and rudely blamed us for something we had absolutely no knowledge of. I will be switching to NJ EZ Pass going forward so that I NEVER have to work with someone like Darien again. read more

I have been trying to set up an EZPass-NY account and receive transponders for my vehicles since August 20, 2025. EZPass has made multiple errors and has not provided me with electronic access to my account or shipped me transponders. After the first time that transponders were not sent, EZPass said they were resending them. I received a USPS tracking number from EZPass after inquiring a week later about not receiving the second shipment. It indicated that transponders were not sent. Today, EZPass reps told me they do not provide customers with tracking numbers. I have no way to access their online account system because it has been down for a month and their system will not provide me with access. I have been told I need a transponder id# to setup access to their system when my account number is not recognized, but there is no way to verify if this is the case or not. So, I have no way to see my billing information. Today when I spoke to EZPass reps, I was told they were opening an investigation on why my transponders were not mailed and it would be 3-5 business days before that was complete, and then some time after that EZPass would decide how to resolve this. Their customer service department is terrible. I am stuck in this endless loop of not receiving any service from EZPass while I continue to be charged for any tolls at a higher rate than if I was provided with transponders. I believe the NY State Government should find a different vendor to provide tool service, since EZPass is totally incompetent. read more

I've had NJ EZ pass for over 2 decades. Service has hit an all time low. We added a new plate to the account and apparently the system did not take it. I'm now being charged multiple violations for a car that is registered to my account. Trying to get to customer service is impossible. They just DO NOT PICK UP THE PHONE. You can stay on for 1 hr, 2 hrs... and you will NEVER get a person to pick up. This is racketeering at its finest. Does not surprise my because it is Jersey on of the most corrupt states in the nation. They are extorting $ and you have no way to dispute because they just don't answer. The mistake is on them and they ignore you and hold you accountable. It's disgusting that they make millions a day and treat their customers this way. Only service centers are in central and south Jersey so this does not help us who are in north Jersey. Organization needs to be overhauled. read more

Someone stole one of our EZ passes from a car we don't use often. It took about a month to see our bill was going up so I reached out to them. They said the charges were from our device for a vehicle with license plate that wasn't on our account. They said we were responsible anyway. They wouldn't even give us the license plate of the vehicle so we could contact police. Also wouldn't bill them for the fraudulent charge. Typical actions of a bureaucratic Monopoly. read more

I tried to open an account for my son who just purchased a car in August 2024. His plate number was generated in August 2024, but for some reason the license plate was registered with another account... So we called the customer service that was very polite and tried to help, but he couldn't... He asked us to send a fax with the registration of the car. I asked him to send it on email, but he said that they can only accept it by a fax... LOL I told him that fax was used during the 80's and it's quite strange that in 2024, there is no efficient way to submit documents to E-ZPass. So, fortunately my printer has a fax functionality and I found a way to connect it to an IP phone landline. I tried to send the fax, but it didn't go... So I called them again... The woman on the line was NOT polite and didn't really listen to my issue... She kept asking for the account number and kept saying "You listen to me!!!" I tried to explain to her that there is no way to create an E-Zpass account without adding a valid license plate number, but she insisted to get the account number... At that point I said to her PLEASE LISTEN TO WHAT I AM TRYING TO TELL YOU!!!! At that point after explaining that there is no account number without a valid license plate, she told me "Let me talk to my supervisor..." After waiting for 10 min on the line, she came back and told me that their fax machine is broken... LOL And I should try again in couple of days... This is almost 2025, and this company still behaves like we are in 1972... Their website looks like 1995, and is awful to navigate... Their customer service is rude and unknowledgeable... For it's wait time, I have to be honest with 2 stars... However, the guy at the door giving out the waiting tickets was quite helpful and kind enough to let us know this EZPASS is for NY cases and not for NJ issue; which makes our trip in and out, not wasting too much time, I would give one more star for the helpful guy. (Someplace the staffs just don't care, and make you wait, and let the window clerk break the bad news!) Similar to DMV, coming here early side of the day helps a little..not much but it does. Plus the parking lot is always crowded and hard to get a spot. (The waiting line starts from parking lot...) They accept major credit cards. Took an hour on the phone with three representatives. My credit card declined two months prior. They never notified me and my account entered a negative balance of $26 over a statement period. Never got a letter, email or phone call. They added $50 in fees and happily sent a letter in the mail for that though. Meanwhile they disabled my ezpass and my account so I couldn't even log in to see or pay the balance. Phone rep said I could pay the balance and I requested to close the account if they didn't waive the fees. I told the supervisor I'm a nine year customer and always paid my bills. They didn't care but confirmed if I paid the fees I could close the account over the phone. Bait and switched after paying with the same credit card they have on file they said they can't close the account unless I mail them the request. What a joke of a company. read more

NYS Ez Pass system is terrible. My license plate is linked to an account that is in collections that isnt mine and they said there isnt anything they can do. That means anyone can put random license plates on their account and let it go into collections without the people knowing, then those people cant put their license plate on their own account. NYS did away with tolls so EZ pass is the only way to go and they are charging me 3x the amount they should be due to me not being able to put my license plate on my account. I called 6x, you wait on the line for 1+ hrs for someone to answer then never get a reaponse back or you get a tesponse back online that the issue was resolved and it hasnt been. And ezpass told me I needed to call the collections agency to remove my license plate from the collections account but they have no record of my plate. EZ Pass NY needs better customer service!!!!!!!!!! Shout out to Ramish, Ali, and Wendy for NOT being able to do your job!!!! read more

I've called three times in the past two years, and all three experiences have been positive. One big scam, watch your account because they will close it without notification, and they will charge you upwards of $400 to be able to use your plates again AFTER buying a new transponder. I'd give this company NEGATIVE 5 stars. This is the worst company I have ever used. Lets start with the tolls. They are always X'd out or cones in front, therefore making you go through the "cash only" section. When I didn't have the dam ez pass, then the "cash only" was coned off and I had to go through the ez pass lane. A bunch of muppets are running this company!!! and they still charge you fees. Yes they give 1-2 courtesy removals, but still, why do I have to take an hour out of my day and wait for your representative because you guys just can't get it right? The fees are RIDICULOUS. I put $25 on my ez pass account, and since I changed locations/addresses, there was no need to use tolls. Months later, my account is in the negative, yet they are still taking cash out of the account although I have not used it. This company is a scam and pure robbery. Your service sucks! The person I spoke with from here convinced me to get an E-Z pass to remove the late fee and lower initial fees on charges I didn't even know I had (were being sent to wrong address). So I got it, they transferred what I owed, and I paid it. Everything seemed ok. Then, months later, I received a violation fee of $50 because of a $2 toll from 5 months before I was completely unaware of. When I called to ask why that toll wasn't transferred onto my E-Z Pass with the other ones to be paid automatically, I was told it was my fault for not double-checking and that they couldn't help me with the fee because it was already in collections. Then they gave me the wrong number for collections. Then when I called to get the right number, I waited on hold with the collection agency they work with for over an hour on 2 separate occasions and never spoke to anyone. I rented a car and needed to pay the tolls before I returned the rental car in otherwise you will get charged $50 administrative fees (down the road). Every person that answered the phone sounded like a moron and "far away" and refused to speak up. All I wanted to do was to pay the simple charges and was put on hold for about 1/2 hour while I worked from home. Ridiculous system.
