Listen. It's the social security office. Nothing glamorous and you hope you don't need to be there again. I came for changing my last name after marriage and applying for a new social security card. I should've made an appointment ahead of time, but I couldn't figure out how to do so online and no one answered the phone. So I just came on in one day around lunch, took my ticket and waited. It was probably about a 2 to 2.5 hour wait, but I was prepared for it (podcasts, music, work email). Thankfully I had all my forms filled out in advance, so once my name was called it was a super quick process from there. It's a shame the wait is so long for such a short interaction, but alas. There can definitely be some interesting characters in there, but everyone's there for something. I'd recommend doing the preparation and booking an appointment in advance. I think you'll still need to wait, but maybe less time. read more
